Chairman y 7 f il ABSTRACT Lester, James D. (Ph.D.) Melville's Piazza Tales : The Quest for Communications Directed by Professor E, Paul Alworth This study explores an incompletely examined area in Melville scholarship: focusing on The Piazza Tales it examines Melville's quest for a more perfect communication. The six stories convey a Melvillian view of communication breakdowns among men, especially as misuse of language isolates the non- communicative soul. Although his tales are more than communi cations tragedies, an awareness of articulation breakdowns intensifies each story. In summary, his theory demonstrates these concepts: every man desires communication to overcome both his own imperfections and the external barriers preventing communication; some men successfully communicate, others merely articulate with hollow substance, and a few tragic ones reject communications entirely. The personalities seek communicative contact to find identity of self, to fill aesthetic needs, or to achieve therapeutic or psychological release, Melville evidences concern with three barriers: social norms that dis tort the receiver's attention to truth, the closed mind of the self-centered man, and the misreading of signs and symbols.

  • Led Zeppelin II (1969)
Led Zeppelin II (1969) Led Zeppelin was an English rock band that consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. Formed in London in 1968, the group's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors of heavy metal, though their unique style drew from a wide variety of influences, including folk music. Led Zeppelin II (1969) is the second studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in October 1969 on Atlantic Records. Recording sessions for the album took place at several locations in the United Kingdom and North America from January to August 1969. Led Zeppelin II was conceived during a hectic and much-travelled period of Led Zeppelin's career from January through August 1969, when they completed four European and three American concert tours. Each song was separately recorded, mixed and produced at various studios in the UK and North America. The album was written on tour, during periods of a couple of hours in between concerts, Led Zeppelin II has been cited by music writers as a blueprint for heavy metal bands that followed it. In my opinion Led Zeppelin II is not my favorite album- their 1969 self- titled debut, Led Zeppelin is. The reason I chose this album is because it has a good line up and I didn’t know much about this album previous. Some of the tracks on this album that ‘pop’ are: “Whole Lotta Love” (5:33) “What is and What Should Never Be” (4:47) “The Lemon Song” (6:20) “Thank You” (3:50) Side 2 “Heartbreaker” (4:13) “Living Loving Maid” (2:40) “Ramble On” (4:55) “Moby Dick” (4:25) “Bring it On Home” (4:19) .
