Rosy Look stepped up and talked about her “bucket list” travels to Morocco in 2009, organized through Intrepid Journeys. Her PowerPoint presentation and her tales about the people, the villages, culture, Roman ruins, temples, doorways, mosaics, food, brass and silver work, carpets and camel riding in the desert were fascinating. We ran out of time for her to finish but we are keen to hear more at a future Club day. Thanks Rosy. CLUB OUTING Bus Trip to Whanganui Contact: Owen 358 1964 or 021 2314155 Wednesday 18th March. We will leave the Waldegrave car park at 8:30am, please be on the bus by then. Our first stop will be at Kowhai Park for a toilet stop and morning tea – please bring your own hot water and cup; the club will provide tea, coffee, milk, biscuits etc. We will then move on to the Tram Shed for a tram ride booked for 10:00am. Then to the Chronicle Glass Studio. Lunch will be at Stellars. After lunch we will visit Virginia Lake and then Ratana Temple. We should return to Waldegrave car park by 5:00pm. The cost is $45 each and needs to be paid to Richard on Club Day (please put money in an envelope with your name and “bus trip” on it). There are a few spare seats if you have a friend who would like to come. Club Car Rally - advance notice - this is being planned for the last Sunday in April (26th). Once again Ron and Lorna King are organising a fun time, with afternoon tea and prizes when we reach our destination. INTEREST GROUPS Craft interest group Contact: Pam 353 0309 Monday 9th March, 1.30 p.m. We will be meeting at Susan’s home, 25 Pirie Street. We are going to be shown how to make ‘fabric petal’ flowers, which will be fun. All material will be provided, but you might like to bring your favourite little pair of scissors, and a sewing needle, although that’s not essential. Look forward to seeing you there. Come and try something new. Please note: As from April, we will be meeting on the Monday AFTER club day, at various venues. More information of what we will be doing in April will be in the next newsletter. Memoir Writing Group: Contact: Renetta 357 2225 Thursday March 12th, 1.30 pm. The group will meet at 11 Lorenzo Place, Kelvin Grove. The topic will be ‘Child/Youth interests” (Clubs/Scouts/Girl Guides etc). On Thursday 9 April 1.30pm the meeting will be at John Francis' home, 34 Buick Cres. The topic is ‘Sports’ (ones we played/participated or enjoyed watching). Dining Out: Contact: Glenne 355 1129 Thursday 26th March at 6pm. Zest Restaurant, Ruahine Street (opp the hospital). Coffee Group: Contact: Shirley 357 9570 Sunday 29th at 2-30pm. Join us at the Cafe Esplanade. Everyone welcome. Petanque: Contact: Derrick 357 6630 Every Friday morning at 10am. Join us at the Manawatu Petanque Club, adjacent to the Northern Bowling Club. Start with morning tea and enjoy a morning of fellowship and fun for only $3 per person. Garden Outing Contact: Owen 358 1964 or 021 2314155 March’s garden outing is combined with the trip to Whanganui on 18 March. April’s visit will be to Olive Tree Village on 15 April at 2pm. Theatre/Movies Group Contact: Elaine 3576765 Wednesday 25 March. The next Daytime Concert should have general appeal, titled “Memories are made of this....” it includes songs to commemorate the centenary of Anzac and covers the period to the end of the Second World War. The cast includes local performer Karl Perigo. Names will be taken for our group booking at the March club meeting. If you are not at this meeting and received your newsletter later and wish to join the group, please ring me so I can add your name to the list. The same applies to the movie at the end of the month, title as yet unknown. FROM YOUR COMMITTEE: The Sales Table/Bring and Buy. Please continue to bring your surplus produce (fruit, vegies, plants, cut flowers etc.), magazines, books, baking for sale. Knitting wool and cotton fabric are appreciated as some of our ladies knit and sew for charities. We appreciate the generosity of donators and buyers. Management Committee Thank you to those who are stepping down from the Management Committee – Marion Jensen, Susan Munford and Pam Pomfrett. Thanks also to Rangi Royal who is stepping down from the President’s role. All of you have given of your time and talents. Your commitment and dedication to our club has been greatly appreciated. The 2015 Team to be voted in at the AGM are: President Robin Fabian, Vice President Derrick Goodwin , Secretary Allain Scott, Treasurer Richard Scott. Newsletter - A three month trial period (March – May) of issuing our newsletter at the Club meeting is under way. If you wish to have your newsletter emailed a few days earlier, please email Allain Scott (Club Secretary) [email protected] and your email address will be added to the database. Members will continue to be issued with a printed copy at the Club meeting. Subscriptions for 2015: The subscription for this year will be decided at the AGM. Subscriptions will then be due and should be paid at the April Club meeting or before the June Club meeting to ensure you remain a current member.
