Checklist of Insects of “Otdih i kultura” Park, city of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) contains 442 species from 87 families of Odonata (10 spp.), Mantodea (1 sp.), Orthoptera (12 spp.), Dermaptera (2 spp.), Hemiptera (36 spp.), Coleoptera (299 spp.), Rhaphidioptera (1 sp.), Neuroptera (3 sp.), Hymenoptera (4 sp.), Lepidoptera (71 spp.), Mecoptera (1 sp.) and Diptera (2 spp.). Key words: fauna, Insecta, urban park, Plovdiv City, Bulgaria. Introduction The protected species from the checklist are The insect fauna of city of Plovdiv has not as follows: been studied thoroughly. A lot of data about Lepidoptera are given in ADJAROFF (1924) and Order ODONATA separate data for other insect groups in some Ophiogomphus cecilia (Fourcroy, 1785) papers in PASPALEV et al. (1964; 1965). The Order COLEOPTERA most complete is the study of the insects of Lucanus cervus (Linnaeus, 1758) ANGELOV (1960) on the “Otdih i kultura” Osmoderma eremita (Scopoli, 1763) Park. In the presented publication we try to Cerambyx cerdo (Linnaeus, 1758) complete all information about this park. Morimus asper funereus (Mulsant, 1862) Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) Material and Methods Order LEPIDOPTERA The “Otdih i kultura” Park is situated to the Parnassius mnemosyne (Linnaeus, 1758) west of the city center (Fig. 1) and includes both urbanized, low urbanized and almost non- Checklist urbanized areas. The presented data for the insects in the park are entirely from literary sources: Class Insecta ADJAROFF (1924), ANGELOV (1960; 1964a; 1964b), ATANASSOV (1964) and TULEŠKOV Order ODONATA (1965). The valid species names are according to Suborder Zygoptera “Fauna Europaea” ver. 2017.06 (DEJONG et al., Family Lestidae 2014). Lestes dryas (Kirby, 1890): ANGELOV (1960). My research has explored questions on the evolution of color signals, color vision, and flight morphology. I am particularly interested in understanding the evolution of color signals, how they are perceived by intended and unintended receivers and the role of these audiences in driving population and species divergence. I also study the evolution of flight morphology because wings are large conspicuous body surfaces that can be also used as motion signal vehicles for intra- and interspecific communication.

Summarizing all changes, a total of 1062 taxa are presently known. Furthermore, based on the Böschenstein collection (Museum zu Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen), erroneous deter- minations by Gustav Stierlin could be detected and are reported herein. Keywords: Coleoptera, Curculionoidea, supplement, checklist, Switzerland.

Despite the proximity of Sredna Gora Mountains to Sofia, the insect assemblages of this region are poorly studied. As a result of two studies carried out as a part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in the Natura 2000 Protected Areas: Sredna Gora and Popintsi, a rich diversity of insects was discovered, with 107 saproxylic and epigeobiont Coleoptera species and 355 Lepidoptera species recorded. This research was conducted during a short one-season field study in the surrounding areas of the town of Panagyurishte and Oborishte Village. Special attention was paid to protected species and their conservation status. Of the Coleoptera recorded, 22 species were of conservation significance. Forty-five Lepidoptera species of conservation importance were also recorded. KEY WORDS.WORDS. Twenty-seven species are found in the Paleocene, 442 in the Eocene and 94 in the Oligocene. The greatest diversity of Curculionoidea is described from the Eocene of Europe and North America. The richest faunas are known from Eocene localities, Florissant (177 species), Baltic amber (124 species) and Green River formation (75 species). The family Curculionidae dominates in all Paleogene localities. Weevil species associated with herbaceous vegetation are present in most localities since the middle Paleocene. A list of Curculionoidea species and their distribution by location is presented. Keywords: Coleoptera; Curculionoidea; fossil weevil; faunal structure; Paleocene; Eocene; Oligocene 1. Introduction Research into the biodiversity of the past is very important for understanding the development of life on our planet. Insects are one of the Main components of both extinct and recent ecosystems. Coleoptera occupied a special place in the terrestrial animal biotas of the Mesozoic and Cenozoics, as they are characterized by not only great diversity but also by their ecological specialization.

Below: In the valley above Trigrad (PC). As with all Honeyguide holidays, part of the price of the holiday was put towards local conservation work. The conservation contributions from this holiday raised £700, namely £40 per person topped up by Gift Aid through the Honeyguide Wildlife Charitable Trust. Honeyguide is committed to supporting the protection of Lilium rhodopaeum. The Rhodope lily is a scarce endemic flower of the Western Rhodopes, found on just a handful of sites in Bulgaria and just over the border in Greece, about half of which have no protection. Money raised in 2014 was enough to fund Honeyguide leader Vlado Trifonov, who is recognised as the leading authority on the Rhodope lily, for monitoring and mowing for two years at the location visited by Honeyguiders. That includes this year (2015). That work is likely to continue for some years, but other conservation needs in the future are uncertain.

Received: 9 October 2020; Accepted: 28 October 2020; Published: 30 October 2020 Simple Summary: Several wood-associated insects are inadvertently introduced every year within wood-packaging materials used in international trade. These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies.

  • Phylogenetic Relationships and Distribution of the Rhizotrogini (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Melolonthinae) in the West Mediterranean
Graellsia, 59(2-3): 443-455 (2003) PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE RHIZOTROGINI (COLEOPTERA, SCARABAEIDAE, MELOLONTHINAE) IN THE WEST MEDITERRANEAN Mª. M. Coca-Abia* ABSTRACT In this paper, the West Mediterranean genera of Rhizotrogini are reviewed. Two kinds of character sets are discussed: those relative to the external morphology of the adult and those of the male and female genitalia. Genera Amadotrogus Reitter, 1902; Amphimallina Reitter, 1905; Amphimallon Berthold, 1827; Geotrogus Guérin-Méneville, 1842; Monotropus Erichson, 1847; Pseudoapeterogyna Escalera, 1914 and Rhizotrogus Berthold, 1827 are analysed: to demonstrate the monophyly of this group of genera; to asses the realtionships of these taxa; to test species transferred from Rhizotrogus to Geotrogus and Monotropus, and to describe external morphological and male and female genitalic cha- racters which distinguish each genus. Phylogenetic analysis leads to the conclusion that this group of genera is monophyletic. However, nothing can be said about internal relationships of the genera, which remain in a basal polytomy. Some of the species tranferred from Rhizotrogus are considered to be a new genus Firminus. The genera Amphimallina and Pseudoapterogyna are synonymized with Amphimallon and Geotrogus respectively. Key words: Taxonomy, nomenclature, review, Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Melolonthinae, Rhizotrogini, Amadotrogus, Amphimallon, Rhizotrogus, Geotrogus, Pseudoapterogyna, Firminus, Mediterranean basin.
