EOC PRESIDENT EOC Newsletter
EOC Newsletter No. 197 November - December 2019 MESSAGE FROM THE EOC PRESIDENT Dear colleagues, By all sporting measures, 2019 was a great success for the European Olympic Committees and Olympic Movement in Europe. Our flagship property, the European Games, was expertly hosted by our friends in Minsk, cementing its status as our continent’s premier multi-sport event. Minsk 2019 also significantly raised the profile of the European Games, pointing the way to even greater things ahead. We are confident that Kraków and the Małopolska Region of Poland, which were elected host of the 2023 edition earlier this year, will pick up right where Minsk left off and deliver a cost-effective, sustainable event that will bring many long-lasting benefits to the region and the people who live there. Over 4,500 of our best young athletes, meanwhile, showed that the future of sport in Europe is in very good hands following their memorable performances at two editions of the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2019: Sarajevo and East Sarajevo (winter) in February and Baku (summer) in July. In addition to the many excellent athletic performances, the EYOF once again demonstrated that peace, harmony and hope for a better future begin where sport and youth converge. This was acknowledged earlier this month by Peace and Sport, a neutral independent organisation that uses the power of sport to promote peace, which presented the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina with their Diplomatic Action of the Year award for hosting the 14th Winter EYOF. -

ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020, Day One
March 4, 2020 Tallinn, Estonia ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020, Day One Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) and Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov (RUS) took the lead in the Junior Men’s and Junior Pairs Short Programs as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020 opened in Tallinn, Estonia, on Wednesday. Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) clinches lead in Junior Men’s Short Program Youth Olympic Games Champion Yuma Kagiyama of Japan clinched a narrow lead over Russia’s Andrei Mozalev in the Junior Men’s Short Program on Wednesday. Andrew Torgashev (USA) came in third. Skating to Piano Concerto “Fate” by Akira Senju, Kagiyama landed a triple Axel, triple loop, triple Lutz-triple toe combination and picked up a level four for his spins. The Four Continents bronze medalist scored 85.82 points. “I was very relaxed today,” he said. “I was little bit concerned about my triple Axel, but my practice has been going quite well so I was able to do it with confidence. “As for the Lutz-toe combination, it was a bit shaky on the first jump, but I was able to recompose myself after the first jump. “This is my last short program of the season, so I was very happy to do a good performance. Anything can happen in the free program, I just need to continue to focus.” Mozalev’s performance to “I’ll Never Forget You” from the Russian rock opera “Juno and Avos” featured a triple loop, triple Axel and triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination as well as level-four spins and footwork. -
