MIC members warn Samy Vellu: Bahan asal dari Arkib We'll Negara Malaysia strike back KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. — Several dis- satisfied MIC. members are planning to strike back at party president Datuk S. Samy Vellu through the co-operative he founded, Koperasi Pekerja Jaya. Selangor MIC sources said the members, including several supporters of suspended party vice-chairman V. Govindaraj, want to ask the National and Rural Develop- ment Ministry to investigate alleged irregu- larities in the co-operative. They are preparing statements and re- ceipts to substantiate their allegations and will present them to the Minister, Datuk Sanusi Junid. Their move comes in the wake of the statement by Datuk Samy Vellu that about 1,500 MIC officials from more than 300 branches would be given show cause letters for not holding meetings regularly or for the delay in preparing their annual accounts. The sources said some of the members believe that they would be victims in Datuk Samy Vellu's crackdown and hope to get back at him through the co-operative, of which he is still the president They said the members are saying; "Why pick on us when the co-operative took three years to prepare their accounts for 1976, 1977 and 1979 "The co-operative has paid workers to do the accounts compared with MIC bran- ches whose officials are only doing it on a part-time basis." The dissatisfied members claim that they arc only doing what Datuk Sanusi has urged co-operative members to do — expose any wrong dealings in the organisation. In a related develop- ment, the former acting Selangor MIC Youth chief S. Sivaratnam said the par- ty was adopting double standards when it dissolved the State Youth committee "Two MIC members, Mr N.P. Subramaniam and Mr M. Anthinasamy, issued statements without the prior approval of their State committees but were not penalised for their ac- tions. Why should I be dis- criminated against?'' he asked. Mr Sivaratnam also claims that the action by the Selangor MIC execu- tive committee in dissolving the Youth wing for making statements in defence of Mr Govindaraj is unconstitu- tional . ''Selangor MIC acting chairman P. Krishnan or the State exco should get the approval of the State congress committee before it can dissolve our commit- tee,'' said Mr Sivaratnam, who claims he is still the acting Youth leader. Mr Sivaratnam also told reporters that there was no need for him to consult the acting State chairman or the State exco before mak- ing the statements. All that was needed, he said, was for him to get the mandate of the Youth committee. .
