Cornish Supper & Charity Auction Cornish Supper & Charity Auction In aid of RABI and Addington Fund Friday 6th June 2014 At the Royal Cornwall Show, Wadebridge, Cornwall, PL27 7JE (Cornish Mutual Stand 291) Cornish Supper at 6.00pm Auction at 7.00pm conducted by Edward Buckland FOREWORD Edward Buckland Auctioneers, Cornish Mutual, Francis Clark and Barclays Bank have united to host this event in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and the Addington Fund and it goes without saying that both charities perform a vital role within the rural community discreetly providing help and assistance to those in times of great need. The proceeds of this event will be match funded by Barclays Bank. There will be a prize raffle on the evening with all proceeds being raised for the Farming Community Network (FCN). Please dig deep and help us raise money for these three great causes. We had not planned to come back so soon, but we got so much fan mail and such a great reaction that I thought ‘Well, why not.     Explore Cardinham - Hwithrewgh Kardhinan Location Welcome to the Parish of Cardinham which nestles on the southwestern edge of Bodmin Moor to the north east of Bodmin. It is one of the largest in Cornwall with a boundary of about 26 miles enclosing 9612 acres of land and 22 acres of water, and has a population approaching 600, mostly concentrated in Cardinham village around St. Meubred’s Church and in the nearby hamlet of Millpool about 1½ miles to the north, as well as scattered in farms, houses and cottages in the Parish. The area boasts several Holy Wells and Monuments, and some fine ancient crosses notably in St Meubred’s churchyard, and at Deviock and Treslea. There is a small airfield at Cardinham which is home to the Cornwall Flying Club. Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks and rides through beautiful countryside on the Moor and in Cardinham, Laneskin, Leball and Cabilla Woods. History Cardinham comes from the Cornish “Car” or “Caer” meaning “enclosure” or “fort,” and “dinas” also a “fortress.” Cardinham Castle was built in 1080 to the motte and bailey design on White Hill southeast of the Church by the Sheriff of Cornwall for the then Earl of Cornwall, Robert de Mortain who was William the Conqueror’s half- brother. Not content with the estates he already owned after the Norman Conquest of 1066 he also seized much of the land in the Parish which had formally belonged to Bodmin Priory. This was very unpopular with the local moorland folk so he built the castle to keep them subdued.

    Minor Village Development Boundaries Supplementary Planning Guidance November 2001 NORTH CORNWALL DISTRICT COUNCIL FOREWORD The current Local Plan for North Cornwall was adopted in April 1999. As part of the process a Public Local Inquiry was held and the subsequent report by an independent inspector made a number of recommendations to the District Council. One of the more significant was the need to define development boundaries around 62 of the smaller villages throughout North Cornwall. The Council gave a commitment to address this issue which it did during 2000/2001. During the summer of 2001 the Council produced a ‘First Deposit Draft’ version of the minor village development boundaries for consultation. A total of 125 representations were received from members of the public, statutory consultees and the Parish and Town Councils. The Council carefully considered all of these representations in November 2001, together with the future direction of the Local Plan. Various changes were made in response to the representations and the Council proceeded to adopt the revised development boundaries around the minor villages as supplementary planning guidance. As supplementary planning guidance the development boundaries will not form part of the Local Plan, but they will be taken into account in assessing planning applications as a material consideration. I fully endorse the adoption of these boundaries as supplementary planning guidance as they will provide the basis for consistent and fair decisions in relation to development proposals affecting minor villages, as well as providing greater certainty.   • Application on Behalf of Cornwall Council and Caradon Observatory for Bodmin Moor to Be Considered As an International Dark Sky Landscape
    1 Executive Summary Bodmin Moor is a special place. Amongst the many environmental designations ranging from the international to the local, Bodmin Moor forms part of an Area of Outstanding Beauty. This means it benefits from the same planning status and protection as English National Parks. Visitors are already drawn to the dramatic panoramas, varied wildlife and intriguing history, with those already in the know also appreciating and learning about the stars in the exceptionally dark night sky. Caradon Observatory readings taken in and around Bodmin Moor quantify the remarkable quality of the sky’s darkness and correspond with the findings of the Campaign to Protect Rural England Night Blight study. The results show that even around the villages there are impressive views of the night sky. There is considerable support from the public and stakeholder organisations for the establishment of Bodmin Moor as an International Dark Sky Landscape with “Park” status. Feedback from residents, businesses, landowners, farmers, astronomers, educators, environmental bodies and other statutory and charitable organisations has helped shape the proposals. Enthusiasm is such that there have already been calls to widen the buffer zone if the designation is successful. The alternative title for the designation stems from local feedback and reflects the AONB status. Bodmin Moor comprises a varied moorland landscape with a few small villages and hamlets so there is very little artificial light. Nevertheless, steps have been taken and are continuing to be made to reduce light pollution, particularly from streets. This means that the vast majority of lighting is sensitive to the dark night sky and is becoming even more sympathetic.
