"Ford Model AA Service Car/Wrecker" 1930 Ford AA Truck 131.5" Chassis & Wheel Base Model /Number: 229A Weight: 2900# Tire Size: 600-20 Motor: 4 Cylinder, 201 CID, 40 HP 6 Volt Battery w/positive ground Transmission: 4 speed Manual w/Reverse Fuel Capacity: 11 Gal. Gasoline Chassis: Ford Motor Co. Body: Briggs Manufacturing Hoist Capacity: 6,000 Lbs. Winch Control: Manual Crank Quantity Manufactured: 521 Price New: $790 When the automobile industry was growing, highway traffic was always a concern. There were more stalled cars and more traffic collisions. With these conditions growing more and more often, Ford developed the Service Car/Wrecker. This truck consisted of a Ford AA heavy duty 131.5 Chassis. This chassis had a single axel with five slotted single mounted steel rimmed wheels. The wheels were produced by the Bud Company. The Briggs manufactured body included a tool box, a Weaver mechanical hoist, with a hand crank winch, high cargo box sides with a rail on the top, and a driver side door with an indent in it to prevent the side mounted spare tire from damaging the door when fully opened. Full length running boards were also provided for easier access to the cargo area and built in tool box. The appearance of these trucks lacked typical Model A shiny stainless steel parts and also modern day safety lighting. Loaned to the Museum by: Tim Kelley - New Canaan, CT These trucks were sold to service garages, service stations, and Ford dealers. The Service Car/Wrecker was not only used for towing troubled vehicles. The Weaver winch also served as a portable crane for moving and lifting heavy objects. When using the winch, the most dangerous part is in the initial lifting process. The location of the crank control was installed in a safe right wheel fender area for the operator to be out of harm's way. "Ford Model AA Service Car/Wrecker" .

"Ford Model AA Oil Tanker Truck" 1930 Ford Model AA 185A Platform Rated: 1-1/2 Ton Motor: 4 Cylinder, 201 CID, 40 HP 6 Volt Battery w/positive ground Brakes: Mechanical Tire Size: High Pressure 32-6 Transmission: 4 Speed Manual non synchronized Fuel Capacity: 11 Gal. Gasoline Truck Body: Briggs and Murray Cargo Body: Columbia Steel Tank Co. Steel Tank Capacity: 625 Gal. Features: Rear cantilever leaf springs Wheel Rims: Bud 5 hole Rear End Type: Single Axle, ring and pinion differential w/dual tires Wheel Base: 157" Service trucks were used for many purposes. This Tanker Truck had three separate internal tanks for different fuels. The most common fuel used was gasoline, kerosene, for lamps, and fuel oil for home furnaces. Each tank could be dispensed independently. All Model AA chassis had wood mounted on the chassis before any structure was added. The five hole steel wheels, produced by the Bud Wheel CO. were specifically designed to allow a dual wheel application without tires rubbing on each other. The differential used a ring and pinion rather than a worm gear used in the Model T. This allowed more speed for the vehicle. The transmission is a four speed manual type with reverse. The transmission was not synchronized and used a different gear ratio, than the Ford Model A standard, to allow more torque for moving heavy loads. Radiators for the Model AA trucks had four cores for cooling rather than the standard three core radiators, used on Model A automobiles. Donated by: Tim Kelley - New Canaan, CT In many cities and towns, oil products were delivered from the oil refineries by railroad.

  • Adenauer Holt Ford Nach Köln
Auto-Medienportal.

  • Too Much Ice Cream and Kite Chaos Leads to a Fat Lip for Jim
Vol 47 Sept/ 15 Too much Ice Cream and Kite Chaos leads to a fat lip for Jim. Suzan weighs her over-Shellacked entry Tom busted Jon mows the lawn. The Hargraves’ saved Kayla awaits her by REPO MAN Launch Window. I knew it would be an interesting day from the get go. As we were ready to pull out of Macy’s lot, Bob & Raphael Hargrave discovered they had locked keys in their car. They called Triple A for a slim jim. But 3A didn’t show, so they flagged down an unmarked tow truck slowly cruising thru the parking lot. Turned out the tough guy driving was a REPO MAN looking for his victim, but saw their situation and decided to be a good samaritan for a moment. He popped the lock in one swift move. No charge. Walter Andersen’s ’34 wouldn’t start. He instructed his 3 young passengers to hop out and push so he could pop the clutch and join the convoy. As usual Tour Director Jim Thomas was just being helpful when he threw Joey’s kite into the wind. But it dive bombed him right in the lip. What about Rick Storr’s aborted launch? The kite did a death dive, on its way to a crash landing, wrapping its string around Rick’s ankles. Rick was tripped up and sat on the kite. My Kite set a new low altitude record for staying just high enough to trim the grass most of the day. Suzan Valentino had layered a few too many coats of shellack on hers.

  • Model a Web U-Joint Housing Timeline
1 TIME LINE OF PARTS ORIGINAL FORD DATA As of October 12, 2006 The following is a timeline of the Model A /AA Ford Transmission main shaft bearing retainer, A- 7085, and the Universal joint housing cap—outer, A-4520, and inner, A-4513 assemblies. The data follows the engineering release dates as Ford made improvements to the parts in the engineering department. It also follows other Ford data as the Ford Service Bulletins, Ford Service Letters and Parts Price Lists. Just when the new parts and/or assemblies ended up in the actual production assembly line of the Model A and AA is unknown and was dependent on several factors. Where the designation of “Note:” is or statements in parenthesis, are my thoughts about the part or assembly. Equal spaced and unequal spaced refer to the spacing of the six (6) attachment bolt holes in each assembly. Thin flanged ( ¼ inch ) and thick flanged ( 5/16 inch) refer to the thickness of the six (6) bolt hole flanges on the Transmission main shaft bearing retainer, A-7085 only. September 29, 1927 Release # 3062 A-7085: Transmission main shaft bearing retainer (Forging) (equal spaced and thin flanged) Changed diameter of holes from 11/32 to 25/64 and moved boss for oiler around 60 deg. Specified all chassis instead of A chassis only. (Go to November 10, 1927) Note: Not sure if this is referring to the change of location of the grease zerk between A-7085 (A- 7085-A) and A-7085-B which occurred in mid-November, 1927 when the part went from being equal spaced mounting holes to unequal spaced mounting holes.
