Directed by Peter R. Hunt in 1974. Roger Moore plays Rodney “Rod” Slater, general manager of a South African gold mine, who is instructed by his boss to break through an underground dike into what he is told is a rich seam of gold. The mine-owner’s son-in-law and director plan to destroy the mine so that foreign syndicate members can profit from share-dealing and raise the price of gold on world markets. This will be done by drilling through a deep underground greenstone wall or ‘dyke’ which prevents an adjacent reservoir of water from flooding the mine. When the final breach is made a wall of ocean water roars into interconnected mazes of tunnels and shafts and the mine floods, trapping a thousand workers. Vol.16, no.1 nwahistory.org facebook.com/NorthwestAirlinesHistoryCenter March 2018 REFLECTIONS The Newsletter of the Northwest Airlines History Center Dedicated to preserving the history of a great airline and its people. NORTHWEST AIRLINES 1926-2010 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ THE QUEEN OF THE SKIES Personal Retrospectives by Robert DuBert It's hard to believe that they are gone. Can it be possible that it was 50 years ago this September that this aircraft made its first public appearance? Are we really all so, ahem, elderly that we Photo: True Brand, courtesy Vincent Carrà remember 1968 as if it were yesterday? This plane had its origins in 1964, when Boeing began work on a proposal for the C-5A large military airlifter contract, and after Lockheed won that contest, Boeing considered a commercial passenger version as a means of salvaging the program. Urged on by Pan Am president Juan Trippe, Boeing in 1965 assigned a team headed by Chief Engineer Joe Sutter to design a large new airliner, although Boeing at the time was really more focused on its supersonic transport (SST) program. A launch customer order from Pan Am on April 13, 1966 for twenty five aircraft pushed Sutter's program into high gear, and in a truly herculian effort, Joe Sutter and his Boeing team, dubbed “The Incredibles,” brought the program from inception on paper to the public unveiling of a finished aircraft in the then unheard of time of 29 months. We're talking, of course, about the legendary and incomparable Boeing 747. THE ROLLOUT It was a bright, sunny morning on Monday, Sept.

  • How Inforenz Cracked the Code Leading to Diana Dors' Millions
How Inforenz cracked the code leading to Diana Dors’ millions Submitted by: Palam Communications Monday, 15 September 2003 A 400-year-old code held the secret to star’s hidden fortune for 20 years Free Vigenere Code Cracker software download 15 September 2003 A medieval code that perplexed spies and code breakers for centuries and which was used by Diana Dors to keep secret the whereabouts of her hidden fortune has been cracked by Inforenz, the information forensics specialist. The Inforenz team’s feat was featured in Saturday night’s Channel 4 documentary, Who Got Diana Dors’ Millions?. Free software demonstrating how Inforenz helped unravel the mystery and giving details of the code can now be downloaded from the company’s web site at www.inforenz.com. This week, the Inforenz team will talk about its exploits and explain why concealed data is becoming an increasing issue for modern business at COSAC, the international forum for information security professionals and business managers. Before she died, Diana Dors gave her son, Mark Dawson, a coded message telling him that it held the whereabouts of a hidden £2 million fortune, and that her husband, actor Alan Lake, had the “key” that would unravel the code. But, tragically, just months after Diana Dors died of cancer, Alan Lake committed suicide, taking the secret of how to decipher Mark’s code to his grave. For 21 years Diana Dors’ son Mark had failed in his quest to break the code but, when he discovered Inforenz, the story began to be revealed. “Mark came to us with a tatty scrap of paper with a sequence of letters written in a traditional coded five-character column format,” said Andy Clark, Director of Inforenz.

  • GUNSMOKE TV CAST and DETAILS Premiered
GUNSMOKE TV CAST AND DETAILS Premiered: September 10, 1955, on CBS Rating: TV-PG Premise: This landmark adult Western centered on Marshal Matt Dillon of Dodge City. John Wayne turned down the lead, suggesting James Arness (who remained for its entire run). Originating on radio (with William Conrad as Dillon), it moved to TV in September 1955. Its popularity spawned a number of copycats, but none would enjoy the longevity (and few the consistent quality) of this classic. Airing for 20 years, it's TV's longest running prime-time drama (a record that `Law & Order' is currently chasing).
