The nine-time Grammy-winning Kings of Texas swing are coming to Burleson for the Fourth of July!

Asleep at the Wheel will kick off the City of Burleson’s Independence Day Celebration at the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. The gates to Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex, 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy., will open at 5 p.m. The concert kicks off at 7:30 p.m. The band will be set up in the field just to the right of the arched entrance to the sports complex. will play until the lights go down for the fireworks show that is set to begin after 9:20 p.m. The show consists of both traditional and low aerial firework displays.

Admission to the City’s Independence Day celebration is free.

Patrons may sit on the field surrounding the stage, in the bleachers and on most of the fields throughout the park. The concession stand will be open but patrons may also bring a picnic and beverages. No alcohol, glass bottles, pets, tents or canopies are permitted in the park. Fireworks, including sparklers, are also not permitted.

Asleep at the Wheel band members include Ray Benson, vocals, electric guitar and acoustic guitar; Dan Walton, piano; Jason Roberts, vocals, mandolin and fiddle; David Sanger, drums; David Miller, vocals and bass; Eddie Rivers, saxophone and pedal steel; and Elizabeth McQueen, acoustic guitar and vocals.

The most recently released CD is the 2010 “It’s A Good Day,” on which Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel teamed up with famed Texas Playboy vocalist Leon Rausch. Asleep at the Wheel has been playing for more than 40 years and turned out 25-plus CDs. The band has also done an acclaimed musical play, “A Ride with Bob” starring Benson as himself as he encounters the ghost of on a tour bus. The band has also collaborated with and toured with and Ray Price.
