Sava RBMP Draft ver. 5.0 Sava River Basin Management Plan Disclaimer The Sava RBMP is based on data delivered by the Sava countries. If countries did not de- liver data, other data sources have been used where available. Sources other than the competent authorities have been clearly identified in the Plan. A more detailed level of information is presented in the national RBMPs of Slovenia and Croatia as a European Union Member State and Accession Country, respectively, at the time of preparing this document. The Sava RBMP should therefore be read and inter- preted in conjunction with the national RBMPs. Where inconsistencies may have oc- curred, the national RBMPs are likely to provide the more accurate information. An overall contribution to the Sava RBMP development and data were provided by the institutions listed below: Slovenia: Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Institute for Water of the Re- public of Slovenia, Environmental Agency of Slovenia, Geological Survey of Slovenia, In- stitute for Nature Conservation of the Republic of Slovenia. Croatia: Ministry of Regional Development, Forestry and Water Management, Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Croatian Waters, State Hydrometeorological Service of Croatia, State Institute for Nature Protection, Croatian Geological Survey, University of Zagreb - Faculty of Science, State Hydrometeorological Service of Croatia. Montenegro: Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development – Directorate for Water, Hydrological and Meteorological Service of Montenegro. Some countries were not able to provide all the information needed for this Plan and these gaps are noted in the text. Where data has been made available, it has been exam- ined and is presented to the best of available knowledge. Nevertheless inconsistencies cannot be ruled out. DASHI, launched by WWF in 2011, aims to reduce the adverse impacts of hydropower development in the Western Balkans and to promote good practices in the region. The Initiative focuses on the protection of the region’s most precious freshwater ecosystems, in particular Ramsar wetlands such as Livanjsko Polje and Hutovo Blato in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Lake Skadar shared by Albania and Montenegro. HYDROPOWER NEWS FROM THE REGION WWF reveals the undiscovered world of Dinarides Through the Dinaric Arc Parks project (www.discoverdinarides.com) WWF urges the region and the world to discover the “undiscovered world of Dinarides.” The largest canyon in the world after the canyon of the Colorado River; the oldest and largest rainforest in Europe; meadows with more orchid species than there are in the whole UK; the largest and longest gorge in Europe ... all this is hiding in the Dinaric Arc region! Inspired by all these amazing facts, the creative agency Leo Burnett in Croatia designed a media campaign to promote the brand “Parks Dinarides” which can be seen from April in numerous newspapers, internet portals and on many TV stations throughout the region. www.discoverdinarides.com Energy Strategy for the “The current energy strategy for the Balkans is not in line with European Western Balkans environmental standards” (Jelko Kacin, EP MP) In February, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (AFET) held a public debate on the energy strategy of the European Energy Community for the countries of the western Balkans, chaired by MP Jelko Kacin.

  • Local Memory Practices of the Memorial Complex at Mrakovica, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Manuela BRENNER The Construction, De- and Reconstruction of History and Memory: Local Memory Practices of the Memorial Complex at Mrakovica, Bosnia and Herzegovina THE CONSTRUCTION, DE- AND RECONSTRUCTION OF HISTORY AND MEMORY: LOCAL MEMORY PRACTICES OF THE MEMORIAL COMPLEX AT MRAKOVICA, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Manuela BRENNER University of Regensburg UDK: 069(497.6 Mrakovica):94(4)“1941/1945“ 069(497.6 Mrakovica:355(497.6)“1992/1995“ Prethodno priopćenje Primljeno: 07.10.2013. Prihvaćeno: 05.01.2014. This paper examines the memory practices of the memorial complex at Mrakovica at the Kozara National Park in the Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The original concept of the memorial site, founded in 1972, was to keep the Kozara-epos alive. The erected monument, the memorial wall and the museum were built to remember one of the biggest battles during the Second World War on Yugoslav soil during which more than ten thousand Partisan fighters and civilians lost their lives. During the communist era the memorial site fit into the official memory frame: the high number of casualties, especially civilians, was put into the foreground and the Partisans in their struggle for liberation were glorified. The key component of the official narrative was the slogan brotherhood and unity. After the armed conflict in the 1990s, the site underwent several transformations. New memorial frames were set by nationalists; thus history and memory were thereby de- and reconstructed. The new narrative included not only victims of the Second World War but exclusively those victims belonging to the ethnic group of Serbs of the First World War and the conflict in 1992-95.

Abstract Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level.
