Mœbius explored the spheres of dreams and science fiction and inspired films by George Lucas, Ridley Scott or Hayao Miyazaki with his design of an archaic-looking future. In his stories, utopian architecture and futuristic, mega-metropolitan cities meet desert landscapes and sha- manistic travels through space and time. Mœbius blurs the boundaries between the genres of comic strips and art. With his immense power of imagination, he created a constant flow of surreal worlds with his precisely placed lines. For decades he created iconic figures like the warrior Arzak, Major Grubert or the space travelers Stell and Atan. This sale, once again carried out in partnership with the Daniel Maghen Gallery, will represent a wide selection of comic artists and heroes, of which the highlights will be exhibited during a preview held at Christie’s New York from February 27th until March 4th 2015. Daniel Maghen, auction expert: «The greatest names in comic history will be celebrated, such as the legendary characters of Hergé, Tintin and Captain Haddock, in an exceptional original cover of the Journal de Tintin, estimated between €350,000 and €400,000, as well as Edgar P. Jacobs’ Blake and Mortimer, and Albert Uderzo’s Astérix and Obélix. The «new classics» will also be represented along with Moebius, whose colour cover of the Incal and a page of Arzach will be offered.

It was an upbeat and celebratory forum, a departure from the years when the left met to bemoan its losses. This year, the talk turned to predictions of further advances for socialism and an end to neoliberal policies on the continent. "Now we are in a different moment," said Medardo Gonzalez, host of the event. "We are in position to move to the defeat of neoliberalism and not only to defeat it but to go beyond it and construct a new alternative model in Latin America and the Caribbean." Gonzalez is coordinator general of El Salvador's leftist party Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN).

The most famous of them were the post-spring 1968 Pilote, Charlie Mensuel (debut issue in February 1969), L’Écho des savanes (May 1972), Métal Hurlant (January 1975), and Fluide glacial (May 1975). 02 There appeared simultaneously a handful of more or less short-lived titles— including Zinc (1971-1974), Le Canard sauvage (1973-1974), Mormoil (1974-1975)— whose quick or not-so-quick demises stemmed from insufficiently attractive contents and/or faulty distribution.
