BIOGRAPHY TOBIAS CORTS – DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Tobias Corts is an award-winning Director of Photography and Cameraman, who lives in Munich, Germany.

During his career as a cinematographer he has completed more than 50 documentaries for renown international networks as the BBC, National Geographic, PBS and , also a for public German TV stations as ZDF, BR/ARTE and ARD.

After high-school diploma in Rosenheim, Germany, Tobias Corts studied at the School of Audio Engineering in Munich and finished his education as first camera assistent at ARRI Headquarters, Munich. He studied and light in the United States at „THE MAINE WORKSHOPS“.

In 2013 he completed his first feature film „Der blinde Fleck“ as Director of Photography.

Richard Ladkani, Director and Cinematographer himself and Tobias Corts first met in 2002 to shoot the awarded series of the „Monasteries of the Danube River“ and the awarded documentary „The Devil´s Miner“ in 2005.

The filmproject „Lost Mummies of New Guinea“ a co-operation between Ian Kerr and Tobias Corts in 2011 for National Georgraphic was awarded with an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography in News Coverage/Documentary.

„Zu Gast im Ikarus“ brought together the team of Nikolaus Summerer and Tobias Corts. The duo visually piloted the renown series for Servus TV from 2012-2013. The showrunner and director of the first 2 seasons was Austrian Director Sven Jansel, Edgelight GmbH.

The feature-film „Der blinde Fleck“ was awarded in 2013 with the Bernhardt-Wicki Nachwuchspreis – Die Brücke and was nominated for the Max-Opühls-Preis in 2013.

„Drawing against Oblivion“ won a Gold Medal – Camera in Documentary at New York Film Festival in 2014 and was nominated at Camerimage Film Festival in Poland for Golden Frog – Best Camera in Documentary Feature length in 2015. The feature length documentary was produced by David Kunac, Final Frame.

“ a big budget documentary produced by Leonardo Di Caprio and Terra Mater Factual Studios for cinema is another project that brought back together the duo of Richard Ladkani and Tobias Corts. An explosiv film that won numerous prices around the world and opened and won the „Beijing International Film Festival“ in 2017. It is a documentary about the illegal ivory trade in Africa, produced as a „Netflix Original“ by Terra Mater Factual Studios.

Oliver Halmburger and Tobias Corts are specialized in re-enactments for the well known ZDF series TerraX and History. Their projects „Die verdammte Mauer“ and „Wettlauf zum Südpol“ are both worldwide nominated like the well known „Deutscher Fernsehpreis“ in 2011. In 2019 the duo came together to film two more documentarys. „Geheimnissvolles Schloss Neuschwanstein“ for public channel BR and „Herrscher im Morgenland – Terra X“ for public channel ZDF.

„Seenflimmern“ and „Der Böhmerwald“ are two very succesfull documentary series and just two of numerous projects of another renown team. In 2019/2020 Lisa Eder-Held and Tobias Corts finished their first feature length documentary „50 Jahre Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald“. It will soon be released in Cinemas around Europe. More projects are to come.

„Einen Sommer lang“ produced, shot and edited by Georg Michael-Fischer and Tobias Corts premiered at the DocFilmFest München 2018. This feature length documentary was self financed through Georg- Michael Fischer and Tobias Corts and is just one of numerous collaborations of this very successful team.

„Sea of Shadows“ is the latest project of Richard Ladkani, Leonardo Di Caprio/Terra Mater Factual Studios, Georg-Michael Fischer and Tobias Corts. It is a feature documentary thriller that follows undercover investigators, environmentalists and the mexican navy on their desperate last-minute effort to rescue the Earth`s smallest whale – the Vaquita – from extiction. At 2019 „Sea of Shadows“ won the Sundance Audience Award for World Cinema Documentary and many more prices. „Amazonia“ a follow up project produced by „Appian Way Productions and Malaika Pictures“ is in developemt and going to be filmed in 2020/2021 in Barzil.

After Season 1 of „Dark – Netflix Original“ and „Deutscher Kamera Preis 2015“ for „Who am I?“, Nikolaus Summerer called in Tobias Corts to take over Second-Camera on „Dark – Netflix Original“ Season 2 for the last block in 2018.
