Aceptado 04-XI-2014. Abstract: Taxonomy and ecologic biogeography of the irregular Echinoids (Echinoidea: Irregularia) from Mexico. Mexico owns 643 species of echinoderms, almost 10% of the known echinoderm species in the planet. Its geographic location -between the oceanic influences of the Western Central Atlantic and the Eastern Central Pacific- largely explains its enormous biological and ecological diversity. Research on echinoderms in Mexico began in the late nineteenth century; however, there are no reviews on its irregular echinoids. This work reviews the taxonomic and geographic information of irregular echinoids from Mexico, housed in four collections: 1) Colección Nacional de Equinodermos “Ma. MAH Dept. of Invertebrate Zoology, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. 20007 Abstract Two new species of Goniasteridae, Astroceramus eldredgei n. sp. and Apollonaster kelleyi n. sp. are described from the Hawaiian Islands region. Prior to this occurrence, Apollonaster was known only from the North Atlantic. The Goniasteri- dae is the most diverse family of asteroids in the Hawaiian region. Additional in situ observations of several goniasterid species, including A. eldredgei n. sp. are reported. These observations extend documentation of deep-sea corallivory among goniasterid asteroids. New species occurrences presented herein suggested further biogeographic affinities be- tween tropical Pacific and Atlantic goniasterid faunas. Key words: Goniasteridae, Valvatida, deep-sea, Hawaiian Islands, predation Introduction Recent discoveries of new genera and species from deep-sea habitats along with new in situ video observations have provided us with new ecological insight into these poorly understood and formerly inaccessible settings (e.g., Mah et al. 2010, 2014; Mah & Foltz 2014). Hawaiian deep-sea Asteroidea are taxonomically diverse and occur in an active area of oceanographic and biological research (Chave and Malahoff 1998). New data on asteroids in this area presents an opportunity to review and highlight this diverse fauna. -

We have reported previously the occurrence of a novel type of steroidal glycoside, nodososide, (24S)-24-0-E2-0-methyl-ß-D-xylopyranosyl-(1~2)-a-L-arabino-furano- syl)-5a-cholestane-3ß, 5,6ß,8,15a,24-hexol, along with several polyhydroxylated sterols, from the Pacific starfish Protoreaster nodosils L. The Crinoids of Madagascar

ROWE * Abstract. — A collection of crinoids from the vicinity of the Malagasy Republic, held in the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, in Paris, is identified. Three new species are described in the genera Chondrometra, Iridometra and Pentametrocrinus. The nominal species Comissia hartmeyeri A. H. Clark is considered to be conspecific with C. ignota A. H. Clark, and Dichro- metra afra A. H. Clark with D. flagellata (J. Müller). Comments are included on several syste- matic problems which have arisen during the study of this collection. Résumé. — Détermination d'une collection de Crinoïdes de Madagascar, déposée au Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle de Paris. Trois nouvelles espèces sont décrites pour les genres Chon- drometra, Iridometra et Pentametrocrinus. L'espèce Comissia hartmeyeri A. H. Clark est considérée comme synonyme de C. ignota A. H. INTRODUCTION The echinoderm fauna of South Africa and some parts of the Indian Ocean have been well documented, but that of Madagascar and of the African coast north of Mozambique is less well known. The island of Madagascar (the Malagasy Republic) stretches from approximately 12° S to 26° S through tropical to warm-temperate waters. N 15°21.071’; Long. E 073°47.069’) to Kanyakumari (Lat. N 08°06.570’; Long. E 077°18.120’) via Karnataka and Kerala. The underwater visual census to assess the biodiversity was carried out by SCUBA diving. This study reveals 11 new records to Goa, 7 to Karnataka, 5 to Kerala and 7 to the west coast of Tamil Nadu. A total of 15 species representing 12 genera, 10 families, 8 orders and 5 Classes were recorded namely Holothuria atra, H. difficilis, H. leucospilota, Actinopyga mauritiana, Linckia laevigata, Temnopleurus toreumaticus, Salmacis bicolor, Echinothrix diadema, Stomopneustes variolaris, Macrophiothrix nereidina, Tropiometra carinata, Linckia multifora, Fromia milleporella and Ophiocoma scolopendrina. Among these, the last three are new records to the west coast of India. -

Agassiz and Desor, 1846;Echinodermata: Echinoidea) Gobala Krishnan M.1; Radhika Rajasree S.R.2*; Karthih M.G.1; Aranganathan L.1 Received: February 2019 Accepted: May 2019 Abstract Gonads of sea urchin attract consumers due to its high nutritional value than any other seafood delicacies. Aquaculturists are also very keen on developing larval culture methods for large-scale cultivation. The present investigation systematically examined the larval rearing, development, survival and growth rate of Salmacis bicolor fed with various microalgal diets under laboratory condition. Fertilization rate was estimated as 95%. The blastula and gastrula stages attained at 8.25 h and 23.10 h post-fertilization. The 4 - armed pluteus larvae were formed with two well - developed post-oral arms at 44.20 h following post-fertilization. The 8 - armed pluteus attained at 9 days post fertilization. The competent larva with complete rudiment growth was developed on 25th days post - fertilization. Monodiet algal feed - Chaetoceros calcitrans and Dunaliella salina resulted medium (50.6 ± 2.7%) and low survival rate (36.8 ± 1.7%) of S. bicolor larvae. However, combination algal feed – Isochrysis galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans has promoted high survival rate (68.3 ± 2.5%) which was significantly different between the mono and combination diet. From the observations of the study, combination diet could be adopted as an effective feed measure to promote the production of nutritionally valuable roes of S. -

Taiwans irregular sea urchin fauna now comprises 19 valid species in 11 families. New records include Fibularia ovulum Lamarck (Fibulariidae), Astriclypeus manni Verrill (Astriclypeidae), Linopneustes sp. (Palaeopneustidae), Schizaster lacunosus (Linnaeus) (Schizasteridae), Brissus latecarinatus (Leske), and Rhynobrissus pyramidalis A. Agassiz (Brissidae). Species accounts and figures of 14 species collected by the author are presented. Key words: Sea urchins, Irregular urchins, Echinoderms, Taiwan, Taxonomy. Sea urchins may be either regular or irregular. Regular urchins have an almost spherical symmetry. Irregular urchins display varying degrees of bilateral symmetry. They are common macrobenthic organ- isms along the coasts of Taiwan. However, only a few papers dealing with them have been published (Tokunaga 1900, Ohshima 1927, Hayasaka 1948, Peng and Tiao 1971, Chen and Chang 1981, Shigei 1981, Wang 1984) on the ecology and systematics of these animals from the waters of Taiwan. The regu- lar sea urchins from Taiwan have been revised by Chen and Chang (1981). However, there has been no study of the irregular urchins from Taiwan since Hayasaka (1948) except for a new species, Tai- wanaster mai (now Sinaechinocyamus mai), de- scribed by Wang (1984).
