Annexure - ‘A’ General Joining Instructions for various courses to be conducted at CI&JW School, SSB, () (1). Location, Travel and Important contact details:- Gwaldam a scenic hill station of enchanting beauty, is situated at an altitude of 1708 Meters (5604 feet) above MSL, in the lap of the . It nestles in the backdrop of the mighty Trishul, amidst coniferous trees of Deodar, Pine, Oak, Himalayan Fir, Rhododendrons, majestic slopes and eye catching terraces. The climate here is crisp and deliciously cool all the year around. It is located on Karanprayag - Gwaldam and -Gwaldam road at a distance of approximately 250 Kms. from Rishikesh and 200 Kms. from Kathgodam the nearest railway stations. The nearest Air port is located at Pant Nagar (240 Kms) Jollygrant () 310 Kms. Besides, there is a Helipad at Kunila Campus of this Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, SSB, Gwaldam. (a). Kathgodam is the nearest Rail head in Kumaon from where Gwaldam is approximately 200 Kms. Regular Bus/ Taxis are available from Kathgodam/ up to Gwaldam. In case the participants reach Kathgodam during odd hours, they can report to the, Transit Camp Kathgodam which is situated behind Chadha Building at a distance of about 200 yds. From Kathgodam Railway station toward Haldwani on Nanital Haldwani road. (Telephone No-05946-267685) (b). Rishikesh is the nearest Rail head in Garhwal from where Gwaldam is approximately 250 Kms. Regular Bus and Taxis are available from there up to Gwaldam. In case the participants reach Rishikesh at odd hours they should report to Transit Camp Rishikesh located approximately 1.5 Kms away from Railway Station near Muni-Ki-Reti on Rishikesh-Srinagar road popularly known as Kailash Gate. (Telephone No- 0135- 2442347) (c). The participants should report at CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam at least one day before the commencement of the competition. The participants will be received at Gwaldam Bus stand by the reception party and will be transported to their respective dormitory/barrack. (Telephone No. 01363-274269 – C.R Gwaldam). (2).Climate and Clothing (Temp range):- Gwaldam is a picturesque hill station of Garhwal region hence the climate is generally cold through-out the year. The temperature during summer varies between 10ºC to 24ºC, and during winter the temperature varies from 10ºC to (-) 12ºC. Very often Gwaldam experiences snow fall during winter. It rains heavily during rainy season. The trainees should come fully prepared according to the climate and season. Cont. P. 2 (2) (3). Reception:- All the trainees are required to report at CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam one day before the commencement of course. A Reception Committee will receive them at Gwaldam Bus Stand, Main Market. (4). Accommodation:- The trainees will be accommodated in the rooms/dormitory/barracks as per their rank. Nominal rental charges will be recovered from the trainees as per following rates:- Officers - Rs 100/-per day SOs - Rs 60/-per day ORs - Rs 20/-per day 1. Trainees must also bring their bedding as per the prevalent season. 2. No trainee will be allowed to stay outside the CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam. 3. As no family accommodation is available and the trainees are housed on a twin sharing basis they should not bring their families. (5). Messing & Mess Security:- Trainee Mess as per the rank is run during the course. The MSA as approved by FHQ will have to be paid by each trainee on arrival to the OIC Mess. (6). Recreation and Library:- A recreation room is available in each Mess of the CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam and a library with a good collection of books and magazines on different subjects is available. (7). MI Room & Nearby Medical Facilities:- M.I Room is available at Gwaldam. In case of emergency patients are referred to PHC Baijnath (23 Kms). (8). Basic Amenities:- All basic amenities are available at CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam. (9). Places of Interest/Historical places:- – 45 Kms. Baijnath temple – 23 Kms. Bagnath temple – 45 Kms.

(10). Transport:- Trainees are expected to reach Gwaldam on their own. They would be provided Transport from Gwaldam Bus Stand to the CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam and vice-versa. (11). Security & Arms:- Personal weapons and Ammunition brought by the trainees would be deposited in the CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam Kote. (12). Families.:- Family accommodation facilities is not available for the trainees. (13). Canteen & CPC:- A subsidiary CPC and a small wet Canteen is available at CI&JW School, SSB, Gwaldam where almost all items of daily need are available. (14). Discipline:- The trainees are expected to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner. All Acts of indiscipline would be dealt as per Rule. (15). Out Pass:- A matter of principle no Out pass is generally sanctioned. However in Case of extreme urgency it is granted on Sundays / Holidays. (16). Training Timing:- No fixed time varies from Course to Course. (17). Important Documents:- Personal Govt. I. Card & Movement order. (18). Medical Status :- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect. (19).Eligibility Conditions & Clothing required for specific induction/ In- service/Specialized Course:- Course wise aim, Eligibility Conditions, Clothing equipment and other requirement are as under.

(A). AIM, ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS, CLOTHING EQUIPMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENT FOR CI&JW COURSE. i. Aim:- To enhance the operational efficiency of Force personnel in the field of Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare and its new dimensions and tactics. To plan and lead troops in such operations. ii. Eligibility:- Participants should fulfill the following criteria. Cont. P. 4 (4)

a. Age:- Preferably below 40 years. b. Educational Qualification:- Matric and above c. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect & willing to undergo the Course. d. Courses done:- Basic Training with atleast 3 year of service. e. Rank :- CT and above. iii. Course Duration:- 36 working days. iv. Clothing equipment and documents:- The trainees reporting for the CI&JW Course at Gwaldam should carry the requisite documents such as proper authority letter/Movement order. (B). AIM, ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS, CLOTHING EQUIPMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENT FOR ToT COURSE ON CI&JW i. (C). AIM, ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS, CLOTHING EQUIPMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENT FOR “NON COMBATISED (NGOs) OFFICER GENERAL COURSE (LEVEL-II) ”. i. Aim:- To update and upgrade their knowledge and skill both operationally and administratively. ii. Eligibility to attend the Course:- As detailed by the Pers. Dte FHQ. iii. Documentation:- Should carry Identity Card, Movement Order & medical fitness certificate. iv. Course Duration:- 24 working days. v. Clothing equipment:- The participants should carry clothing as per the season.

(D). AIM, ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS, CLOTHING EQUIPMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENT FOR ROCK CLIMBING COURSE (RCC) i. Aim:- To inculcate spirit of adventure and promote adventure sports in SSB. ii. Eligibility to attend the Course:- Participants should fulfill the following criteria. a. Age:- Below 40 years. b. Educational Qualification:- Matric and above. c. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect and willing to undergo the course. d. Done Course:- Basic Training of their respective rank. e. Rank:- Constable & above. iii. Course Duration:- 18 working days. iv. Clothing, equipment and documents:- The trainees reporting for undergoing the course at Mountaineering Wing should carry the requisite document such as proper authority letter/movement order. Trainees should also bring with them medical fitness certificate and Identity card. The trainees should carry the following Uniform/ Clothing item.

Aim:- To develop aptitude in the field of mountaineering and promote adventure activities in the Force. ii. Eligibility to attend the Course:- Participants should fulfill the following criteria. a. Age:- Below 40 years. b. Educational Qualification:- Matric and above. c. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect, and also be willing to undergo the course. d. Courses Done:- For undergoing Medium Altitude Training Course, Rock Climbing Course with good/ very good grading i.e AX, AY & BX, BY (is a pre- requisite qualification) e. Rank:- CT and above. iii. Course Duration:- 21 days. iv. Clothing, equipment and documents:- The trainees reporting for undergoing the course at Mountaineering Wing should carry the requisite document such as proper authority letter/movement order along with the personal bio-data as per records maintained in the service book. Trainees should also bring with them medical fitness certificate and Identity card. The trainees are required to undergo out door exercise for which they should bring with them two pairs of rough dress and shoes for trekking. Similarly, trainees are required to attend morning PT/ Yoga for which suitable PT dress/ cloths should be there. Eligibility to attend the Course:- Personnel detailed to undergo this course should meet the Following criteria. a. Age:- Below 40 years. b. Educational Qualification:- Matric & above. c. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect and willing to undergo the course. d. Courses Done:- MATC with very good/ good grading. e. Rank :- CT and above. iii. Course Duration:- 36 days. iv. Clothing, equipment and documents:- The trainees reporting for undergoing the course at Mountaineering Wing should carry the requisite document such as proper authority letter/movement order. Trainees should also bring with them medical fitness certificate and Identity card. The trainees are required to undergo out door exercise for which they should bring with them two pairs of rough dress and shoes. Similarly, trainees are required to attend morning PT/ Yoga for which they should carry suitable dress. At the same time, trainees should carry 1 set of formal dress and Bn. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect and willing to undergo the course. d. Done Course:- MATC with very good /good grading i.e AX, AY & BX, BY. e. Rank:- CT & above. iii. Course Duration:- 36 days. iv. Clothing, equipment and documents:-

The trainees reporting for undergoing the course at Mountaineering Wing should carry the requisite document such as proper authority letter/movement order along with the personal bio-data as per records maintained in the service book. Trainees should also bring with them medical fitness certificate and Identity card. The trainees are required to undergo out door exercise for which they should bring with them two pairs of rough dress and shoes for trekking. Similarly, trainees are required to attend morning PT/ Yoga for which suitable PT dress/ cloths should be there. Aim:- To develop basic skills required in the field of Disaster Management so that they can act as first responder in the area of deployment at the time of need. ii. Eligibility to attend the Course:- Personnel detailed to undergo this course should meet the Following criteria. a. Age:- Should be physically fit and willing. b. Educational Qualification:- Matric & above. c. Medical & Physical:- Should be medically & physically fit in all respect. d. Done Course:- Should have undergone the Basic course relevant to their rank, and put in atleast 02 years of Service. e. Rank:- i). GO’s AC & above ii). SO’s ASI to Insp iii). OR’s CT to HC iii. Training Aspects:- a). BDRC for GO’s:- 18 days b). BDRC for SO’s:- 30 days c). BDRC for OR’s:- 40 days iv. Clothing, equipment and documents:- The trainees reporting for undergoing the course at Mountaineering Wing should carry the requisite document such as proper authority letter/movement order. Trainees should also bring with them medical fitness certificate and Identity card. The trainees are required to undergo out door exercise for which they should bring with them two pairs of rough dress and shoes. Similarly, trainees are required to attend morning PT/ Yoga for which they should carry suitable dress. At the same time, trainees should carry 1 set of formal dress and Bn. Game Facilities:- The following game facilities are available at this school. i) Lawn Tennis ii) Badminton iii) Football iv) Cricket v) Volleyball vi) Gymnasium (22). Withdrawal & Relegation policy:- As per the directions of FHQ SSB issued from time to time. (23). Other Administrative Directives e.g Leave, Marriage, Conduct. No leave will be granted to any trainee during the training period except on extreme compassionate/compelling grounds like death in family. Trainee who miss more than 10 % of the total Course duration will be returned to unit (RTU). (24). Return Journey/Dispersal:- Since the date of completion of each course is known well in advance the trainees traveling by train should make their own arrangements for their return journey. (25). Important Trains & Bus Timings:- Train service is not available at Gwaldam. However regular Bus /Taxis are available from Gwaldam to Kathgodam/Rishikesh the nearest Railway Stations.
