Imperial Recreational Ground and Estuary The Imperial Recreational. Ground is a large field near (Exmouth Town Centre and Train Station) which has. a slip way down onto Exmouth Estuary. When the tide is in, the field is a perfect place to relax and pay some ball with your dog. There is also a child’s play park and parking available. When the tide is out the estuary is a brilliant for having a good run and a swim. If you’re feeling adventurous, chuck on some willies, cross the river at low tide and walk a little further BUT be warned there is some sinking sand areas, and the tide comes in very, very fast so please ensure that you are safe at all times. There are public toilets right next to the field and a water point for washing those feet. The Maer The mear is a wonderful, large open nature reserve that has public acess across the whole area. With a bbq are and fenced childrens play area (it is suitable for days out as well as just a dog walk. It’s dog friendly all year round so very usefull during high season when there is part of the beach closed to dogs Phear Park Phear Park is an awesome park with lots of space to have a plod with your dog or a good run! There is loads of space to run and play. The park is not a secure park but is plenty big enough to allow your dog to roam free. There is a little pond in the park so be aware you may need a towel if you have a dog that loves water! Its child and family friendly with play park, skate park and LED sports facilities as well as free outdoor gym equipment. There is also a cafe situated in the park and public toilets. Just Purr-fect are working with LED at this time to improve their secure dog paddock. Currently there is a paddock secured to 4ft which is FREE to use. Exe trail and estuary - Photographer Gary Holpin With a train station right in the centre of the village, it’s an easy commute back to Exmouth if you don’t fancy walking back. Exmouth – Budleigh cycle track This c ycle track follows the old railway line from Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton. It takes you through some picturesque county side and woodland before getting to the pebble beach town of Budleigh. This is a lovely relaxing walk, away from the main roads and hussell and bussell of life. You will encounter a mixture of people that use the cycle track from dog walkers and owners thought to families and cyclists. As the rout it not a smooth surface the cyclists are not as fast. It’s a perfect place to let your dog off lead and great for families with pushchairs and children on bikes, www.panoramio.com/photo/41330873 Budleigh Beach Budleigh is a beautiful town with some interesting shops, 3 beach cafes and beach huts available. The pebble beach is a stunning walk especially as the sun is setting. The River Otter reaches its mouth at the far end of Budleigh beach with a public footpath leading all the way up the river to Otterton and beyond. Budleigh Beach is NO dogs during the summer but the public path is dogs allowed all year so there is still plenty to do in this lovely town with your dog. www.devonguide.com/beaches/budleigh-salterton-beach.htm River Otter – From Otterton The river from walks from Otterton are absolutely beautiful. You can access the river paths back toward Budliegh or head towards Colaton Raleigh In Otterton there is Otterton Mill which is great for a stop off for some food and drinks and to see the working mill. You can park here and disappear for walk but they do ask for you to be gone on a shorter 30 minute walk if you use their car park. (other parking available in the village for longer walks) There is some parts of the walks that are child/pram friendly (especially towards Budleigh) but towards Colaton there are areas of path that the river has eroded so not always pram friendly. Woodbury Common (Peddled Heaths) There are so many trails and so many routes to take on the Common Land which cover all different terrains that will suit all abilities. Some paths are pram and child friendly others are great for downhill mountain bikes! So find a car park, and explore! There is so much wild life to see. All year round this unique conservation area is used by people from all walks of life. From dog walkers, to families, horse riders and cyclists. There is also cattle and wild horses and ponies kept on some of the land across the year so keep your eyes peeled as you could see some wonderful animals.
