Each department has operations and maintenance yards for vehicles and equipment, and each departments conducts in- house staff training on stormwater pollution prevention practices annually as part crew “tailgate” trainings and safety and environmental protection trainings. FAF conducted four Stormwater Pollution Prevention “tailgate” trainings to a total of 38 maintenance staff during October and November 2014, for example. For additional information, refer to the C.2 Municipal Operations section of the FY 14-15 Program Annual Report for a description of program and regional activities implemented. C.2.a. ►Street and Road Repair and Maintenance Place a Y in the boxes next to activities where applicable BMPs were implemented. Sweeping and/or vacuuming and other dry methods to remove debris, concrete, or sediment residues from work sites upon completion of Y work. Comments: Roads and Parks typically follow the applicable practices of the CASQA Stormwater BMP Handbook when performing street and road repair and maintenance. Control of wash water from pavement washing, mobile cleaning, pressure wash operations at parking lots, garages, trash areas, gas station Y fueling areas, and sidewalk and plaza cleaning activities from polluting stormwater Y Implementation of the BASMAA Mobile Surface Cleaner Program BMPs Comments: Due to drought conditions, Parks only performed "Dry Clean-up" methods for these activities. All departments follow the BASMAA BMP's in situations when wash water must be used. Y Control of discharges from bridge and structural maintenance activities directly over water or into storm drains Y Control of discharges from graffiti removal activities Y Proper disposal for wastes generated from bridge and structure maintenance and graffiti removal activities Y Implementation of the BASMAA Mobile Surface Cleaner Program BMPs for graffiti removal Employee training on proper capture and disposal methods for wastes generated from bridge and structural maintenance and graffiti Y removal activities. Contract specifications requiring proper capture and disposal methods for wastes generated from bridge and structural maintenance and Y graffiti removal activities. Comments: Graffiti is painted over by County departments and painting is only done during dry weather. Maintenance of bridges by Roads consists of replacing damaged railing or guard rails. As with all other maintenance work, bridge work is subject to applicable measures included in the CASQA Stormwater BMP Handbook. Major bridge maintenance work is done by contractors, and BMPs are mandated by both the County and other regulatory agencies (i.e., the California Department of Fish and Wildlife) involved in the review and permitting of those projects.
