There is a more extensive range of shopping, recreational and educational facilities in Colchester including Holmwood House prep school, Colchester Royal Grammar School and Colchester County High School for Girls. Kelvedon is also in the catchment area for King Edward VI Grammar School and County High School for Girls in Chelmsford. For the commuter, Bridgefoot House is within walking distance of Kelvedon mainline station and has easy access onto the A12. Description Bridgefoot House is listed as being of Architectural or Historical Interest Grade II* and is believed to date from the 15th and 16th centuries with later alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Constructed of timber frame with plastered elevations under a tiled roof, the house is mentioned in Nikolaus Pevsner’s authoritative book “The Buildings of - Essex”. Whilst the house has been in the same ownership for the last 42 years, it has most recently been (temporarily) divided into two properties, with one side generating a strong and stable rental income. The property contains many of the period features associated with this age of property including lovely old fireplaces and panelling in the principal, elegant reception rooms on the ground floor. The drawing room overlooks the rear garden, with a wide arched red-brick fireplace above which, painted on plaster, is believed to be a late 16th century text from the Geneva Bible. The dining room has part-panelled walls and a red-brick fireplace overlooking the front garden, and the sitting room is part- panelled along one wall. A particular feature of the house is the Grade II listed barn with a crownpost vaulted ceiling incorporated into the main house off the kitchen and breakfast room which itself has a feature raised glazed ceiling. The barn comprises a galleried living room with a 27ft ceiling height and a large central Roca circular wood burner, glazed on all sides. Off the living room is a bedroom with an en suite shower room and a staircase to a second bedroom with a gallery landing overlooking the living room. This makes ideal guest accommodation or annexe. On the first floor of the house is a master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, a guest suite, four further bedrooms and a family bathroom. A staircase leads up to the second floor to two attic bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom.
