ARIAS (Chicago, IL) danced with Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre and was Hubbard Street Dance Chicago nominated for the 1989 Chicago Dance Coalition's Award for Outstanding Dancer. He choreographed a music video for MTV and assisted choreographer Harrison McEldowney LOU CONTE (Founder and Artistic Director) began dance lessons as a child in DuQuoin, Illinois. She has served on the board of Dance/USA and on Cameron, Richard Atve, Delores Lipinski, Margaret Lynn DiCianni and Warren Conover. She numerous funding panels, including the lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Arts Partners Panel, city, state and joined HSDC in 1989 and currently studies with Ginger Farley, Birute Barodicaite and Larry regional agency funding panels and the Dance on Tour and Challenge Panels of the National Endowment for Long. For three seasons she performed in Ruth Page's spring concerts and in the Nutcracker. the Arts. Ms. Kalver serves on the boards of the Chicago Dance Coalition and the Illinois Arts Alliance. She Ms. Carrillo also performed as a guest artist at Barat College and with the Chicago Repertory is a member of the advisory committee of the School of Music of DePaul University and serves on the Arts Advisory Council of the Arts Business Council and the Arts Advisory Council of Bowen High School in Dance Ensemble's 1988 "New " program. Chicago. Ms. Kalver is the recipient of the Chicago Dance Coalition's 1988 Ruth Page Award for her \ outstanding contribution to the Chicago dance community. SANDI J. COOKSEY ffuneau, AJO started dancing in 1980 while she was a competitive gymnast in Monterey, CA. Her dance studies include Hidden Valley Dance Center, Janice Hoist MARIA SIMONETTI (Rehearsal Director/Ballet Mistress) studied at the Institute of Superior Art of the Dance School, The National Academy of Arts, Giordano Dance Center and Lou Conte Dance Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where her instructors included Olga Ferri, Maria Luisa Lemos and Studio. She has toured and performed in 12 countries with Ballet Iberio Hispanico, Giordano Mario Galizzi. In 1990 Ms. Simonetti studied on scholarship with The Jeffrey Ballet School and in 1991 completed the Professional Course in Centro Pro Danza in Havana, Cuba, where she was also an Jazz Dance Chicago and HSDC. Office Manager/Business Assistant Kim Swinton Diana Anton Director of Marketing MARLA FENSKE (Edmonton, Alberta) joined HSDC in 1994. She began training in gymnastics, Educational Outreach Coordinator Keffi Corkle then studied dance at the Pacific Dance Centre in Victoria, British Columbia, and the Banff Marketing Manager School of Fine Arts. Ms. Fenske trained three years at the School of Les Grands Ballet Angela M. Combest DEVELOPMENT Canadiennes before joining Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal where she danced from 1990-1994. Shannon Mofta Marketing/Public Relations Associate Director of Development DAVID GOMEZ (Dayton, OH) has studied and performed with the Dance Theatre of Dayton Vivienne Jones SPECIAL SERVICES Development Manager Kupferberg Goldberg and Neimark under the direction of Debbie DeRado and Melissa Swartz and later danced in the jazz program Leah M. Kaiser Auditor at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. In addition, Mr. Gomez has danced with the Salt Creek Ballet, Grants Writer & DanceMaker Akasha Dance Company and Ruth Page's Nutcracker. He joined HSDC in 1992 and thanks his Coordinator Donald I. Resnick mother for her love and support. Stefanie LaFond Jenner & Block Legal Counsel Development Assistant LAURA ELENA HANEY (Colorado Springs, CO) began her training at age four, studying with Esther Geoffrey and Michael Allen. She attended Walnut Hill School for the Arts where she graduated in 1990. Later that year, Ms. Haney moved to Chicago to study at the Lou Conte Patrick joined HSDC in 1985. He has performed with the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Chicago and Oregon Ballet Ballet Company, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Lou Conte Dance Studio and the Alvin Theatre. Mr. Ross most recently danced with the River North Dance Company before joining Ailey Dance Studio. Ms. Henriksen has danced throughout Europe and the U.S. with Gus HSDC in March 1995. Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Elisa Monte Dance Company, Diane Jacobowitz Dance Theatre, River North Dance Company, Ernst/Watson Dance Ensemble and Maggie Kast JENNITA RUSSO (Elgin, IL) studied dance with Donna Muzio and trained at the National Company. She joined HSDC in 1993. Ms. Henriksen would like to thank her husband David Academy of Arts in Champaign, IL, and the Pennsylvania Ballet School in Philadelphia. He has performed in numerous musicals with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, the Playhouse Theater Co.'s KRISTA SWENSON (Rochester, MD began dancing at an early age in the Chicago area, production of The Mystery of Edwin DroodanA an east coast production of West Side Story. studying with Rory Foster, Carol Walker and Randy Duncan. Before joining Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre in 1985, where he studied MARIO ALBERTO ZAMBRANO (Houston, TX) studied and trained at the High School for the jazz with Randy Duncan and with Harriet Ross, he was a member of the Performing Arts in Houston and the Houston Ballet Academy. He has danced with the Houston University Dance Theatre. He attended Illinois State University and has since been on the Ballet, Corpus Christi Ballet Company and the Delia Stewart Dance Company. MARY NESVADBA (Houston, TX) started ballet training at an early age. She later studied at the Fort Worth Ballet where she performed as a guest artist. Ms. Nesvadba spent two summers THE THARP PROJECT with the School of American Ballet in New York City and three years with the Houston Ballet School. JOSEPH P. PANTALEON (San Diego, CA) began his training in ballet and jazz at age 19 while AT&T Foundation studying clinical psychology at San Diego State University. He was a member of the PASACAT Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation Performing Arts Company and performed in many fashion, industrial and musical theater Julius Frankel Foundation productions. Since moving to Chicago, Mr. Pantaleon has worked with Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, River North Dance Company, Chicago Repertory Dance Ensemble, Barat Polk Bros. Foundation College Repertory Dance Ensemble and The James Kelly Choreography Project. He joined Charitable Trusts HSDC in 1993. Founded in 1977 by veteran dancer/choreographer Lou Conte, the company at Governors State University began as an ensemble of four women. HSDC gave its first public performance in 1978 at a senior citizens home under the auspices of Urban Gateways, an arts education organization. Today, as an ensemble of 20 culturally diverse and internationally-acclaimed dancers, the company performs annually for a world- wide audience of more than 100,000 people. HSDC has appeared at celebrated dance venues including the American Dance Festival, DanceAspen, the Holland Dance Festival, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the Joyce Theater, the Kennedy Center and the Singapore Festival of the Arts. Through outreach programs annually serving more than 17,000 students and senior citizens, HSDC maintains a strong would like to extend its commitment to the community.

From its inception, HSDC has captured public attention, appearing in numerous U.S. and Canadian television programs. WTTW/Channel 11 (Chicago) produced and aired HSDC's first special in 1981. After viewing the company's television debut, Fred Astaire called the performance "some of the greatest dancing I've seen in years." A second WTTW special, hosted by Gwen Verdon, aired nationally in 1985. In 1988, the national PBS special A GrandNight - The Performing Arts Salute to Public Television featured HSDC as one of the best in American performing arts. The company appeared on NBC's Today Show'w. 1988 and on CBS's Crown Jewel, a television special honoring the sixtieth anniversary of Chicago's historic Civic Opera House in 1989. In 1986, the state of Illinois presented HSDC with the Governor's Award, a prestigious acknowledgment of the company's prominence and exemplary achievement.

Rapid artistic growth has been reflected in the financial realm as well. HSDC's budget has grown from $8,000 in 1978 to over $2 million for the 1995-1996 season. As a not-for-profit organization, HSDC annually raises over $1 million from individual, corporate, foundation and government contributions.
