Chapter Two Bizarre Foods White Privilege and the Neocolonial Palate Casey Ryan Kelly [2.0] Whiteness, that invisible and unnamed center from which all others are marked with the category of race, can be best characterized as a space of abundance. From an unmarked position of whiteness flows the private accu- mulation of unearned and often unacknowledged privileges. As Peggy McIn- tosh so aptly observes, white privilege is like an “invisible knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks.” 1 Indeed, whiteness can produce a surplus of material and cultural capital, including the ability to navigate the world with ease, discern- ment, ethos, confidence, and relative comfort without the constraint of skin color. -

KENNEDY AWARDS Excellence in Australian Journalism
KENNEDY AWARDS Excellence in Australian Journalism 10th Anniversary Sponsorship Prospectus DIMITY CLANCEY AND LAURA MANGHAM OF A CURRENT AFFAIR WIN THE 2020 MIKE WILLESEE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING NIGHTLY CURRENT AFFAIRS THE HISTORY OF THE KENNEDY AWARDS NAMED after the trailblazing indigenous journalist Les Kennedy, the Kennedy Awards were initially conceived in 2011 to recognise excellence in New South Wales journalism. Almost immediately the Kennedys were shaped by the nature of the entrants - attracting journalists from the likes of Four Corners, 60 Minutes, The Australian, A Current Affair, 730 Report, SBS and the Financial Review to become a truly independent, national celebration of Australian journalism. The awards were created by journalists for journalists - open to all-comers with no agendas or historical obligation to affiliation. A decade later the Kennedys have become the Australian media's night of nights - celebrated for their inclusiveness, independence, respect for the past and the value of fostering the next generation of the nation's finest journalists. SANDRA SALLY (RIGHT) PRESENTS THE HARRY POTTER AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING TV NEWS REPORTING J U N E 2 0 2 0 . Les Kennedy THE INSPIRATION OF THE KENNEDY AWARDS Les Kennedy was never in the officers' mess of journalism - and nor did he want to be. He loved nothing better than excelling on the road as a leader of other "shoe leather" journalists. Proud of his indigenous heritage, Les' awareness of his past and the pride he took in it were the twin chambers of a big, generous heart. It was his fabled generosity that fuelled a selfless devotion to a long list of protégés. -

Profundity Undeserved?
Profundity Undeserved? By Fearless Young Orphan Remember Me (2010) Directed by Allen Coulter Remember Me received a rating of 28% at rottentomatoes.com. I’m going to make a strange comparison here, between Remember Me and From Here to Eternity. These are both movies with stories that take place prior to monumental catastrophes: 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, respectively. We as the audience know that the horror is coming but the characters do not, and they’re living their lives and dealing with their personal problems while something monstrous looms on the horizon. That’s probably the point, right? Hell, I could be sitting here right now with something monstrous on my horizon. How would I know? Remember Me is not as good a film as From Here to Eternity – oh no, not by a mile—but I respect what it tries to do. I’m just not sure director Coulter and writer Will Fetters chose the best way to do it. The last twenty minutes of the film are powerful, as we watch everyone’s life unspool due to a world-shattering event – imagine how much more powerful they might have been if we have been given some characters who really mattered to us, or a story that didn’t feel like the latest regurgitation of the “serious date movie.” Our main problem is protagonist Tyler (Robert Pattinson) who is a very sulky and angry young man slumming in a crappy apartment while he attends college. We never see him at a real job so we can assume he’s living on his rich parents’ dime. -

His great rep- utation has manifested due to his innovative instruments, such as the fretless guitars with metal finger- boards, or the first memory guitar. Vigier’s instruments are played by a myriad of bands including: Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Simple Minds, Guns and Roses, Oingo Boingo, Stanley Jordan, Lapiro de Mbanga, and Shawn Lane. Patrice Vigier is also the owner of a musical instrument distribution company in Europe. This company distributes to prestigious brands such as Orange Amplifiers, Ernie Ball Strings, Music Man Guitars, and Schecter Guitars. Patrice Vigier learned music theory at a very early age, and is presently involved in a music project called Vigier's Summer Storm. The first CD involves the renowned French musicians: Pascal Mulot on bass, Aurelien Ouzoulias on drums, and the star singer, Renaud Hantson. Along with his own musical career, Renaud Hantson has starred in French rock operas such as Starmania, La Legende de Jimmy, and Notre Dame de Paris. Summer Storm claims to be of the progressive classic rock genre. The ambition of the project is to in- ternationally establish the first classic rock French band. The first CD has already been produced, composed, and arranged by Patrice Vigier, with all lyrics and melodies created by Renaud Hantson.
