Monique, a threadmaker and native of Tournai, lived in the lodging house kept by M. Paul. Asked what he had done on the night of 21-22 July, Monique replied that he had spent the night in his lodging house and I' . around 4:30 A.M. he got up and left his room to go to work. Going through the rue des Malades . he saw a lot of tumult around the house of Mr. Martel. People were throwing all the furniture and goods out the window." . Asked where he got the eleven gold -louis, the other money, and the elegant walking stick he was carrying when arrested, he claimed to have found them all on the street, among M. Martel's effects. The police didn't believe his claims. They had him tried immediately, and hanged him the same day (A.M. Lille 14336, 18040). According to the account of that tumultuous night authorized by the Magistracy (city council) of Lille on 8 August, anonymous letters had warned that there would be trouble on 22 July. ICFA Annual Conference in the North of France with visits to Lille, Tourcoing, Douai, Valenciennes, Cambrai, Amiens and Compiegne 26 to 28 October 1995 The Museums in Nord/Pas-de-Calais Thursday, October 26. Morning The meeting begins with the traditional board meeting. The Chairman H. van Os greets the members and thanks the Secretary, Jacques Kuhnmunch to have organized the meeting in France. They give the breaking news of the Committee : Maria Rosa Figueiredo resigns because she doesn’t regularly participate to our meetings; other colleagues (V. Villadsen and Knut Berg) are retired and must be replaced. H. van Os proposes Henry Defoer (Netherland) and Konstanty Kalinowski (Poland) as new members. He and the Secretary will remain another year. The next meeting will take place in Netherland; we shall visit some renovated museums (Groningen). The display of the financial balance by Viviane Huchard, treasurer, encloses this meeting. Following the invitation of Jacques Kuhnmunch and Françoise Baligand, the Region Nord- Pas-de-Calais welcomes our meeting. It will make a stage in Picardy where we visit the castle of Compiègne and the Musée de Picardie in Amiens. Thanks to Christine Giard for the translation in English. The first day is held in the offices of Direction Regionale des Affaires culturelles (Roger Barrié, regional director). Two prestigious hosts joined us: Jean-Yves Marin, ICOM French Committee’s President and Dominique Vieville, deputy director of the Museums of France. This region undertook an ambitious program of renovation of museums in spite of a severe economic crisis. Nevertheless, the politicians would have been able to give the priority to the social housing or to the wrestling against the insecurity.

  • Press Kit Lille 2016
www.lilletourism.com PRESS KIT LILLE 2016 ALL YOU NEED IS LILLE Press Release Just 80 minutes away from London, 1 hour from Paris and 35 minutes from Brussels, Lille could quite easily have melted into the shadows of its illustrious neighbours, but instead it is more than happy to cultivate and show off all that makes it stand out from the crowd! Flemish, Burgundian and then Spanish before it became French, Lille boasts a spectacular heritage. A trading town since the Middle Ages, a stronghold under Louis XIV, a hive of industry in the 19th century and an ambitious hub in the 20th century, Lille is now imbued with the memories of the past, interweaved with its visions for the future. While the Euralille area is a focal point of bold architecture by Rem Koolhaas, Jean Nouvel or Christian de Portzamparc, the Lille-Sud area is becoming a Mecca for fashionistas. Since 2007, some young fashion designers (sponsored by Agnès b.) have set up workshops and boutiques in this new “fashion district” in the making. With lille3000, it’s the whole city that has started to look towards the future, enjoying a dramatic makeover for this new recurrent event, geared towards contemporary art and innovation. The European Capital of Culture in 2004, Lille is now a leading light in this field, with the arts ma- king themselves quite at home here. From great museums to new alternative art centres, from the Opera to the theatres through the National Or- chestra, culture is a living and breathing part of everyday life here.
