In the 1880’s this land became designated as picnic space, dance hall, and cottages for vacationers to enjoy. In 1887, the park opened under the name Geauga Lake. The name itself comes from the Native American word “Sheauga” which means raccoon. Before the turn of the 20th century, the park expanded to include small rides, roller rink, photo gallery, billiard hall, and bowling alley, and a hotel on the far side of the lake. In the 1920’s the park saw the erection of the park’s first roller coaster, the Big Dipper. Overtime, the park changed hands, and SeaWorld opened across the lake.

Summer at the library is all about discovery and the joy of learning. This summer – in addition to our usual abundance of quality youth programming and activities – we are offering more than 75 free summer camps designed to help students build STEM, literacy, communication and other valuable skills that translate to success in the classroom and beyond. We have camps on everything from constructing and programming robots, designing web-based video games, creating optical illusions and magic to fitness, teen entrepreneurship, conducting science experiments and exploring creativity through collaborative art.

Valleyfair has taken steps to be well-prepared to welcome and provide accommodations for all types of disabilities, including autism and related disorders. As you know, advance planning is a requirement for any successful theme park visit with a person with ASD. Your visit to Valleyfair will include a plethora of sensory stimulation including crowds, dark and loud theatres, coasters traveling overhead, lights and noises, waiting in line, to mention a few. At Valleyfair, we strive to provide equal opportunity to all of our guests while providing a variety of options tailored to specific needs.
