EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I am pleased to present this Annual Report for your consideration. The 2011 / 2012 Annual Report is the100th of the Northern Districts Cricket Association Inc. The Centenary of Seasons was celebrated on the 3rd March 2012 at North Ryde RSL Community Club.

I wish to express my thanks on your behalf to Secretary John Crane, Treasurer Craig Menzies, Records Officer Fiona Harrison and Committee Members Andrew Armstrong, Alan Harrison, Ken Tompsett, Scott Martin, Matt Roberts and Paul Stewart for their assistance in running the Senior cricket during the season. Also my thanks to Junior Chairman Greg Berriman, Registrar Craig Menzies, Secretary Homer Paxton, Representative Convenor Philip Azize and the Junior Executive Committee for the running of the Junior Competition. We specially thank Craig Menzies and John Crane for the preparation of the Annual Report and to Greg Berriman of Rydalmere and Dundas United CCs for organising the printing.

31 teams nominated for the senior competition with the Grading Committee settling on 5 grades. First to fourth grades comprised 6 teams each and 5th grade containing 7 sides thus creating a bye.

The Grading Committee again consisted of each Club Secretary or Delegate along with the President / Secretary, Treasurer and Records Officer. It worked well as each Club was able to present how each of their teams were graded which assisted in the discussions of their Grading. Each player was given five (5) provisional matches to enable the Executive Committee to control the grading of the players during the season. We convey our thanks to the Grading Committee for their time and effort in carrying out their duties. Our aim is to continually improve the system of the Grading of teams and players whilst working with MyCricket statistics.

62 Junior teams registered to compete across the 10 Junior grades from Under 16 to Under 9 which was a loss of 5 teams from last season. We convey our thanks to the Junior Committee in running the Junior competitions and the assistance provided from the Clubs. Also we must recognise the efforts by the Junior Committee in organising the qualifications of Junior Umpires amongst their ranks of coaches, managers, parents and players. We hope to see the next step up by these umpires into the Rep games and senior games for more experience out in the middle.

Results entry is now working very smoothly with the electronic recording and all clubs have done a great job adapting to the system. It’s great to have all of the stats and figures easily available to the players and their opponents and we should support the system by entering as much information as possible. We have introduced fines for late and non entries to ensure that people do the right thing and get the entries into the system on time

Availability of grounds continue to keep us on our toes in organising the competitions for both seniors and juniors. This season we lost West Epping turf to synthetic but gained ELS Hall 1 turf for the 1st Grade competition. We played both 1st Grade semis on ELS Hall 1 and 3 with the final on ELS Hall 3. We gained Somerville Oval which was converted from turf to synthetic but lost Cheltenham. Both West Epping and Somerville were playable in late November. Meadowbank 4 and Brush Farm were not available all season for major works. Pidding and Meadowbank 10 were available again after construction works last season. L H Waud at Meadowbank has been levelled and a has been laid and this ground replaces Meadowbank 4 for next season. We have been advised that Marsfield will not be available next season due to works. We continue to have lengthy discussions with Councils to ensure we maintain the grounds usage and upkeep. We sincerely thank the council staff of Hornsby, Parramatta and Ryde for their continued support throughout the season.

We also use grounds in the local schools and we acknowledge their assistance in providing their grounds for our senior and junior competitions. Schools used this season were Marsden High, Epping North, Epping Boys and Carlingford. We must also acknowledge our thanks to the Junior Clubs in organising with Councils and schools for the hire of grounds for the Junior Competitions.

NDCA was represented at the Ryde City Sports Advisory Council Meetings, the Meadowbank Users Group and the Hornsby Shire Council Sports Council Meetings during the season. Parramatta City Council are discussing the issues re a Sports Council Committee in the future.

We again ran a Captain’s night at the start of the season and it was well attended. We explained our Local Rules and there were many questions asked and some understandings were explained and sorted out. The intent is for these explanations to be passed down to all teams and newly elected Captains. It became evident during the season that some of these messages were not passed down the lines and questions were continually being asked of the umpires. We will need to address this issue at the next meeting.

The Keith Hinchcliffe Spirit of Cricket Trophy for First Grade was evaluated by each captain after each game during the season. Points were allocated for dress, conduct, knowledge of rules, sportsmanship and punctuality. Due to the loss of many games due to the rain the points were converted to percentages of games played. The winner was Vikings on 85%, followed by North Ryde RSL 84.7%, Epping YMCA on 82.2%, Rydalmere 79.1%, Carlingford Waratah 75.8% and West 3

Ryde Rovers 72.9%. The Executive Committee will be addressing the definitions for each category and reducing the points allocation in further discussions with the First Grade Clubs.

Our Centenary of Seasons Dinner was held on Saturday 3 March 2012 at North Ryde RSL Auditorium and a Report will follow.

We have started to prepare the cricket statistics from as early as possible, thanks to the Annual Reports kept by our past Patron Keith Shaw going back to the 1930’s, but they don’t go back to the inaugural meeting on 22nd July 1908 held in the Eastwood School of Arts. Therefore is there any information among our readers that you can get from your grandfathers, fathers, uncles or any relatives that may have played for NDCA and they may have some stories, photos or something that can be put into our Centenary of Seasons Report. Photos can be scanned and returned as early as possible. Any information can be sent or picked up by President John Crane, contact (H) 02 9487 1385.

William John (Bill) Coy

1922-2011

Bill was born into a family of cricketers.

His grandfather was a club mate and coach of the famous Australian player William Murdoch and his father, uncles and brother played Electorate (district) cricket for Balmain and Central Cumberland.

Bill played his junior cricket with Strathfield Homebush Congregational CC before moving to Ryde in 1950.

Bill’s first club in NDCA was Epping Methodists in 1948. No doubt a highlight of Bill’s EMCC days was season 1956-57 when Bill took a hat trick against Rovers on the last competition day of the season to help set up an outright victory and secure a place in the semi-finals. The team went on to defeat Tullochs in the final and secure the premiership.

Bill later played for Denistone East Methodist Cricket Club from 1960-61 though to 1969-70 winning a 3rd grade premiership in 1960-61 and 2nd grade premiership in 1962-63.

Bill was a fine medium-fast bowler with a smooth action and run-up. He topped the 3rd grade association bowling averages in 1960-61 with 55 wickers at 8.20 including a hat trick (8/20) against Vesuvian’s on 29/11/1960.

Bill was also a patient but handy middle order batsman.

Bill retired from cricket at the end of season 1969-70 but was coaxed into playing the odd game with his son Geoff at Normanhurst West between 1971 and 1972.

After retiring as a player Bill took up scoring for Normanhurst West CC so he could continue to live his cricket through son’s Geoff & Phil’s eyes.

Bill eventually gave up scoring at the end of season 1994/95 upon the demise of the Normanhurst West club.

Off the field Bill will also be remembered for assisting in the junior coaching clinics for NDCA Saturday morning cricket at Eastwood Oval and Marist Brothers nets and organising teams for boys to participate in. Team names such as NDCA Magpies, Falcons, Valiants, Tornadoes and Penguins spring to mind.

Bill also coached and managed Beecroft C.C. (prior to the club moving to HKDCA) in the Saturday morning junior competition which his son Geoff played under his watchful eye during the 1960’s.

Together with Wes Taylor and Lenny Ward, Bill was also the joint Publicity Officer for the Association between 1962 and 1969.

Bill was elected as a Vice President of the Association during season 1981-82. A position he held until his passing.

Up until six years ago Bill was also a regular attendee at the Associations’ Annual General Meetings.

In a cricketing sense Bill is survived by his grandson’s Jonathan (Epping YMCA) and Ben.

Wet Weather Committee Kel Gray of the Wet Weather Committee ably assisted by President John Crane were kept very busy after the Christmas holidays right through to the Finals. The rain closed the turf in Rounds 11 to 13 and 15 and also the semi-finals at ELS Hall 3 with only 3 hours play on day 2 at ELS Hall 1. Covers were used on the turf wickets for the semis and final but they did not stop the rain running under the covers in the semis after the torrential rain on Friday night. Councils closed all grounds on two occasions in February and March. Decisions of the Committee are made after notice from Councils whether turfs or synthetic wickets were closed and after taking into consideration our duty of care for the safety of all registered players. A special thanks to Kel and John.

Umpires The Umpires Association continually aims to cover a Grade per round with the available umpires, so that each grade would have an umpire at least once or maybe twice per season, enabling the costs to be spread evenly among teams. With the injury to Bob Flint before the season we only had John Crane and Peter Tate stand during the season with Craig Menzies umpiring when 1st Grade turfs were out.

We again provided Umpire John Crane to umpire Oakhill College home 1 day school First XI and Second XI games with the intent that if their turf wicket becomes available during the season we then may be able to hire the ground.

Six of the ten games in the Semi-Finals were covered by umpires, and all five Grades had an umpire in the Finals with thanks to John Crane, Peter Tate, Ajit Madan, Craig Hoskin, Craig Menzies, Dale Arnott, Greg Berriman and Nirmal De Silva.

We continually encourage all players, managers and coaches for Seniors and Juniors to sit for the NSW Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association training and examination course in Basic, Level 1 and Level 2. The Juniors once again are organizing a training and examination Umpire’s course following their success last season. We continually extend an invitation to the Junior Umpires to come and umpire the Senior games to get the on-field experience.

Records Officer Report:

In the 2011/2012 season the Senior Competition had 31 teams (1 less than last season) and about 533 registered senior players from 7 clubs. The break down of the competitions were 1st Grade (6 teams), 2nd Grade (6 teams), 3rd Grade (6 teams), 4th Grade (6 teams) and 5th Grade (7 teams).

The MyCricket website (http://ndca.nsw.cricket.com.au) continued to be a success with teams and Clubs entering their team sheets, results, match scores and scorecards. Last season we introduced new deadlines based on the changing technology and we made a few more adjustments this season. There were a few hiccups with regards to inputting the scorecards following some improvements that were made, the problems occurred if the match scores (mostly overs) where not entered correctly when entering the match results.

Late registrations were again a lot easier to deal with as clubs continued to nominate players that were likely to register for the Grading Committee meeting. It assists the committee when teams are graded as well as reducing the late registrations.

Thank you to Craig Menzies who continued to ensure the teams and clubs that make up the Junior Competition also used the MyCricket website for results and scorecards.

After 14 seasons between the Junior and Senior Competition this was my last season as Records Officer following changes to the NDCA Office Bearer positions. I started back in the 1998/99 season with the Junior Competition where I was the Recorder for 6 seasons and then took on the role of Senior Records Officer in the 2003/04 season. I knew I had been doing this for a while but hadn’t realized that it was actually 14 seasons in total now. Back when I was first involved with the Junior Competition it took days to create the draw and assign grounds and then manually maintaining the point tables each round, constantly hoping you hadn’t put two games at the same ground and calculated the points correctly from the results. Then there were the 60 odd scorebooks I would have lying around the house for weeks while figuring out who had the best statistics to make it into the annual report at the end of each season! How things have changed since I started, first with the Isport website and now with MyCricket, technology has definitely made things a lot easier and less time consuming!

Thank you to all the people who have helped me over the years throughout my involvement with both the Junior and Senior Competitions. I especially would like to thank my parents who have had to put up with a lot of phone calls, emails, cursing and the piles of paperwork over the past 15 years.

Kind Regards,

Fiona Harrison, Senior Records Officer

NORTHERN DISTRICT CRICKET ASSOCIATION Incorporated ABN 30 413 972 119 Treasurer’s Report

My second season as Association Treasurer and financially the Association ends the year in an even stronger position than we started it in. The Association welcomed another new junior club, Balmain and Inner West Tigers and Concord Briars moved all of their older junior teams to join our competition after a successful and enjoyable first season.

For season 2011-12 we have returned a profit of $5,092 which increased the retained surplus to $33,254.

Cash collections from clubs and others amounted to $148,115 with payments totalling $138,128 as disclosed in the Statement of Cash Flows in the Financial Statements.

Fees received from the senior afternoon competition amounted to $40,364 plus $12,514 registration fees being received from senior players. The junior morning competition continues to contribute to the smooth running of the Association with their players paying $27,082 in fees and the representative players contributing $10,765.

Due to the profitable season that we have had we were able to set aside some more funds for the future upgrade and improvement of the grounds and fields that we play on. With a total of $55,000 set aside to assist councils and schools maintain their wickets and grounds to a standard that ensures our players can enjoy the facilities at the grounds. If any clubs have suggestions for grounds that require improvement pass them along to the committee to follow up with the councils and schools.

Ground hire from councils and schools continue to be our major cost at $35,804. This season we were unable to use Pidding Park or Meadowbank 10 due to major ground improvements. From all accounts the work is progressing well and the improved grounds will be ready for round one of the new season.

NSWDCA continued to reimburse Associations for umpires fees incurred in running of the Inter-Association competition. On behalf of NDCA I would thank NSWDCA and Cricket NSW for this gesture which amounted to $2,588.

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FIRST GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers

The 2011/12 NDCA First Grade season marked an important milestone for the Northern Districts Cricket Association, as it celebrated it’s 100th year, an amazing achievement for a sporting body.

All teams were acutely aware of the prestige associated with winning a first grade premiership, something that was even more fiercely sought given the backdrop of it’s centenary season. As in previous seasons, the competition would be contested by 6 teams:

1. Rydalmere Wrens: It is impossible to discuss a first grade premiership without discussing first this dominant wrecking ball of a team, one that prior to the commencement of the season had seen them contest the last 6 premierships on grand final day before finishing premiers on 4 of those occasions. Led by batting all-rounder M. Kennedy this team was all class from 1 to 11 and they knew it. Confident to the point of arrogance, their roster included household names such as S. Holland, B. Papworth, A. Flint and of course, the enigmatic Ricky Palmer.

After a strict ‘Palmer’ quotient was enforced by the NDCA during the off season, limiting the amount of Palmers permitted per team to just one, the Rydalmere club sat down with the 11 Palmer brothers and drew straws, sending Scott into exile whilst retaining Ricky, the best Palmer. Zac and Todd were permitted to continue in the lower grades but others such as Billy and Daniel weren’t so lucky, relegated to the Penrith and Blue Mountains comps.

2. North Ryde RSL: Led by the legendary Kel Gray, who we are led to believe is soon to be inducted into the NDCA Hall of Fame, this team was the amalgamation of not only North Ryde’s finest cricketers, but also those of the now defunct Ranch 1st grade team. Players such as Kosmidis, Burleigh, Gorman and S. Hedger were charged with propelling this team into finals contention, as they had done for years before.

3. Carlingford Waratah: On paper, arguably the best team in the competition, with batting stalwart A. Blanchard holding together the top order and middle order dynamos such as K. Vendrasco and P. Widana-Pitharana waiting to strike, no score seemed unattainable. On top of that, Carlingford’s bowling depth was impressive, with T. Cover, Gunaratne and A. Vendrasco forming a deadly alliance with the new ball.

4. Epping YMCA: Led by T. McMurtry, this team had strike power at the top of the order through their skipper, middle order strength through S. Siva and a powerful opening bowling duo in K. Saunders and RM Yabsley. After threatening for the last couple of seasons without fully realising their potential, many bookies had 2011/12 earmarked as Epping’s year.

5. The Vikings: The flagship of a once strong club, led by V. Coppa, spearheaded by S. Whitehead and topped off with a smattering of Tompsetts, on their day they could beat any team, but some asked whether they may be missing one or two top flight players to really help propel them into premiership contention.

6. The West Ryde Rovers: To the outsider it seemed bemusing that the West Ryde club could put out three almost totally different first grade teams in three seasons. Owing to this, West Ryde were early wooden spoon favourites, despite having won the second grade premiership in 2010/11, yet skipper Matthew David Ashley remained quietly confident he had a few aces up his sleeve in the fight for premiership glory. Names such as M. Egan, J. Neville, C. Ricketts, A. Neville and N. Fairbairn had been waiting for over a decade at their chance on the grandest stage of all and now that they had arrived, they were going to do anything and everything to win.

The first half of the season saw many close matches, decided by a handful of runs or wickets. With all but two matches washed out after Christmas, many teams were left to rue early opportunities missed in the first half of the season. The Rovers, owing to a small set of miracles, which consequently added up to one large miracle, somehow had scavenged their way into pole position. With the semi then washed out, robbing last year’s grand finalists North Ryde and Rydalmere of the chance to contest another GF, all came down to the final match up between the 1st placed WRR and 2nd placed Carlingford Waratah.

The Grand Final, like all matches during the year, was a tight affair, with Captain Ashley winning the toss for the Rovers and throwing his opponents into bat. After accounting for the top order cheaply, the middle order and tail rallied to post a below par, but defendable 130. After a couple of early wickets fell, Anthony Neville, winner of the Provan Summans 17

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FIRST GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers Cont.

Award for Most Popular Player in the NDCA, combined with another Rovers original, Nick Fairbairn to steer the team to victory. When these two fell it was R. Squillacioti and N. Blyth who combined to carry the Rovers home for the club’s first ever 1st grade triumph.

Some individual and team highlights of our rain shortened season included:

 Matthew Egan’s unbeaten 170 to blast the Rovers to victory in Round 1 after Epping had posted a seemingly insurmountable 8/280 on the back of a chanceless 101* from S. Siva.

 Harpreet Singh’s dominant 140 against Epping which helped propel Rydalmere to victory.

 An outright victory by the Rovers over the Waratahs after they had lost first innings. An inspired spell of bowling by Captain T. Cover had seen the Rovers dismissed for an embarrassing 43, Carlingford replied to be 7/75 before declaring with an hour still to play on Day 1. In their second dig WRR were able to grind out 137, setting Carlingford 104 for victory. With just a handful of overs remaining on Day 2 the Rovers knocked over Carlingford’s 10th wicket to seal victory by 32 runs.

 A tight finish in Round 14, which saw Epping sneak home against Rydalmere by 10 runs after setting them a modest 103 for victory. The victory, engineered by GI Boyd’s 5 for 29 kept Epping in finals contention going in to Round 15. Unfortunately for Epping, rain washed out Round 15, robbing them of a last ditch push at the semis.

 J Cowled and B Cowled combining to rescue the Rovers against Rydalmere in their Round 3 One Day Match. At 5/36 then 8/67 batting first, we looked gone, but the elder Cowled displayed a range of shots we did not know existed to propel us to 113 against last year’s premiers, which then due to some brilliant bowling by Daniel Holmes Alone saw the Rovers secure victory by 5 runs.

Though the season was rain affected, the Rovers should be no less proud of what they achieved. It has taken us a long time to traverse the road from 6th grade to 1st grade premiers. It was some 14 seasons ago that as a 13 year old, Nick Fairbairn belted his first Rovers 100 in 6th grade. In that same season, our No.1, Bruce Cowled, became the first Rover in the modern era to score a century with all runs scored between wicketkeeper and point. It was twelve years ago we played our first match together, in September 2000 at Wood Street Oval, when M. Egan smashed 80 on debut and we cruised to victory. Few will forget A. Neville’s 3 consecutive centuries which propelled us to premiership victory in 4th grade or J. Neville’s 31 ball 104 last season at Cox.

These achievements are wonderful individual milestones, but when it really matters it’s not the centuries or 5 the fas that make a team truly successful. Man to man, there were probably more talented sides in the 1st grade competition this season, but if there is anything we all know about sport, it’s that it is not always the most talented side that proves victorious, it’s the one that knows how to win, believes they can and will do anything they can to achieve it. The Rovers’ never say die attitude, along with Matthew Egan and John Neville, proved the difference. Most of this team have known each other since they were 10 years of age or younger, we’ve lost many games of cricket together, been flogged in fact. Often when this has happened it’s been because we threw in the towel when the game got tough. This season we did not do this and in the tight games, the games we should have lost, we found an extra run or wicket that got us home.

Thank you to the other teams in the competition, it has been a thoroughly enjoyable season. No doubt few would have expected a Rovers team to take home the Herb Ward Cup, but hopefully this is a positive result for the competition, breaking up the North Ryde/Rydalmere duopoly that had developed in recent times. We now look forward to the 2012/13 season, Rydalmere will be keen to reassert their dominance and Carlingford, with a young and very talented side will be hoping that they can play to their potential and go all the way. North Ryde have always been strong and their opponents must always play at their best if they are to beat them, nothing will change next season. Epping have a very good team. They were perhaps unlucky to lose in a couple of games this year and unfortunately due to the shortened nature of the season, this proved their undoing. The Vikings have a good team also and their last placed position does not reflect the ability of their individual players. V. Coppa is arguably the best batsman in the comp and few would enjoy facing S. Whitehead’s first few overs.

18

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FIRST GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers cont.

Finally, as always, thank you to Alan and Fiona Harrison, without their assistance and guidance, there would be no senior cricket at West Ryde. We are very proud to have secured the first ever Herb Ward Cup for the club and whilst we can’t promise we’ll ever provide another, we can at least enjoy having won this time around. Rove on.

Chris Fairbairn

SECOND GRADE…..Premiers: Rydalmere Sky Blue

The 2011/2012 NDCA Centenary season was one of the closest 2nd grade competitions in recent years. With last year’s West Ryde Rovers dropping down from 1st grade, a large portion of a new look North Ryde RSL, and Epping YMCA coming up from 3rd grade, they joined an equally competitive Rydalmere Sky Blue and Maroon teams and Carlingford Waratah in a well-balanced 2nd grade competition.

The points table come the end of the regular season confirmed this, with the bottom 4 teams all vying for the final 2 semi- final positions. If not for bad weather washing out the final round, the makeup of the final 4 teams could’ve been much different.

One thing that was beyond doubt was the dominance of the Minor Premiers; North Ryde RSL. After 15 rounds, they were undefeated, drawing just 4 games. With players like T Newton-McGee averaging nearly 50 with the bat and better than 13 with the ball it was little wonder. Add to that the stubborn bowling of D Buttrey and A Thomas along with the lusty hitting of B Lincoln and N Coles along with the other all-rounder; N Yule, they made up a team who wouldn’t take long to rack up a win against you.

There were many other talented players throughout the grade.

Epping YMCA had, in my opinion, the best bowling attack in the grade. Lead by J Waugh, whose action resembles that more of a McGrath than a Waugh, he bowled 88 overs for just 11 wickets but in that bowled 39 maidens at an economy rate of just 1.4. Without a doubt, the guy bowling at the other end has James to thank for many of his wickets brought on by tight bowling at his end.

Rydalmere Maroon must be wondering what happened to their season. On paper they had a team good enough to win the competition, but a slow start to the season along with an unsettled playing roster cost these guys. They were a much more talented team than what their results showed.

Enter G Dharmadasa for Carlingford Waratahs. His figures of 41-19-4-75 against Rydalmere Sky Blue in Round 7 were amazing considering a total of 82 overs were bowled in that innings. But his best all-round performance came in round 3 against Rydalmere Maroon, where he scored 105* and followed it up with 5-75 with the ball. Lead by their wily captain Greg Wark, they were no easy beats.

West Ryde Rovers inflicted one of only 2 defeats to Rydalmere Sky Blue. Each time you played them, you would never be sure if they had a full team and those players that did turn up were different each time we played. In saying that, they were a team who were good enough to beat any opponent on their day. Round 8 against Rydalmere Sky Blue was proof of that.

THE SENIOR COMPETITION SECOND GRADE…..Premiers: Rydalmere Sky Blue cont.

At the end of the regular season the 2nd grade points table was as follows:

Finals

With results in the Semi Finals affected by rain, it was left to the two top teams to contest the Grand Final. Fortunately there were clear skies both days so a full 2 days were available to determine the best team in the division.

It was a toss both captains wanted to win and with the coin falling North Ryde RSLs way, it was a simple decision to make Rydalmere Sky Blue bat first. The objective was simple; bowl them out cheap and chase the runs.

Bowl them out cheap they would, rolling Sky Blue for just 82 with T Kelly making up more than half the runs. His opening partner and 2nd grade leading run scorer M Andrich had a rare failure. So with patience, T Kelly batted his way through the team and was the final wicket to fall. Confidence was still high in the Sky Blue camp though, and with a nasty half an hour session before stumps on the first day, early wickets were crucial.

The Wrens set themselves a goal of taking two wickets before stumps, so to have the Minor Premiers 2/0 just before was the perfect start. Moving into day 2, North Ryde continued to struggle stumbling to 4/9 before 9/48 to eventually be bowled out for 61. S Fegan, an often under rated bowler, but defiantly a big game bowler, again stepped up and had match figures of 13-4-5-13. The majority of these overs were from his non-preferred end bowling outswingers against the cross-breeze.

A second innings was on the cards so it came as no surprise when Sky Blue were asked to bat again. Chasing the seemingly impossible, North Ryde conceded 13 overs in, right on the stroke of tea.

Given this is just my first season as captain, I found the job was made incredibly difficult by the quality of opposition we played. There were no easy beats, and each team had their strengths and weaknesses. Thank you to all teams for making it an enjoyable and competitive season, and I enjoy locking horns with you all again next summer.

Finally, thank you to NDCA President and Secretary John Crane and his executive committee. Running a successful team is hard enough, running a successful association is another thing all together. It is largely a thankless job, so on behalf of NDCA 2nd Grade I wish to express my thanks to you all.

I’m looking forward to another successful season in 2012/13

THIRD GRADE…..Premiers: Rydalmere Maroon

The 2011/12 season was an extremely enjoyable and successful season and, even though there was a lot of rain around this summer, some good cricket was still played. This season was competitive and the games were played in the right spirit.

Third grade had a 6 team format consisting of Rydalmere Maroon, Rydalmere Sky Blue, North Ryde RSL, Vikings, Carlingford Waratahs and Meadowbank.

The whole season saw Rydalmere Maroon keep the first place ranking and at the end of the season Rydalmere Maroon took out the Minor Premiership, keeping the top of the ladder spot all season long.

 There were some great performances throughout the year with 3 centuries scored and sixteen 5 wickets hauls and two 10 wicket hauls taken.

 Both Matthew Waygood from North Ryde RSL and Menaka Sirisena from Rydalmere Maroon picked up 10 wickets in a match this season and they must be recognised for this great achievement.

21

THE SENIOR COMPETITION THIRD GRADE…..Premiers: Rydalmere Maroon cont.

 Brad Worland was the stand out batsman in the competition compiling 534 runs at an average of 59.33 and making 2 centuries.

 The standout player from the season on any team was Kanchanna Attanayake from Rydalmere Maroon, who scored 194 runs, took 5 catches and claimed 33 wickets. A great all-round effort!

 Menaka Sirisena (Rydalmere Maroon) picked up 26 wickets during the season and led all bowlers in average (9.00) and strike rate (18.12) to go along with two 5 wicket hauls and one 10 wicket haul. Menaka was the standout bowler in the competition.

 Anirudh "Woody" Venkat (Rydalmere Maroon Captain) took 11 catches and a run out to lead all dismals for a non-wicket-keeper.

 Aditya Gollakotta (Rydalmere Maroon) with 20 dismissals led all wicket keepers.

At the end of round 15, semi-final berths were decided and the ladder looked like this:

WKT RUNS WKTS RUNS Rank Team P W2 W1 D L1 L2 Points Quotient LOST FOR TAKEN AGST

1 Rydalmere Maroon 15 1 6 7 1 0 91 2646 106 1353 61 2.2780

Finals

The Semi-Finals this year were rain affected matches. North Ryde and Meadowbank did not even take the field in their match meaning that North Ryde RSL got through by default. In the other Semi-Final there was a local Derby between the two Rydalmere teams. The first day was a complete washout. On day 2 Rydalmere Maroon sent Rydalmere Sky Blue into bat. Sky Blue made 7/111 declared and gave themselves about 3 hours to bowl out Rydalmere Maroon. Rydalmere Maroon achieved 3/126 and went through to the final on the back of a brilliant 71 from Lalendra Wijesekera.

Grand Final Rydalmere Maroon vs. North Ryde RSL

Rydalmere won on first innings: the game was called off with Rydalmere requiring 11 to win outright. The match results were:

North Ryde -95 all out- Nevin Ahluwalia 5/12

Rydalmere Maroon- 134 all out-Kanchanna Attanayake 46

North Ryde RSL- 50 all out- Menaka Sirisena 5/26

Rydalmere Maroon’s 3rd grade side, starting as Minor Premiers, would always have a tough time against the arch rivals North Ryde, with some dangerous and experienced players in Moise, Worland, Martin and Waygood.

22

THE SENIOR COMPETITION THIRD GRADE…..Premiers: Rydalmere Maroon cont.

Bowling first, the Wrens got off to a steady start until Nevin Ahluwalia bowled a great spell to take 5 wickets from the

North Ryde RSL’s middle order. Nevin was ably supported by Kanchanna Attanayake who picked up a bag of 4 wickets to roll North Ryde RSL for 95. The Wrens ended up at 3 for 58 at stumps.

Day 2 saw the Wrens roll on to pass the score 4 wickets down, and eventually rolled for 140. Kanchanna Attanayake (46) and Lawrence Thomson (Nightwatchman) battled for 12 overs together on day 2 to get the Wrens very close to the score. The remaining batsmen took the score well beyond the North Ryde total.

North Ryde had one last dig and went for quick-fire runs to set a total. Unfortunately their luck ran out in the form of Menaka Sirisena who bowled superbly for 5 wickets and showed why he is the premier bowler in the competition. NRRSL were rolled for 50 in the second dig.

It was a terrific hard fought season. Rydalmere Maroon came out deserved victors after a very consistent season. I would like to thank all teams for an enjoyable and competitive season that was played in the right spirit.

Thanks also go to John Crane and the NDCA Executive for once again putting on an excellent competition.

FOURTH GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers Blue

The 2011 / 2012 season was a special season; it was the NDCA’s 100th Season! For the centenary season the 4th Grade Competition was made up of 6 teams from 5 clubs – Carlingford Waratah, Epping YMCA, North Ryde RSL, Rydalmere, West Ryde Rovers Blue and West Ryde Rovers White.

It was a close competition with the ladder changing numerous times throughout the season. The West Ryde Rovers White team finished the season as Minor Premiers, 11 points clear. The eventual premiers however were the other Rovers team, West Ryde Rovers Blue.

THE SENIOR COMPETITION INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:

There were a number of impressive individual performances this season, some of those include –

8 Centuries scored by the following 7 players:

FOURTH GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers Blue cont.

 Dave Wiggins (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 157no and 106  Alistair Rhodes (West Ryde Rovers White) 110no  Puneeth Gopal (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 102  Joshua Steward (Carlingford Waratah) 101  Anthony Grey (Carlingford Waratah) 100  Stephen Davis (Rydalmere) 100no  Ross Gordon (North Ryde RSL) 100no

3 of these centuries were actually scored in a very high scoring match in Round 4 between West Ryde Rovers Blue and North Ryde RSL (the eventual grand finalists). North Ryde RSL declared early on the second days play after allowing Ross Gordon reach his century with an impressive total of 5 for 276. West Ryde Rovers Blue chased the runs down also with the loss of 5 wickets and Dave Wiggins scoring 157no and Puneeth Gopal 102 (the two of them put on a third wicket partnership of 244 runs).

5 Wickets in an Innings were taken by the following players, 6 of which took 5 wickets on two occasions:

 Andrew Tenni (Epping YMCA) 7 for 51 and 5 for 38  Solomon James (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 6 for 13 and 5 for 35  Patrick Small (West Ryde Rovers White) 6 for 15 and 5 for 31  Arun Ramakrishnan (Rydalmere) 6 for 45 and 5 for 37  Justin Hutchinson (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 5 for 3 and 5 for 46  Divij Mehra (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 5 for 12  Maria Harrison (North Ryde RSL) 5 for 15 and 5 for 30  Nathan Skrivanic (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 5 for 17  Joshua Steward (Carlingford Waratah) 5 for 19  David Solomons (Carlingford Waratah) 5 for 23  Ranga Ratnalingam (West Ryde Rovers Blue) 5 for 24  Alistair Rhodes (West Ryde Rovers White) 5 for 25  Issac Boesel (West Ryde Rovers White) 5 for 25  Adam Dwyer (Carlingford Waratah) 5 for 32  Jason Reay (North Ryde RSL) 5 for 49  Mark Besanvalle (Carlingford Waratah) 5 for 59

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FOURTH GRADE…..Premiers: West Ryde Rovers Blue cont.

SEMI FINALS:

There was no play on the first days play after days of rain, on the Sunday the sun was out and both games got underway.

West Ryde Rovers White 10/116 defeated by North Ryde RSL 5/117

North Ryde RSL won the toss and sent West Ryde Rovers White into bat first. The West Ryde Rovers White innings started out okay but in the end were all out for 116; unfortunately only 16 runs were scored off the bat by the last 6 batsman. North Ryde RSL then had their work cut out for them, having to chase down a modest total in limited time, they got the runs just in time with the loss of 5 wickets. The West Ryde Rovers White team had their chances, but as they say ‘catches win matches’, depending on who you ask they dropped anywhere from 4 to 8 catches during the North Ryde RSL innings.

The top performances from North Ryde RSL were Captain Maria Harrison taking 5 for 15 and George Scapellato 40no. From West Ryde Rovers White it was Patrick Small taking 4 for 44.

West Ryde Rovers 4/103 drew with Rydalmere 6/158 (dec)

Rydalmere tried their hardest on the Saturday afternoon to make the pitch and run ups playable that day, unfortunately for them their efforts were all in vain as the rain started up again. West Ryde Rovers Blue won the toss and sent Rydalmere into bat, much to the Rovers team relief. Rydalmere knew that they had to score runs quickly, declare and make sure to leave enough time to try and get West Ryde Rovers Blue out since they had to win in order to go through to the Grand Final, a draw being enough for the higher placed Rovers team. Rydalmere declared 6 for 158 at 3.10pm, leaving just over 2 and ½ hours to try and get West Ryde Rovers Blue out. Play finished at 6.05pm with West Ryde Rovers Blue on 4/77 off 40 overs and through to the Grand Final, I think that was the slowest I have seen the Rovers team bat before.

The top performances from West Ryde Rovers Blue were Captain Justin Hutchinson 2 for 36, Divij Mehra 2 for 27 and Puneeth Gopal 42. From Rydalmere it was Amish Bhagat 63no and Michael Davis 32.

GRAND FINAL:

West Ryde Rovers Blue 3/145 defeated North Ryde RSL 61

The Grand Final at least was not affected by rain. It was a good start for West Ryde Rovers Blue as again they won the toss in the finals and were able to send North Ryde RSL into bat first. West Ryde Rovers Blue bowled North Ryde RSL out for 61 runs before 4.30pm. Rovers were able to reach the total before the end of play on Day 1, it is definitely a good feeling having that 1st innings result at the end of the first days play. On the second days play the first drinks break was after about 1 hour and 15 minutes play, the North Ryde RSL captain Maria made her way over to the Rovers captain Justin and congratulated him on winning the Grand Final, they had conceded that there was no point in further play as they wouldn’t be able get an outright result.

The top performances from West Ryde Rovers Blue were Puneeth Gopal 3 for 13 and 61no, 13 year old Rohan Gopal 2 for 5, Ranga Ratnalingam 2 for 12 and Captain Justin Hutchinson 32.

Congratulations and thank you to all the teams and players on a well fought and enjoyable season.

Also congratulations to NDCA on a successful Centenary season!

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FIFTH GRADE…..Premiers: Vikings

5th Grade this season was an enjoyable one and each game was played competitively. There were a number of familiar faces playing again this season and what was also pleasing to see were the amount of juniors most teams had playing in the afternoon comp. We hope this continues on in future years and we should be encouraging our Juniors to play afternoon comp. Rest assured they can more than hold their own and their youthfulness in the field leaves us oldies in awe. Some of the best batting and bowling in the Semi Finals and Grand Final was from the junior players .

The competition was made up of 7 teams from the following clubs:-

Club Captain

North Ryde RSL (Minor Premiers & Grand Finalists) Geoff Cordner

Vikings (Premiers) Paul Kilby

The season got underway and round 1 saw what would be a preview of the grand final, us V’s North Ryde. North Ryde won by 1 wicket chasing 245 in a very close game.

North Ryde went through the regular season undefeated to claim the minor premiership. As the season progressed mini battles developed for the other semi final spots. Vikings and Rydalmere Mo’s were battling for 2nd and 3rd spot. An outright win for us against West Ryde in round 13 eventually saw us grab 2nd spot. In the other battle for 4th spot between Rydalmere Maroon and Epping YMCA Red it came down to the last round. Rydalmere Maroon had the bye and had to wait anxiously on Epping’s game. A washout in the last round unfortunately didn’t help Epping’s cause and Rydalmere Maroons grabbed 4th spot.

Rain did have an impact on a number of games during the season. Rounds 6, 12 & 14 were all affected. Rain would also have a bearing on the Semi’s.

Semi Finals

North Ryde (1) V’s Rydalmere Maroons (4)

The first semi final was played between North Ryde and Rydalmere Maroons at North Ryde RSL. They had played each other twice during the season, the first game in round 6 was a draw due to the weather and North Ryde won the 2nd game in round 13.

27

THE SENIOR COMPETITION FIFTH GRADE…..Premiers: Vikings cont.

The weather also played its part in this game with no play on the first day. Rydalmere won the toss and sent North Ryde in. North Ryde appeared to be in trouble at 5/59 however Geoff Cordner 36 and Josh Condon 12 helped North Ryde to a total of 110, however more importantly North Ryde soaked up 62 overs. This still gave Rydalmere Maroons a sniff though the equation was 111 to win off about 12 overs. To Rydalmere’s credit they came out swinging, however it wasn’t to be. They finished on 9/66 with Michael Goodhue taking 5/22 and Andrew Ferguson taking 4/33. North Ryde was now through to the Grand Final.

Vikings (2) V Rydalmere Mo’s (3)

In the other semi we played Rydalmere Mo’s at Curtis Oval. We had played each other twice during the season, the first game was a draw with Ari for us scoring 135. The other game was won by the Mo’s in a one dayer with Steve Raven scoring 40 No. for them to see them home.

As it was in the other semi, the first day in our game was also washed out. We came back again the next day and The Mo’s skipper Aaron won the toss and sent us in. Our plan was to take advantage of our batting depth and bat out the day. Vik (46) and CK (18 No.) did a great job for us putting on a 68 run partnership for the 2nd wicket and more importantly off about 50 overs !.

Anthony Azize came in and played his shots scoring 22 No. We were 3/115 and into the last hour when both captains agreed to call it a day. We were through to the Grand final!.

I would also like to acknowledge Greg Berriman from The Mo’s kind gesture of Welcoming Pete Honeywood to the crease when he came out to bat in his last game for the Vikings.

Grand Final

North Ryde (1) V Vikings (2)

The Grand final was played at Meadowbank 10 and it was great to finally have 2 days of sunshine!.

We had played each other twice during the season, the first game in round 1 was won by North Ryde by 1 wicket in a thriller. Geoff Cordner scored a century for them and Vik scored 96 for us. The 2nd game was not so close and North Ryde won that game after we had a batting collapse.

I won the toss and sent North Ryde in. North Ryde was Minor Premiers and up until this game were also undefeated.

We got off to a dream start, North Ryde were 1/3 which soon became 4/13. Barry Whitehead was bowling a fantastic spell and soon had 4 quick wickets to his name. He was being well supported by Reardo (Greg Reardon) and Rob Kordish at the other end. Some great catches were also being taken and none better than Anthony Azize’s efforts for 2 catches at 2nd slip. Anthony Azize then bagged a couple of wickets and we then had them 7/48, however North Ryde did make a spirited fight back. Their last wicket partnership put on 56 runs between Geoff Cordner (69 No.) and Marlon Randeniya (12). They were all out for 143 and fittingly Baz took the last wicket to claim his 5th wicket. It was also a very warm day and we were getting tired, so we were very relieved to get the last wicket.

At stumps we were 0/6 and importantly hadn’t lost a wicket. Both teams would have felt confident going into the 2nd day.

The next day was very slow going as North Ryde were bowling very well and we had all day to get the runs. At one stage we were 3/25 after Josh Condon took his 2nd wicket, however we still had plenty of batters to come and Vik Craig was out there batting very patiently. Grand Finals are won when key players put their hands up. Baz (Barry Whitehead) started it for us the day before with the ball. Anthony Azize (77 No.) and Vikram Craig (39 No.) then did it with the bat for us by putting on an unbroken 121 run partnership to see us home. It was fitting that both players were out in the middle when the winning runs were hit – which was into the last hour of play and by that stage there was quite a large crowd that had gathered as all the other Grand Finals had finished by then and a number of them decided to come down to see the finish of our game along with family and friends that were already there from both teams.

I would like to congratulate North Ryde on their performance in the Grand Final and also on their fantastic season. I would also like to acknowledge all the other captains and their players in 5th grade on what was a very enjoyable season with some great cricket played along the way. Thanks also to the NDCA committee for another job well done in all the work you do behind the scenes to ensure we get to play our cricket each week.

THE JUNIOR COMPETITION ANNUAL REPORT

The 2011/2012 Season was a milestone season as it was the 100th season of organized cricket for the NDCA. It was celebrated with a gala evening on Saturday 3rd March at the North Ryde RSL, which was well attended by both present and past players.

The MC was Gavin Robertson who played his entire junior cricket for Dundas United and went on to have a successful International career for Australia.

Other special guest and speakers included

 Alyssa Healy played juniors for Carlingford Waratahs  Mitchell Starc played juniors for Berala Sports  David Gilbert played juniors for Marist Brothers Eastwood  Wayne Seabrook played juniors for Dundas United

It was a great evening for all who attended, a special thanks to all the people who made the evening a great success especially John Crane who put many hours into the evening, without his drive and determination this important milestone could well have been just another season.

This season had many highlights for me I will list just some below.

. Sponsorship of $4,000 from the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club. This money helps every junior cricketer in the NDJCA and we encourage all players and their families to support the club whenever possible. . A new found professional attitude to rep cricket. With more players trying out than ever before , the coaches putting in so much of their time free of charge and finally the players and their parents who all represented the NDJCA with great pride and talent. A special thanks to Phillip Azize for his tireless work as rep convener well done Phillip. . A committee of delegates from each club who are working on rule changes that will ensure maximum participation for each player in the NDJCA as well as catering for the needs of the elite players . Also how we can increase participation in junior cricket how do we attract kids to want to play this great game. This season we had 13 clubs and 764 players from u/9s to u/16s we want at least a 10% increase for next season. . Working with Inner West Harbour to maximize the benefit for both associations in combining age groups and swapping of ideas for the continued improvement of junior cricket.

In closing I would just like to thank everyone who helped to make the 100th season the success it was, and well done to all the premiership winning teams, who knows maybe next season there will be no rain on Finals weekend, let’s hope so.

ROUND 1 v Sutherland at Tonkin Oval

Toss was won by ND's and we sent Sutherland into bat to try and snag a few early wickets while the deck was still a little juicy, We were off to a good start having them 2/17 after 6 overs and 3/44 after 10. A few dropped catch, a missed stumping and a missed run out that should have been taken with both batsmen at one end set the tone for what would be a character revealing season. Sutherland went to put 370 on the board all out with H. Siddiqui and Adi snagging the century makers. At 2/4 Connor Rae and Adi put on a 35 run partnership before the next wicket fell and we ND's ending the first innings at all out 96. A gusty effort as ND's dug deep defended well nearly seeing out the day and the follow on. Second innings dig saw ND open up and play more shots with C. Rae notching up 42 runs in a 58 run partnership with S. Loyld, forcing a second innings draw at 5/83 at the end of the days play.

WICKET TAKERS L. Johnson 4-67 off 12, H. Siddiqui 2-37 off 12, M. Brooks 2-64 off 9, D. Walsh and Adi 1 each

RUNS C. Rae 19 and 42, Adid 21 and DNB, S. Lloyd 13 and 20 no

CATCHES T. Collins 2, Rae, Bolt, Brooks, Josh 1

ROUND 2 v Penrith at ELS Hall 3

Penrith won the toss and went into bat. A few chances were put down early putting us in a tough position chasing 9/372, with Walsh snagging the first wicket and H. Siddiqui snagging the century maker two weeks running. ND's innnigs was off to a great start with H.Siddiqui and A. Vileti putting on 69 runs before Adi got snagged leading to a small collapse before L. Johnson and T. Collins chirped in adding another 35 for ND's to end up all out for 175 in the 56th over.

A more focused batting approach saw ND's play with a patience well beyond the years.

WICKET TAKERS H. Siddiqui 4-52 off 12, D. Walsh 2-54 off 10, L. Johnson 2-70 off 10, M. Brooks 1-45 off 4

RUNS L. Johnson 43, H.Siddiqui 37, A. Voleti 29

CATCHES Sid 4, Bolt, Veitch, Brooks, Johnson 1

ROUND 3 Bye

ROUND 4 v Manly at Manly

What a great oval and deck to play on. Damp conditions to start with but a sandy deck helped the batsmen and punished bowlers. Manly won and elected to bat and at 3/17 after 5 overs ND's were well and truly on top of things with Walsh and Rae leading the attack. A few missed chances, similar per round one vs Sutherland, saw manly run away with it using a pinch hitter down the order to slog getting dropped at least 6 times in the process of making his ton with M. Brooks snagging him in the end and T. Collins picking up the other century maker. Taking the middle ND's dug deep and saw out the day till it was nearly dusk all out for 151, but a very slow over rate from manly only getting thru 42,limited our chances to make runs, a progressive score had Manly at 180.

41

WICKETS C.Rae 2/45 off 7, T. Collins 2/52 off 7, S. Lloyd 1/33 off 10, Walsh, Hammy and Brooks 1 each

RUNS S. Lloyd 29, C. Rae 22, S. Veitch 20

CATCHES J. Bolt 4, S. Llloyd 1

ROUND 5 v Newcastle at ELS Hall 3

Newcastle won the toss and went into bat and were met with some tight quick bowling from Walsh and Rae. A few chances went down early but when Walsh got the break thru at 1/24 after 10 things were looking up. More missed chances another 2 missed run outs saw Newcastle steadily build to be 3/321 after 60 overs with Brooks snagging both century makers. ND's innings started with 2/11 after 6 bringing C.Rae and Pravin to put on a gutsy 65 run partnership before rain interrupted at the tea break and the games was called.

WICKETS M. Brooks 2/74 off 11, D. Walsh 1/41 off 9

RUNS C. Rae 66, S. Lloyd 16, Praveen 13

CATCHES J. Camroux 1, Praveen 1

Round 1 – Loss on 1st innings; NDCA 170 defeated by Sutherland 7/171 Round 2 – Won on 1st innings; NDCA 6/100 defeated Blacktown 99 Round 3 – Loss on 1st innings; NDCA 174 defeated by Canterbury West 177 Round 4 – Loss on 1st innings; NDCA 119 defeated by Hornsby Kuring-gai & Hills 8/218 Round 5 – Loss on 1st innings; NDCA 7/132 defeated by South Eastern 2/166

This season was a season of missed opportunities. The team rallied and fought really hard to get into good positions to win games, however we lacked that last piece of execution to grab the victory.

In our first game the boys posted 170 and had Sutherland 7/152 with some momentum behind us, only to see the match slip away with a couple of dropped catches at crucial times.

This was followed up with a gutsy win against Blacktown. After knocking over Blacktown for just 99 the boys found themselves 5/18 and deep trouble, however Angus McCowage, Ben Kyriazis and Adrian Craig dug their way out of trouble with some sensible batting and knocked of the runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

The third game against Canterbury was the toughest loss of the season. We knocked over Canterbury West’s for just 177 with the quicks doing the damage, however at 5/166 the wheels fell off and the team lost 5/8 to lose by 3 runs.

In our final two games, despite fighting hard the boys were outplayed by two very strong associations in Hornsby Kuringai & Hills & South Eastern, on both occasions we were bowled out for under 150 and unable to sustain pressure to knock over our opposition cheaply.

There were several standout performances throughout the season both individually and as a team. From a team perspective our 4 front line quicks of Jai, James, Rudy & Michael bowled as a pack to put a lot of pressure on the opposition in the first 20 over’s. This was a real area of development from last year and under the guidance of coach Paul Sullivan the quicks showed excellent control and patience this season.

Another fantastic team effort was the enthusiasm and energy in the field. There wasn’t one game we weren’t louder than the opposition in the field, always encouraging the bowlers and letting the opposition batsmen know we were in the field as a tight unit.

Some of the excellent individual performances include Jai Ivelja’s two half centuries. After a tough Moore shield with the bat Jai was able to show what he was capable against some very good bowling attacks.

Also of note was a fine 61 by Matt McCormick against a very good Canterbury West attack in hot conditions. Matt went on to top the batting averages with 125 runs at 25.

Captained by Ben Manenti all the players put in plenty of effort at both training and games. This was evident in plenty of excellent performances at one time or another by all players and despite being a disappointing season results wise the development shown by the team should give the players plenty of confidence within themselves.

Well, so ends another season of representative cricket and the team has improved yet again across the season but we still cannot manage that elusive third win of the season.

Our bowlers lead the way this season with outstanding performances across the board.

Matthew came back into the side after a couple of years and showed great potential of things to come with graceful stroke play and incredible concentration and patience. He was also a massive boost in the field saving countless runs and applying pressure to opposition batsmen.

Axel had a slow start to the season with the bat but finished the season off nicely with 83* vs Hawkesbury and 79* vs Penrith. Axel was rewarded for his efforts this year with selection into the Emerging Blues side for the second year running. As a captain he faced a new challenge this season of working with an effective spinner and setting appropriate fields.

Cameron continued his love affair with Manly with match figures of 10 overs 7 maidens 5 for 6. He also took 3/ 24 against Penrith and finished the season with an admirable average of 6.5 and an outstanding economy rate of 1.9.

Michael experienced his first season of representative cricket this year and improved as the season progressed with the highlight being a lovely knock of 40 vs Hawkesbury with shots to all parts of the ground. His understanding with fellow opener Cameron also grew with each innings.

Rohan saw how much fun it was to bowl against Manly and collected season best figures of 3 / 22 and backed that up with 0 / 19 off 8 overs against Hawkesbury.

44

Julian went from strength to strength as our first change bowler strangling the run rate, conceding a miserly 2.8 runs per over. With a bit more luck at finding the edge Julian’s would have had the wickets he deserved.

Patrick continued to take the responsibility of bowling overs at the death and restricted scoring when sides could easily have gotten away from us. Not happy with just performing with the ball, Patrick also assisted fellow bowlers by taking some amazing slip catches with great reflexes and safe hands.

Angelo opened the bowling for us and applied the pressure to opposition batsmen from ball one. He took early wickets or prevented the batsmen from scoring with his best performance coming against Hawkesbury in the first innings with figures of 3 / 12 off 8 overs.

Patrick in his first season was not able to show his full potential as a talented middle order batsman as when the opportunity arose to stride to the middle the opposition was in control of the match.

Michael, another of our talented middle order batsman with little opportunity to shine. He was again a standout wicketkeeper out shining all rival glovemen. Michael took catches in every game finishing with 7 catches and 2 stumpings (which I think he thoroughly enjoyed).

Angus stepped up to representative cricket for the first time this season as a middle order batsman, talented spin bowler and excellent fielder. It was a pleasure to watch Angus in the field and see him grow as a spin bowler as he developed his skills both with the ball and setting his field, the hardest part of spin bowling.

William was another victim of the middle order who was not afforded the opportunity to shine in the centre. William showcased his all round talents with an economical spell of bowling against Hawkesbury in the second innings and excellent ground fielding in all parts of the field.

It was once again a pleasure to coach a group of talented and dedicated group of young men and I look forward to the challenges of next season when the team takes the next big step in the cricketing development when we start playing on turf.

Finally, I would like to extend a big thank you to the parents for their assistance throughout the year for all of the behind the scenes work that makes cricket games possible. Without the scorers, assistance in setting up the ground for home matches, umpiring in the trial matches, throwing balls to batsmen prior, assistance with the training drills and of course the afternoon tea the game would not be what it is.

Thanks for a great season

Craig Menzies

Round 1 v Camden at Cox Park

Our first game was at home against a strong Camden side. Our team was confident with the addition of 5 new players to the squad. Anthony Adlam won the toss and elected to bat. Camden’s opening bowler was quick but Nick Ford and Supan Kannan batted aggressively and put together a fine opening stand of 68. Supan was dismissed for 18 and Nick was dismissed for a hard hitting 58. Anthony continued the run scoring and was joined by Josh Stern who made a well compiled 20. Late wickets fell until Anthony and Jack Parkinson combined to put on 25 in the last three overs to give us a competitive score of 8-173. Anthony finished on 42 not out and Jack 15 not out.

Tarun Mahajan took the new ball and struck early. He bowled with pace and accuracy and wickets fell. Anthony, Nick Eynaud and Lachlan Carfax all kept the pressure on and, combined with a great run out by Jack Parkinson, had Camden 6-60 at tea. After the break NDs maintained the pressure and bowled Camden out for 146. Tarun finished with 3-27 and Anthony 4-25. A great win first up!

Round 2 v Bankstown at Bankstown

A tough game away against a very good side. Anthony Adlam won the toss and elected to bat. After losing early wickets Lachlan Carfax and Anthony put on a solid partnership of 64 batting through to the first drinks break. However in attempting to lift the run rate we lost wickets and from 2-79 finished with 9-119. Anthony top scored with 47 and Lachlan made 22.

Tarun Mahajan and Navjot Singh opened the bowling with Tarun striking early. However a missed chance next ball led to a long partnership by the Bankstown batsmen and we did not take another wicket until after the tea break. Bankstown passed our score two wickets down.

Round 3 v Sutherland at Cox Park

We were drawn to play last year’s undefeated premiers Sutherland on our home ground. Sutherland won the toss and chose to bat. Our continued focus on bowling and fielding at training paid dividends. Tarun Mahajan took the new ball and struck straight away. At the other end Navjoy Singh clean bowled the leading Cawsey Shield batsman for one. Sutherland realized it was game on! Tarun struck again and, with Anthony Adlam and Nick Eynaud coming on, wickets continued to fall. Nick Eynaud neatly removed the stumps of Sutherland’s big hitter, Lachlan Carfax ran out their number 5, and Tim De La Hoyde took a great slips catch. Sutherland with 7 Emerging Blues players in their side were 8-38. The pressure was maintained right to the end with Sutherland dismissed for 74, their lowest score ever. Tarun finished with 2-17 from 10 overs, Navjot 1-8 from 7 overs, Anthony 2-10 from 9 overs, Nick 1-20 from 10 overs and Lachlan 2-6 from 8 overs. A great bowling and fielding performance.

The run chase was always going to be difficult but our openers started confidently and boundaries came. However their bowling line up was strong. Wickets fell. Some great individual efforts by Nick Eynaud with 18, Tim De La Hoyde (11) and Daniel Maittlen (9 not out) were nearly enough to get us home but we fell 5 runs short. A disappointing end to a dramatic days cricket.

Round 4 v Blacktown at Cox Park

Anthony Adlam won the toss and elected to bat in good conditions. Our openers, Nick Ford and Supan Kannan once again looked good early but failed to go on. Anthony and Lachlan Carfax combined for a solid 77 run partnership but we failed to take all our opportunities and settled for 5-151. A good total but probably short by 15 runs. Anthony top scored with an excellent innings of 62 well supported by Lachlan with 36.

From the start our opening bowlers Tarun Mahajan and Navjot Singh attacked the stumps but our fielders missed easy chances. At tea Blacktown were 1-75 and the game was in the balance. After tea the game meandered along with neither side taking the initiative.

One over to go and Blacktown needed 2 runs to win. An edge through slips was an appropriate way for the game to end. Lachlan Carfax was the best of our bowlers with 2-25 and probably should have been brought on to bowl earlier. This game was a real missed opportunity.

Round 5 v Hawkesbury at Hawkesbury

Our last game was away against Hawkesbury at Kurrajong. A great ground in a lovely part of the world. We lost the toss and bowled first. The boys showed their class from the first over and put the pressure on immediately. Navjot Singh struck early. Nick Eynaud and Anthony bowled great spells at first change with Nick sending the stumps flying. Daniel Maittlen bowled his best spell all year and took two crucial wickets well supported by Lachlan Carfax from the other end. Six difficult catches were all taken and Hawkesbury were bowled out for 69. A great team effort. Nick was best with 3-16 off 10 overs closely followed by, Lachlan with 3-16 off 7 overs and Daniel 2-12 off 7 overs.

Jack Parkinson and Tim De La Hoyde opened the batting and looked good from the first ball. An excellent partnership of 35 followed before Jack was out for 18. Tim continued to dominate the bowlers before unluckily being given out for 19.Nick Ford then blasted a quick 15 and the Hawkesbury score was passed two wickets down. A comprehensive and well deserved victory by a very good cricket team.

The final Under 13s analysis was two wins and three losses. However the fact that this side was competitive in EVERY game, combined with a vast improvement in the boy’s performance over the 5 weeks, indicates a very successful reps season. The team followed the reps season up with a successful trip to the Western NSW Cricket Carnival in Orange, winning three games from four. A great effort.

I would like to thank our manager Russell Maittlen and assistant coach Kevin Eynaud for their support and enthusiasm over the course of the season. Also the support of all the parents in hosting games at Cox Park and ensuring the boys were well presented and punctual at both training and on game days was fantastic. The attitude of the boys, their application at Friday training and on Sundays, and their willingness to learn was a credit to them. I look forward to being part of our effort to make the finals in the Under 14s next year.

UNDER 12 - CAWSEY SHIELD

This seasons U12’s Cawsey Shield team was represented by Baxter Holt (captain), Yash Mankad, Andrew Milne and Will Kent from Carlingford Waratah, James Hirsch, Harrison Kilby and Jayden Brown from Dundas United, Brayden Dilley (Vice Captain) and Thomas Steele from Epping District, Jamie McLeod from Concord, Cullen Hathurusinghe from Epping YMCA and Max Laurie from Oakhill. Our 2 reserve players were Charlie Skuce from West Ryde Rovers and Connor Salmon from Epping District. The coaches were Harshendu Mankad and Paul Kilby and the Manager was Phil McLeod.

Once the team was selected the boys all trained very hard and were excited for the rep season ahead. Our first game was a trial against Parramatta at Max Ruddock reserve. Baxter won the toss and elected to bat first. We scored 112 and retired 5 batsman along the way. Top scorers were Baxter 36 (retired), Brayden 23 (retired) and James H 19 (retired). Parramatta could only manage 75 runs with Harrison taking 5/13 and Will 2/12.

Our 2nd trial match was against Hawksbury at Pitt Town. Baxter again won the toss (which was to be the last toss he won) and again we batted first and scored 6/119. Our run scorers were Brayden 30, James H 18, Harrison 16 no & Andrew 15 no. Hawkesbury were at one stage 1/86 and appeared cruising to a comfortable win until our boys made a spirited fight back to then have Hawksbury 7/104. However they snuck home in the last over of the match. Pick of the bowlers were Cullen 2/13 and Jayden 2/13.

The first game of the rep season was a “Road Trip” to Newcastle. They won the toss and batted first scoring 5/155. Will took 2/20 and Baxter took a great outfield catch to dismiss their dangerous left handed opener.

Our turn to bat and whilst it was a large score to chase, our boys put in a great effort scoring 119 against a well drilled bowling and fielding team. Jayden top scored with a hard hitting 20 coming in at no. 7, Jamie scored 19 and was out in the middle for 37 overs and James H scored 12. Whilst we lost the match our boys had improved over the last 3 matches in all departments.

49

Under 12 – CAWSEY SHIELD cont.

Our 2nd match was against a very strong North Shore team at home – who went on to make the final. North Shore won the toss and batted first. We keep things tight early by having them 1/18 off 14 overs however the heat and some good batting saw them reach 174. Will took 2/16. We made 95 with Baxter top scoring with 27 and was out in the middle for over 2 hours & Jayden scored 13.

Canterbury were our opponents for our 3rd game at Beaman. They won the toss and amased 168. Our boys did their best in the heat. Baxter took 2/17. As soon as it was our turn to bat the sun went away, the temperature dropped and was ideal conditions for them to bowl and field. We got off to quick start in our run chase with Brayden and Jamie running well between the wickets, however a few quick wickets saw us 3/29. Baxter (51) and James H (30) then got us back into the match with a century partnership. Jayden and Harrison both did some big hitting towards the end, however we fell just short by 9 runs in what was a very courageous run chase. I won’t dwell on the controversial run out decision towards the end of our innings when we were on a roll.

The boys continued to improve each game and we went into our 4th game against Hawkesbury at home full of confidence. Poor Baxter lost the toss and Hawkesbury batted first scoring 135 runs. Our boys did well again in the heat with Baxter taking 3/18, Yash bowled very well taking 3/23 and Thomas took 1/9. We got off to a great start with the bat to be 0/40 at one stage with Brayden (31) and Jamie (18) batting very well together. Even at 2/72 chasing 135 we seemed in control. Along came the afternoon tea break and we lost our way to be all out for 109. Cullen 13, Baxter 11 and Andrew 11.It was a game for the taking and we didn’t take it. The boys (and coaches) were disappointed after the game.

Our final game of the rep season was a cross over game against Bankstown at Padstow Park on a very humid day. Lost the toss again and Bankstown batted first and at one stage were 1/80 with plenty of overs to go. Our boys made a great fight back to dismiss them for 113 in the heat. Will took 4/26 which included 3 wickets in his 4th over, Yash took 2/15 off 9 overs, Jayden took 2/15 and Andrew bowled a tidy spell with his first 3 overs being maidens. Our fielding was also our best performance of the rep season with 7 catches taken (6 of those in the outfield), Baxter took 4 catches, Jayden 2 and James 1. Jamie make a nice stumping and Max assisted with a sharp run out. The boys were full of confidence at the break. Our run chase started badly with 2 wickets in the first over. Unfortunately we never recovered and were all out for 67. James H top scored with 18.

It was a pleasure to be involved as co-coach of this team. The boys always trained hard, listened and were well mannered. They went into every game with confidence and improved with each game and never gave up.

Special thanks to Harshendu our other co-coach and also Phil McLeod our team manager who gave us great assistance.

Hi everyone, my name is Terry Rogers, the coach of the U11 rep team.

The team was selected with 14 players, with which we trained as a squad. We had two trail games, one against Parramatta with them posting 201 runs for 5 down. Our innings started well with a wicket first ball by Jarred Edwards. Was happy with the team preferment, needed to improved on fielding, also players not in there right positions. needed some adjustments. Also top score for us Liam 23 and Harry 22, Tom retired on 15. Second trail against Hawkesbury all out for 115 Naba 3-11-10, Gerard Brooks 3-26-8. Cameron taking two very good catches at mid wicket. Naba 35 runs, Henry 22 runs, Jarred 39 runs opener. Bowling attack worked and batting line up also, coach was happy with a win.

First official game of the rep season against St George. We lost the toss and were sent in. After 50 overs 90 runs, Henry 34 runs, Harry 15 runs, Cameron 11 runs opening. Not enough runs on the board, their bowling attack was very good. The boys did well to bat there overs out. We had an early wicket, then nearly another one!!!! . But not the case St Geoge 1-91 after 23 overs. Our team very sloppy in the field that day.

Second game against Parramatta, we knew we were up for a hard game. Parramatta 6-213 off 50 overs, just too many runs to chase. We had two run outs, Matt and Ryan with direct hits. Ryan also taking 2-36-8, Naba 2-17-10 including 4 maidens. Henry 35 runs, Naba 21 runs and Lachlan 11 not out. Failing to bat out the 50 overs was disappointing for me. 52

UNDER 11 – CREAK SHIELD cont.

Third game against Canterbury, won the toss elected to bat on a new pitch, not the coaches instructions. All out for 113 runs of 41.2 overs. We were in trouble already not batting the overs out. Thomas was one of the only batsman’s to do well with 27 runs not out having no real support from his team mates. Lachlan bowling figures 1-17-4. Canterbury 1/116 after 29 overs. We were unable to find a way to take some wickets.

Fourth game against Inner West Harbour , we batted first our best batting preferment this season 7/162 after 50 overs, Jared 27 runs opening. Alex was first drop, holding up an end for sometime. Henry 45 runs, Naba 24 runs and Harry chipping in with 12 runs. Our boys thought they had done the hard work already. Not so when their opening batsman chase down the runs. One lad got 111 not out 17 fours and 2 sixers. Inner West Harbour 0/163 of 34 overs.

Fifth game against Camden, this game I else expected to be competed, NOT TO BE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!! Not batting our overs out again, all out for 74 runs off 24 overs. Changed one of the openers to Thomas 28 runs, Henry also scoring some runs again with 21. Three ducks didn’t help us. Camden was going for the outright. Dec 2/143 of 18 overs, we held them off 1/23 of 18 overs, very happy no outright. I think looking back now, some of the boys were a bit over the rep season.

I would like to thank all parents for bringing the boys to training and the games. Big thank you to Marie Edwards, who made my job so much easier, great Manager. Lovely afternoon tea from our team too. Also to the players, seeing is believing, the standard of players out there is mind blowing!!! I hope we all enjoyed and learnt from this season. Because I did.

Regards Terry Rogers

NORTHERN DISTRICT CRICKET ASSOCIATION JUNIORS

UNDER 13 REPRESENTATIVE TOURING TEAM

WESTERN NSW CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP JANUARY 2012

The squad for the Western NSW Cricket Championships in Orange was as follows:

Anthony Adlam (C) Dundas United Nicholas Ford (VC) Ryde Hunters Hill

Jeffrey Burt Concord Briars Supan Kannan Carlingford Waratah

Daniel Maittlen North Ryde RSLYC Tim De La Hoyde Oakhill College Junior

Baxter Holt Carlingford Waratah Lachlan Carfax Epping District

Brayden Dilley Epping District Jack Parkinson Epping District

Joshua Stern Epping District Brendan Ford (12th Man) Ryde Hunters Hill

Game 1 v Mitchell at Orange

Our first game was against the strong local rep side, Mitchell, past winners of the tournament. Mitchell draw players from Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow, Mudgee and the Blue Mountains so we expected a tough game. However our team was confident after a good rep season. Anthony Adlam won the toss and elected to bat. As expected their opening bowlers were quick but Nick Ford and Supan Kannan both played aggressively and put the fielding side under pressure early. Nick dominated all their bowlers and in the 17th over the 100 partnership was reached. Both players continued to force the pace until Nick was caught for hard hitting 62 and Supan caught for a solid 28. Lachlan Carfax was joined at the crease by Anthony and together they played shots to all parts of the ground. A great partnership ensued and the 200 mark was reached in the 34 th over. Both boys passed their 50 and kept going. With the partnership on 197 Anthony reached his hundred and both batsmen retired. Lachlan finished with a stylish 79 and Anthony 106. Josh Stern and Jeff Burt then came in and scored quick runs in the last 4 overs to take our total to 330. A terrific batting effort.

The new ball was taken by Jack Parkinson and Baxter Holt. They both attacked the stumps and swung the ball late. The first wicket was a run out by Jack. Supan was brought on and struck in his second over. Jeff Burt kept the ball up, bowled a great line and was rewarded with a wicket in his fifth over. After 25 overs Mitchell were 4-77 and struggling against our attack. Josh Stern kept the pressure on and was rewarded with two quick wickets. From there the game was ours. Daniel Maittlen flighted the ball well and took two late wickets. Mitchell finished on 8-144 after their 50 overs. Daniel finished with 2 for 18 off 5 overs, Josh 2 for 20 off 6 overs and Jeff one for 8 off 5 overs. A convincing win first up.

Game 2 v Illawarra at Molong

We travelled to Molong for our second game against last years’ champions Illawarra. This game would decide who from our pool would get through to the final. We lost the toss and were sent in on a difficult turf wicket. Their opening bowlers attacked the top of off stump with a great display of accurate fast bowling. Scoring was difficult with a very slow outfield and after 8 overs we were 3 for 3. Illawarra maintained the pressure and after 18 overs we were 7 -11. Brayden Dilley, solid at number 5, was joined by Anthony Adlam at the crease and together they put together one of the gutsiest partnerships I have seen. Both players were patient, committed in defence, and attacked when they could. The 70 meter boundary was unreachable so everything had to be

54

run. They were able to get the score to 45 before Brayden was dismissed for 11 hard fought runs. Lachlan Carfax added further runs at the end with some great shots and we finished all out for 66. Anthony top scored with 28, a great captain's knock.

We needed to bowl well early to be any chance but accuracy was lacking. Illawarra were patient knowing they had 50 overs to score the runs. Aided by some unusual umpiring calls of wide they were able to pass our score in the 25th over for the loss of two wickets. Baxter Holt was the best of our bowlers with 1-6 off 4 overs. A tough game in tough conditions. However the boys were still in good spirits with two games remaining in the week.

Game 3 v ACT at Orange

This game would be real test given that ACT had beaten us in the Cawsey Shield in 2010. Anthony won the toss and elected to bat on a good turf wicket. However after 11 overs we were 3 for 15 and under pressure. Baxter Holt batting at 3 was solid and kept the scoreboard ticking over. He was able to get our score to 80 before being run out for a well made 20. Anthony Adlam added 19 not out at the end and we finished all out for 109. A competitive score but 30 runs short of our target.

Taking wickets would be critical with only 109 on the board. From the start Jack Parkinson was on target with the new ball taking two wickets in his second over. Baxter Holt from the other end attacked the stumps at pace and slowly these two strangled ACT out of the game. Anthony and Jeff Burt maintained the pressure and after 17 overs ACT were 4 – 18. Lachlan Carfax bowled like he had been playing on turf all his life and took wickets immediately. After 29 overs ACT were 7-37 and struggling. Josh Stern continued the great bowling effort, finishing with 1-1 off 4 overs. With the score on 62 Lachlan sent the sumps flying and the game was won. A huge reversal of our previous encounter with the ACT in 2010. Lachlan was the best of our bowlers with 3-7 of 6 overs, followed by Jack 3-10 of 6 overs, Anthony 2-4 off 4 overs, Jeff 1-5 off 5 overs and Josh 4 overs 3 maidens 1 for 1. A great bowling and fielding performance. This win put us in a playoff for 5th against a well performed Dubbo side.

Game 4 v Dubbo at Orange

Anthony won the toss and elected to bat on the same turf pitch as the day before. We now knew that scoring runs was a real challenge on most turf wickets and that any score over 100 was defendable. Dubbo took early wickets and with the score on 2-6 Tim De La Hoyde was joined at the crease by Lachlan Carfax. A solid matchwinning partnership followed with both players defending well and driving strongly through the off side. 60 runs were added before Tim was caught for an excellent 29 trying to pick up the run rate. Wickets followed with Lachlan being run out for 28 and from 2-66 we fell to 9-93. However Jack Parkinson and Jeff Burt combined for a critical last wicket stand of 23 with Jack playing some great pull shots in his 16 and Jeff providing support right to the end. This gave us a total of 116, a score we knew we could defend.

Baxter Holt and Jack Parkinson took the new ball and continued from where they left off the day before. Dubbo found it hard to score and after 8 overs were 1-15. Jeff Burt struck in his first over with Lachlan taking a great catch at first slip. Anthony and Jeff then bowled 8 overs for 10 runs between them to put the pressure right on. Daniel Maittlen bowled his leg spin with great control and combined with Tim De La Hoyde’s off spin to shut the runs down. Baxter Holt came back into the attack and took a great catch off his own bowling straight away. At 5-76 Dubbo were still well in the game but Lachlan Carfax and Baxter decided it was time for the bails to fly and took the next 4 wickets between them. Under pressure Dubbo risked against our fielders and came off second best with a run out ending their chase. Final score was 91, 25 runs short of our total. Baxter finished

55

with 2-10 off 6 overs, Jeff 2-10 off 8 overs and Lachlan 2-17 off 6 overs. A great win and a great way to finish the week.

The final tour analysis was 3 wins and one loss. The side finshed in 5th place out of 12 sides from all over NSW and ACT, a fine effort. It was a great learning experience for all the boys playing on variable turf wickets and a real test backing up 4 days straight. I would like to thank all the boys and their parents for their enthusiasm and support for the full week and for creating a great memory for everyone. To Russell Maittlen, who managed the team, and to Noel Ford, who organized the tour, thank you for your initiative and work in getting a Northern Districts rep side to this tournament. There is no question that competing in these events provides a great experience and great learning opportunity for all involved.

NORTHERN DISTRICT CRICKET UMPIRES ASSOCIATION President’s Report

On behalf of my other regular umpiring members, I present the Annual Report for the season 2011 - 2012.

This season was not a good time for two umpires namely me (Bob Flint) and John Boyles. I had a fall early November and had to have major surgery to his right knee and this put him out for the season. I thank John Crane for visiting me in hospital at Southport Queensland when he was on holidays. English Umpire John Boyles had a back operation early in the season and his Doctor told him not to travel to Australia. So we were down to John Crane and then along came Peter Tate who umpired most of the season. John will be travelling to Sydney next season and we hope he umpires with us all season.

The Association Secretary endeavoured to ensure that all grades received a fair share of “official” umpires by a system of rotation through the grades. Given however, that on each Saturday throughout the season, NDCA conducted some fifteen matches, it goes without saying that there is an urgent need for additional qualified umpires. In this regard, I would again appeal to all those more seasoned players who are considering “hanging up their boots” to stay involved in the game that they love by becoming an umpire. We have been advised that the Juniors will again be running the Umpires Examinations with the NSWCU&SA at the end of the season and we extend our congratulations. This goes well with the Juniors in developing official umpires among their ranks and the chance to umpire in the Senior ranks for experience.

As well as the number of club matches, our members this year were again involved in the Inter District Representative matches which were held on Sundays in October and November. The matches were the Junior games in the Creak U11, Cawsey U12, Gee U13, Moore U14, Weblin U15 and Watson U16 Shields, with no Senior Representative teams. We convey our thanks to the following Umpires John Crane, Kieran Gray, Greg Berriman, John Craig, Homer Paxton, Ron Vidler and to the NSWCUSA Umpires John Williams and David McCarty. We also like to thank the Umpires from Hawkesbury, Newcastle, Northern Suburbs, Manly and Bankstown who assisted us in their home grounds. These matches provide an excellent opportunity to see up and coming young cricketers from many areas and to umpire a good standard of cricket. John also umpired some of the semis and finals of the Junior Reps.

John Crane was selected to umpire the NSW District Cricket Association Girls Inter-Association Shield Carnival in the Mollie Dive Shield (U13) and the Margaret Pedan Shield (U15). The carnival was from 15th to 22nd January 2012 and was held at The Eric Mobbs Reserve, Castle Hill over four grounds. Each age group played a round robin over three days with the finals on the last day. They also played a final 20/20 game between the 3rd and 4th placed teams on the final Sunday. Everyone enjoyed themselves in a very well organised competition.

My thanks go to our officiating umpires during the season. We were able to cover 6 of the ten Semi-Finals and all 5 Finals with the assistance of Craig Menzies, Dale Arnott, Peter Tate, Craig Hoskin, Greg Berriman, John Crane, Nirmal De Silva and Shires Umpire Ajit Madan. Next season semis and finals we will be trying to get more Shires and NSWCUSA Umpires to become available.

Congratulations to all those who enjoyed success during the season and we look forward to seeing you all in 2012 – 2013 with the hope that the qualified Junior Umpires will get experience with umpiring in the Senior competitions.

Bob Flint, President

NORTHERN DISTRICT

CRICKET ASSOCIATION

These are the teams who have, according to the Association’s records, played in the competitions during the NDCA’s 100 years of existence. Many of these clubs have vanished into the mists of time, some merged with other clubs, old ones went, new ones joined and many who were there at the beginning are still there and they helped form the nucleus of what very quickly became a strong and successful Association
