Ringer Socialisation & Interaction Activities Fun non-ringing team-building activities for a handbell group Permission granted for reprinting by: Malcolm C Wilson, Dunblane www.ringinpraise.org.uk Continued from Part 1 posted May 2010 in ringEr-Notes Introduction Are you looking for a fun activity that has a handbell theme? Perhaps for a short break from regular ringing rehearsals or at a gathering of many ringer groups, or a ringer party. The idea of a handbell group being a team, working together as one unit and every ringer getting to know each other better can be nurtured by activities such as those that follow. Each of the games below can incorporate further interaction as part of the game e.g. by making it part of the game for each ringer to introduce themselves to the others in their team or perhaps to say something about themselves. And the accent is on fun! Many more familiar games can be given a handbell "twist" - have a "brainstorming" session with other ringers once they've seen the games and your imagination is the only limit! Have fun! Looking for more quick and easy ideas for your choir? Check out Tips & Tools each month in Overtones! • August 2012 Newsletter
August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

  • Semper Fidelis FULL SCORE Revised.Mus
2 Semper Fidelis March John Philip Sousa (1854-1932), “The March King” wrote some 136 marches, several operettas, and three novels. His father enlisted him at the age of thirteen in the U.S. Marine Corps as an apprentice to keep him from joining a circus band. Sousa became the conductor of the U.S. Marine Band – “The President’s Own” – from 1880 until 1892. From 1892 until 1931, Sousa toured all over the world with his own band, performing 15,623 concerts. This march, written in 1888, takes its title from the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps: Semper Fidelis – “Always Faithful”. The march was dedicated to the officers and men of the U.S. Marine Corps, and is the official march of that branch of our armed services. The first performance of this march was in the Inaugural Parade for President Benjamin Harrison. Sousa timed the playing of this particular piece so that the “trumpet” theme (beginning in m. 50 on handchimes) would be heard for the first time just as the band marched in front of the reviewing stand where the President, a large part of the House and Senate, members of the diplomatic corps, and many invited guests were seated. Ten extra trumpets joined this theme in unison. It was a very exciting moment followed by a standing ovation from those on the reviewing stand led by President Harrison himself. It is suggested that the handchimes be featured in the performance of this arrangement to “recreate” this historical event. Suggested Handbell/Handchime Assignments: HANDCHIMES: mm.
