How to Write a "Catchy" Song Title by Vince Corozine (ASCAP)
How To Write a "Catchy" Song Title by Vince Corozine (ASCAP) The song title, "You Can't Take That Away From Me" immediately raises the question, "What can't you take away from me?" It drives the reader to want to investigate further and find out what the lyric says. It peaks our interest and arouses one's curiosity. A "catchy" song title will perk the interest of the listener and lead them to want to pursue more information about what the song is about. When selecting a song title one must ask, "What is the song about?" Is it about winning love, losing love, rival love, unrequited love? The topic of the song must be crystal clear in the mind of the songwriter and this central idea must be conveyed to the listener 1. What makes a good title? The title of a song should summarize the essence of the song and should be used in a prominent place in the song, like the first line of "Night and Day," or at the end of each verse as in "New York State of Mind," or at the very end of the song as in "You'll Never Walk Alone." Some of the strongest and best titles contain language that paints a verbal picture or suggests an image in the mind of the listener "A Boy Named Sue," or one that pertains to a color "Blue Suede Shoes." or one that mentions a place "Chicago," or represents a name "Michelle," or suggests a date "April Showers." 2. Can I use a title that already exists? It is fascinating to know that song titles, book titles, movie titles and so on are not copyrightable and therefore can be used freely by anybody without cost or paying royalties. -

“The Stories Behind the Songs”
“The Stories Behind The Songs” John Henderson The Stories Behind The Songs A compilation of “inside stories” behind classic country hits and the artists associated with them John Debbie & John By John Henderson (Arrangement by Debbie Henderson) A fascinating and entertaining look at the life and recording efforts of some of country music’s most talented singers and songwriters 1 Author’s Note My background in country music started before I even reached grade school. I was four years old when my uncle, Jack Henderson, the program director of 50,000 watt KCUL-AM in Fort Worth/Dallas, came to visit my family in 1959. He brought me around one hundred and fifty 45 RPM records from his station (duplicate copies that they no longer needed) and a small record player that played only 45s (not albums). I played those records day and night, completely wore them out. From that point, I wanted to be a disc jockey. But instead of going for the usual “comedic” approach most DJs took, I tried to be more informative by dropping in tidbits of a song’s background, something that always fascinated me. Originally with my “Classic Country Music Stories” site on Facebook (which is still going strong), and now with this book, I can tell the whole story, something that time restraints on radio wouldn’t allow. I began deejaying as a career at the age of sixteen in 1971, most notably at Nashville’s WENO-AM and WKDA- AM, Lakeland, Florida’s WPCV-FM (past winner of the “Radio Station of the Year” award from the Country Music Association), and Springfield, Missouri’s KTTS AM & FM and KWTO-AM, but with syndication and automation which overwhelmed radio some twenty-five years ago, my final DJ position ended in 1992. -
Chris Reynolds: This Is an Interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday
Charlie Harmony Memoir Springfield, Illinois October 9, 2006 Chris Reynolds: This is an interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday. November the 9th, 2006 at Dean Williams Studio in Springfield, Illinois which oddly enough is on Harmony Court. We’re working on an oral history on the Harmony Brother’s musical career. My name is Chris Reynolds; the taping is being done by Dean Williams, and let’s just go ahead and get started here. Charlie, I want to do this in time frames, so the first time frame I want to work on is the pre-1956, before the band got started. But I want to start out with a question that I really failed to ask Ben which was can we talk a little bit about your family? How many brothers and sisters you had and what your mom and dad did and those kinds of things ? Charlie Harmony: Sure, there were eight of us in the family, four boys and four girls. My dad was a coal miner; my mom was a housewife, as was the case in those days. Of course she had eight kids to raise so she had quite a job. They were all like Ben and I, wild and crazy so she really had her work cut out for her. Chris: And you lived in Springfield at that same home over there? Where, near Ben is now? Charlie: Right in front of where Ben’s house was, the house in front of it is the family home. Chris: And the whole time you lived there, so that goes way back? Charlie: Yes, the house was built in 1940, the year that I was born, I was the first child to live in that house, prior to that, behind the house there was a little two room shack and that is where all of my family and the other six kids were born, Ben was born there, I was the only one born in a hospital. -

Mrs Bikbeck's Album
1 MRS BIRKBECK’S ALBUM: THE HAND-WRITTEN AND THE PRINTED IN EARLY NINETEENTH-CENTURY FEMININE CULTURE Patrizia Di Bello, Birkbeck On the 25th December 1826, George Birkbeck, successful doctor, busy lecturer and founder of the London Mechanics’ Institution (now Birkbeck College),1 wrote a long letter to John Britton, antiquary and lecturer on the history of architecture at the Institution. My dear Sir, In consequence of your recommendation of Mr Behnes as an artist, I gave him at some inconvenience a great number of sittings. […] In the course of his visits Mrs Birkbeck spoke of her Album, in which he undertook to induce some of his poetical friends to write and for which purpose he took the book with him […]. Subsequently Mrs Birkbeck has wanted the book, which is of some value especially as containing some contributions from her friends, and has written to him for it without effect. I have also written and received no answer, and we have sent a messenger about half a dozen times in vain, and our only hope of recovering the book rests in your kind interference, as he probably will not run the risk of losing your friendship by such obstinate conduct.2 Mrs Birkbeck recovered her album and carried on working on it into her old age. It is now a rare example of an early-nineteenth-century album to survive intact and with a well-documented provenance.3 Recently rediscovered in the archives of Birkbeck College, and now valuable especially for an unpublished manuscript poem by Mary Shelley, the album has been described as ‘a fascinating insight
