Yang - Duan: The effect of artificial illumination on postponing plant phenology - 13289 - THE EFFECT OF ARTIFICIAL ILLUMINATION ON POSTPONING PLANT PHENOLOGY YANG, J.1 – DUAN, R.2* 1Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400030, China (phone: +86-159-0933-4280) 2School of Arts, Chongqing Technology and Business University, Chongqing 400067, China *Corresponding author e-mail:[email protected] ; phone: +86-136-0834-7300 (Received 9th Jun 2019; accepted 28th Aug 2019) Abstract. The phenology of landscape plural can predict the urban environment and guide the development of the city. The aim of the study is to get the relationship between urban environment and plant phenology. The methods monitored the phenology of the environment and garden plants in the main urban area of Chongqing from 2016 to 2019. And it is concluded that artificial light of garden lighting is between 1000 to 4000 Lx in Chongqing, and the application of LED (Light Emitting Diode) is the highest number. At the same time, the flowering period of trees is more susceptible than that of the shrubs; the flowering period of plants is more susceptible than the evergreen plants; and the fruit period of trees is earlier; the flowering period is prolonged. The flowering stage and flowering period of pruning plants are longer than the plants under natural state. This data should prove useful for future research of the subject. Keywords: nightscape lighting, plant phenology, garden plants, environment and phenology Introduction The urban environment has a great impact on plant phenology. Since 1950, the flowering period of urban garden plants has moved 1~3 days ahead in Europe (Menzel, 2002), and from 1902 to 2006, the flowing period for the shrub species in nearly 1/4 of North America also came much earlier (Neil, 2010).

  • Report on the 8Th International Congress on the Jurassic System Shehong of Suining, Sichuan, China, August 2010
Volumina Jurassica, 2010, Viii: 165–170 Report on the 8th International Congress on the Jurassic System Shehong of Suining, Sichuan, China, August 2010 Nicol MORTON1 (Former Chairman of ISJS) In September 2006, towards the end of the 7th Jurassic Congress in Kraków, Poland, we received a passionate invitation from Jingeng SHA on behalf of his scientific colleagues for the 8th Jurassic Congress to be held in Shehong of Suining, Sichuan, China. The invitation also had the enthusiastic support of representatives, who were present, of government at local, provincial and national levels. They promised that the resources for organisation and financial support would not be lacking. At the time some of us wondered if they could possibly be able to fulfil all their promises! In August 2010 they delivered! No expense was spared to make us feel welcome and to enable an excellent and success- ful Congress to be held. Quite clearly the Organising Committee had expended an enormous amount of time and resources on the organisation and a complex set of arrangements. They are to be congratulated for the success of their hard work. Before the Congress there was slight disquiet as to whether the strong governmental input on the organisation might influence the scientific emphasis of the Congress. It did not. The impression was that our hosts were genuinely delighted and honoured by our presence. Of course, it was used to promote tourism in the area, for example several references to the Jurassic Congress in the Air China inflight magazine! On the other hand, this was also superb positive publicity for the Congress and for research on Jurassic stratigraphy and palaeontology.

  • Cities in China: Recipes for Economic Development in the Reform Era/ Edited by Jae Ho Chung
Cities in China ‘well conceived, well structured…with a clearly delineated focus…the methodology is appropriate and ingenious…the articles are data-rich, absorbing, well-researched, and support the editor’s conclusions.’ Dorie Solinger, University of California, Irvine Until now, China’s eye-catching economic performance over the last two decades has only been examined from macro-national and provincial perspectives. However, since post-Mao China’s reform strategy has been predominantly regional in nature, further bringing down the level of analysis is a key to understanding China’s remarkable success. This book, for the first time, focuses on sub-provincial cities as territorially based entrepreneurial agents. More importantly, Cities in China provides the widest coverage in the field of contemporary China studies, by comparing the developmental recipes of fourteen cities in eight provinces. Developmental experiences of these cities are analysed using a frame work of three categories: the ‘given’ endowments of location and history; the administrative arrangements and target policies granted by central and provincial governments; local entrepreneurial leaders and locally generated strategies of reform and ‘opening’. Case studies cover: six ‘deputy provincial’ cities in five provinces (Dalian, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Chengdu); three ‘prefecture’ level cities (Wenzhou, Nantong, Fuzhou); three county level cities (Panyu, Nanhai, Zhangjiagang); and two provincial level cities (Tianjin, Chongqing). This volume, written by contributors from a number of different disciplines, suggests that different combinations of factors have contributed to the relative successes and failures in these cities. Endowment factors, preferential policies, and history have all proved to be important. Most importantly, Cities in China suggests that locally generated strategies of development are crucial determinants.
