Introduction
INTRODUCTION Nationally, approximately 40% of new attorneys work at firms consisting of more than 50 lawyers. Therefore, a large percentage of practicing attorneys work for small firms (fewer than 50 attorneys). Small firms generally do not have formalized recruiting procedures or a set “hiring season” when they recruit summer law clerks, school-year law clerks, or entry-level attorneys. Instead, these firms hire on an as-needed basis, and they hire year round. To secure employment with a small firm, students and lawyers alike need to be proactive in getting their name and interests out in the community. Applicants should not only apply directly to these firms, but they should connect via law school, community, and bar association activities. In this directory, you will find state-by-state hyperlinks to regional directories, bar associations, newspapers, and job banks that can be used to jump-start a small firm search. December 4, 2017 the Hon. Wilbur L. Ross, Jr., Secretary United States Department of Commerce 1401 Constitution Avenue, NW Washi
December 4, 2017 The Hon. Wilbur L. Ross, Jr., Secretary United States Department of Commerce 1401 Constitution Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20230 Re: Uncoated Groundwood Paper from Canada, Inv. Nos. C–122–862 and A-122-861 Dear Secretary Ross: On behalf of the thousands of employees working at the more than 1,100 newspapers that we publish in cities and towns across the United States, we urge you to heavily scrutinize the antidumping and countervailing duty petitions filed by North Pacific Paper Company (NORPAC) regarding uncoated groundwood paper from Canada, the paper used in newspaper production. We believe that these cases do not warrant the imposition of duties, which would have a very severe impact on our industry and many communities across the United States. NORPAC’s petitions are based on incorrect assessments of a changing market, and appear to be driven by the short-term investment strategies of the company’s hedge fund owners. The stated objectives of the petitions are flatly inconsistent with the views of the broader paper industry in the United States. The print newspaper industry has experienced an unprecedented decline for more than a decade as readers switch to digital media. Print subscriptions have declined more than 30 percent in the last ten years. Although newspapers have successfully increased digital readership, online advertising has proven to be much less lucrative than print advertising. As a result, newspapers have struggled to replace print revenue with online revenue, and print advertising continues to be the primary revenue source for local journalism. If Canadian imports of uncoated groundwood paper are subject to duties, prices in the whole newsprint market will be shocked and our supply chains will suffer. -
A Genealogical History Compiled by Norma Todd Cansler B & H Printing
AR:MSTRONGS OF THE CATAHBA a genealogical history Compiled by Norma Todd Cansler B & H Printing and Letter Service Dallas 1969 Copyright, 1969, by Norma Todd Cansler Printed in the United States All Rights Reserved FOREHORD This compilation, incomplete as it is, assembles the largest collective body of information to be published to date on descendants of the Armstrong family of the Catawba Creek branch of the James River area in Colonial Virginia. It is hoped that others will continue the research in depth, adding to knowledge of the pioneer family as well as completing some of the lines. The volume addresses itself not only to descendants but to persons of other lines engaged in genealogical search. It seeks to record for present and future generations a collection of family letters, Bible records, newspaper clippings, court records of deeds, wills and marriages, and cemetery inscriptions. In some cases it will provide a glimpse of community life to those interested in the history of the particular localities. These are the facts as we have been able to ascertain them. How little they convey of the lives of those who have gone on before us. I am grateful to dozens of descendants who have shared information. In parti cular I 1Jould express appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth B. McAfee, Evanston, Illinois, for making available to me the unpublished genealogical journal of Rev. Samuel L. JvicAfee, D. D. (1841-1917-+). Mrs. J. H. Langford, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, who is descended from three of the children of John and Priscilla Armstrong, was very helpful in providing information on those branches. -
