700 Series Changes 2014 Standard Specifications

Item 700 - Repair  Removed DMS-9201. The material is no longer being used.  700.3.1. Added 2 paragraphs to describe the finish of the repair under the Standard Repair item to match what was in the Saw-Cut repair section.  700.4.2. Removed statement to dispose of hot mix remaining at end of the day.  700.4.3. Removed statement to dispose of hot mix remaining at end of the day.

Item 712 - Cleaning and Sealing Joints and Cracks (Asphalt )  712.2. Revised material requirement for fine aggregate to include reference Item 340.2.1.3. (Fine Aggregate).  712.4. Added requirement to follow manufacturer’s temperature requirements.  712.4. Added requirement to fill cracks greater than ½ inch with dry sand.

Item 713 – Cleaning and Sealing Joints and Cracks (Concrete Pavement)  New Specification  Previous SS 7435

Item 720 - Repair of Spalling In Concrete Pavement  720.4.1. Added “Protect and re-use existing reinforcing if encountered, unless otherwise directed.”  720.4.2. Added “Apply primer to the repair area in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.”

Item 730 - Roadside Mowing  730.2.5 Added new article about providing a pressure washer to wash equipment.  730.3.3. Added new article requiring pressure washing of equipment when shown on the plans.  730.5. Added “pressure washing” to payment clause.

Item 740 - Graffiti Removal and Anti-Graffiti Coating  Merged special provision 740-001 (Revised 740.2. Materials).  740.3.1.1. Revised specification to clearly separate cleaning concrete vs. metal.  740.3.1.2. Removed Anti Graffiti Coating Type I  740.3.1.2. Added Coating Type II – Solvent Cleanable and Type III – Water Cleanable.  740.5. Added new payment items for “Anti-Graffiti Coating (Permanent-Type II),” and “Anti- Graffiti Coating Permanent- Type III).”

Item 745 Picnic Area Maintenance  Revised Specification Name to remove “Rest Area”  745. Removed all references and requirements specifically for rest areas in “Work Methods”, “Measurement” and “Payment”.

Check cables for proper tensioning when requested and re-tension to within manufacturer recommended range as needed.”  771.4.6. Added “Check and Re-tension Cables. Added, “Rail replacement will be measured by the foot between centers of the first undamaged post on each side of the replacement or to the end of the rail.”  776.5. Item 780 – Concrete Crack Repair  New Specification Name (Old name was Epoxy Injection)  Completely rewritten to reference new “Concrete Repair Manual.”  780.3. Added “Surface Sealing”.

Item 784 - Steel Member Repair  New Specification Name (Old name was Repairing Steel Members)  784.4.3. Revised the name of the reference specification, “Item 780, “Concrete Crack Repair,””
