ALL RIGHTS RESERVED CAMPFIRE CUT This was another timed event intended to test a contestant’s knife and its ability to function effectively as a camp knife. For example, could the contestant use his knife to make kindling for a fire? The challenge here was to produce, in thirty seconds, RIPOSTE a large quantity of splinters from a six inch 2X4. HANGING PLASTIC BOTTLE This extremely difficult test involved severing an empty 16 ounce plastic water THE 2003 BLADE SHOW bottle. The bottle was suspended in mid air by a single upholstery thread. The tricky part was cutting the bottle without breaking the thread in the process! After a long absence and much urging from our loyal customers and fans, we decided to attend the Blade show in Atlanta one more time. Here are some of the ROPE CUT high points and low points from our perspective. The final event of the day required each contestant to predict the total number of free hanging manila ropes he could sever in a single stroke. The difficult part, of course, involved living up to one’s prediction. Failure to cut the predicted number HIGH POINTS... of ropes would result in a no score. Throughout the contest, spectators were entertained and educated by the folksy, down home banter of M.C. Jerry Fisk, who did a fantastic job keeping the event on CUSTOMERS AND FANS course.

  • Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.).

Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999 The Voice of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Governing Board - USA Branch Welcome to the August issue of Tenaga Dalam. A lot has occurred since May issue. Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. Let's say you're out and about in a dress, walking the streets of NYC or getting on the subway. Fits most standard coolers. Heading to the gym? The blade is so sharp that you should warn anyone before you allow them to take a look at it. I'll need to see some follow through before I buy into a bottom here. You also have the option to opt-out of these cookies. These are specifically designed for defensive purposes, but they can definitely do some damage in close-quartered combat with another human. The classic ten eyelet boot, Commando is available on single, double and triple soles. Guaranteed for Life. Day 1. Line drawing of the original pattern of Fairbairn Sykes knife. The blade is constructed of high-strength stainless steel and this particular weapon includes a nylon sheath for safety in transport. Get our 2 Bumper carbon steel padlock. More From Gear. It might not look like much, but the VG blade and G10 handle make this a seriously durable and useful knife. However, it seems to get the job done while standing up to harsh conditions, and the innovations in design are truly unique. The resulting design was influenced by the knives that Fairbairn and Sykes had experimented with in Shanghai, as well as earlier designs produced by Wilkinson.

  • Silat Martial Ritual Initiation in Brunei Darussalam
Southeast Asia: A Multidisciplinary Journal, Vol 14, 2014, pp 1–13 © FASS, UBD Silat martial ritual initiation in Brunei Darussalam Gabriel Facal Institut de recherches Asiatiques (Aix-Marseille Université) Abstract Almost no research has been done on the silat martial ritual initiations developed in Brunei even though silat continues to be a main cultural marker of the sultanate and it is recurrent in legendary narratives as well as in contemporary local film productions. For Bruneian people, the image of silat is also conveyed by the multitude of Malaysian and Indonesian movies they can watch. Therefore the upheavals that silat has endured since the inception of the sport’s federation in the 1980’s have challenged the possibility of local silat groups keeping alive their practice, structure and organization. These evolutions also reflect certain conflicts in the Bruneian cultural policy, as the government seeks to promote a traditional cultural heritage while at the same time transforming its content to match an alternative ideological discourse. Introduction Martial ritual initiations have spread widely across the so-called Malay world (for debate about this notion, see Barnard, 2004), and have been extensively documented. For example, Maryono (2002) describes pencak and silat in Indonesia, De Grave (2001) deals with pencak in Java, Facal (2012) focuses on penceu in Banten, Wilson (2002) analyzes penca in West Java, and Farrer (2012) considers silat in Malaysia. However, there has been less coverage of the situation in Brunei. This discrepancy can be explained by the secrecy surrounding the transmission and integration of the practice in a wide and complex set of transmission frames, based on an authority structure which refers to local cosmology and religious values.

  • Chapter 3 the Classical Weapons of The
Chapter 3 The Classical Weapons of the Art ndonesian martial arts are well known for their huge variation of bladed weapons they Iuse. I will not attempt to list or show all of them but only those that this art uses most often in classical training. We will start with the most commonly seen and used bladed weapon and that of course is the knife or pisau in Indonesian martial context. Everyone in almost every style teaches some sort of knife fighting and knife defenses. One of my biggest complaints is that most of these defenses are almost worthless against a fast, randomly moving assailant. One of my teachers, Pendekar Suryadi Jafri, used to open his knife training at a new school by allowing the most inexperienced student to hold a rubber knife. This student was then instructed to write their name as fast as possible over the face and chest of the most experienced student or teacher there and have this victim use the best knife defense they knew. They always failed because the sad fact is most systems don’t practice knife fighting and they don’t know how to defend against this type of attack. On the other end of the spectrum I have seen some of the Filipino styles demonstrate the most complex and intricate redirections with locks and counters that work just fine at slow to medium speed, or at fast speed when both players are doing the same drill. All of these defenses also fell apart when I saw them applied against the same type of inexperienced student who did not know the drill and so figuratively speaking “sliced and diced” them.
