Nabod Gwenallt Chwaraeon CABANAU BONTGOCH Mae un o’r cwmnïau mwyaf sy’n cynllunio ac adeiladu cabanau coed ym Mhrydain wedi ei leoli ym Montgoch. Mae gan berchnogion y cwmni - Log Cabin UK - Matt Young ac Ian Lawton brofiad sylweddol mewn coedwigaeth. Graddiodd y ddau mewn Gwyddor Tir a Rheolaeth Cefn Gwlad ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth yn 1999 ac wedyn aethant i’r Ffindir i ddysgu mhellach am blannu a chynaeafu coedwigoedd. Mae cabanau coed yn hynod o boblogaidd yn y Ffindir ac wrth eu gweld ymhob gardd gefn bron sylweddolodd Matt ac Ian fod ‘na gyfleoedd i ddatblygu yr un math o adeiladwaith yma. Roedd y ddau eisoes wedi ymgartrefu yn yr ardal ac yn ymwybodol fod Cymru’n debyg i’r Ffindir mewn un ffordd allweddol - roedd ‘na ddigonedd o ddeunydd crai i adeiladu’r cabanau ar gael yn y coedwigoedd cyfagos. Sefydlwyd y cwmni yn 2002 a buan y cafwyd y comisiwn cyntaf, adeilad mae llawer ohonom wedi cerdded drwyddo, sef y cabanau derbyn a chroeso yn y Gerddi Botaneg Cenedlaethol yn Nyffryn Tywi. Roedd y cabanau hyn yn hysbyseb ardderchog a arweiniodd at ymholiadau ac Chwith i’r dde – Ian Lawton a Matt Young archebion o bob rhan o Brydain. Bellach mae’r cwmni wedi cwblhau amrywiaeth o waith - canolfan mewn hosbis yn Blackpool, caban mewn gardd yn Aberystwyth a thñ byw yng amgylchedd ond mae Matt yn cydnabod bod hyn yn Nghaer. Ar raddfa dipyn mwy mae’r cwmni nawr yn gweithio dibynnu’n helaeth ar y safle - mae caban neu dy coed yn ar ganolfan gymunedol/addysgol i drigolion Penygam gweddu’n berffaith i safle yng nghefn gwlad neu goedwig ond Pontypãl - adeilad a ariannwyd gan y Gronfa Loteri ac a fydd prin y gellid dweud yr un peth am safle yn swbwrbia yn cynnig neuadd bentref ac ystafell dechnoleg gwybodaeth i Caerdydd! Y fantais fwyaf wrth gwrs yw bod y cabanau wedi drigolion y pentref. Y gwaith mwyaf hyd yn hyn yw Canolfan eu hadeiladu o ddefnyddiau naturiol, adnewyddol. Mae’r Addysg Agored ar lan Windermere yn ardal y llynnoedd - cwmni yn gyson chwilio am goed lleol ac ar adeg ymweliad adeilad sylweddol o 170 medr sgwâr a gomisynnwyd gan Papur Pawb â’r safle roeddent newydd dderbyn llwyth o Gyngor Sir Caerhirfryn. Bu’r ymateb yn hynod o galonogol a Douglas Fir o Gwm Nant yr Arian. Beth bynnag yw’r coed - nawr mae’r cwmni wedi derbyn comisiwn i godi canolfan cedrwydden neu larwydden neu’r Douglas Fir - rhaid i’r breswyl gerllaw. goeden fod tua hanner can mlwydd oed ac yn hir a syth i roi’r Yn ôl Matt Young mae’r cwmni yn gweithio mewn dwy darnau addas i’r cabanau a’r tai. ffordd. Gall y cwsmer archebu caban neu dñ parod fel petai ac Cwmni cymharol fychan yw Log Cabin UK hyd yn hyn ond fe fydd holl rannau hwnnw wedyn yn cael eu paratoi gan yn ystod cyfnodau adeiladu maent yn cyflogi gweithwyr chwaer gwmni yn y Ffindir, eu rhoi ar gefn lori enfawr a’u ychwanegol ac mae trosiant y cwmni wedi cynyddu’n cludo dros For y Gogledd i’r safle ym Mhrydain. Yn yr ail sylweddol ers ei sefydlu saith mlynedd yn ôl. Mae Matt ac Ian ddull, cwmni Bontgoch sy’n gyfrifol am y cyfan - trafod y yn glir fod cyfleodd i ddatblygu eto a’r cam nesa yw adeiladu cynllun gyda’r cwsmer, cyflwyno cais cynllunio, paratoi’r caban ar y safle uwchben Bontgoch fel y bo modd i darnau a rhoi’r cwbl at ei gilydd. P’un bynnag ffordd a gwsmeriaid weld a chael profiad uniongyrchol o’r ddewisir mae ‘na fanteision amlwg – proses adeiladu cyflym adeiladwaith. Llongyfarchiadau i’r ddau am eu gweledigaeth i gyda’r gwaith yn cael ei gwblhau mewn dau neu dri mis i greu sefydlu busnes llwyddiannus yn ucheldir gogledd Ceredigion. adeilad sy’n hynod o effeithiol o ran gwresogi a chynnal a Gallwch ddysgu mwy am y cwmni drwy ymweld â’i gwefan ar chadw. The Relationship between Iron Age Hill Forts, Roman Settlements and Metallurgy on the Atlantic Fringe Keith Haylock BSc Department of Geography and Earth Sciences Supervisors Professor John Grattan, Professor Henry Lamb and Dr Toby Driver Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the award of degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Aberystwyth University 2015 0 Abstract This thesis presents geochemical records of metalliferous enrichment of soils and isotope analysis of metal finds at Iron Age and Romano-British period settlements in North Ceredigion, Mid Wales, UK. The research sets out to explore whether North Ceredigion’s Iron Age sites had similar metal-production functions to other sites along the Atlantic fringe. Six sites were surveyed using portable x-ray fluorescence (pXRF), a previously unused method in the archaeology of Mid Wales. Also tested was the pXRF (Niton XLt700 pXRF) with regard to how environmentally driven matrix effects may alter its in situ analyses results. Portable x-ray fluorescence was further used to analyse testing a range of certified reference materials (CRM) and site samples to assess target elements (Pb, Cu, Zn and Fe) for comparative accuracy and precision against Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for both in situ and laboratory sampling. At Castell Grogwynion, one of the Iron Age sites surveyed recorded > 20 times Pb enrichment compared to back ground values of 110 ppm. Further geophysical surveys confirmed that high dipolar signals correlated to the pXRF Pb hotspots were similar to other known Iron Age and Roman period smelting sites, but the subsequent excavation only unearthed broken pottery and other waste midden development.

The area drained by these rivers is of exceptional conservation value, particularly around the internationally important estuary, which has a Site of Special Scientific Interest designated as one of only three Biosphere Reserves in the UK.
