During the first months of 1865, Confederate forces readied themselves to defend against the Union army led by William T. Sherman. As that army advanced toward Columbia, it had to cross well defended positions along several rivers. Join expert guides at two of these battlefields, at Rivers Bridge State Historic Site and at Congaree Creek. Well preserved earthworks at both sites will provide a better understanding of what the Union army faced and how the Confederate defenders hoped to delay them. The program includes two nights in the lakeside cabins at Santee State Park, two guided battlefield tours, and transportation from Santee State Park to the sites and back. There will be walking involved at both field sites. Cost: $129/person (double occupancy), $225/person (single occupancy). 803-854-2408, http://discoversouthcarolina.com/products/10004541 End of Streight’s Raid Old DeKalb County Courthouse The Charleston Museum Cedar Bluff, AL Decatur, GA Charleston, SC FollowFollow the the Civil Civil War War Heritage Heritage Trails Trails * * www.CivilWarHeritageTrails.org www.CivilWarHeritageTrails.org * * Facebook Facebook * * Twitter Twitter * * YouTube YouTube * * Pinterest Pinterest.
