New York Marathon Canoe Race Association (NYMCRA), the Adirondack Watershed Alliance and Wenonah have teamed up to make it easier to get people in Kevlar boats this season. MAC’S has again offered to bring a trailer load of solo, tandem and C-4 Stock class Wenonah Kevlar Canoes to selected NYMCRA Canoe Points Race Series events across the empire state this season. The schedule of paddle sport events AWA will attend: May 12 – Round the Mountain Canoe Race , June 2 – Tupper Lake 8 Mile, June 9 &10 – Madrid Canoe Regatta, July 7 – Armond Bassett Canoe and Kayak Race - Rochester, July 14– Schenectady - Electric City, July 15 - Barge Chaser

The long Wenonah 4 canoes make introductions to the sport a lot of fun. Working with the long boat fleet from MAC’S Canoe Livery, we will make sure folks have fun while contributing their time and physical power to stewardship activities, and we will have boats on hand at our events to provide people an opportunity to give the sport of paddling a try.

June is Celebrate Paddling Month in Saranac Lake To help you get on the water, several outfitters and organizations in the Saranac Lake region have teamed up to offer a variety of paddling-related activities and events. More Stewardship Opportunities in 2018

AWA volunteers annually work on erosion control and bank stabilization efforts, tree planting, campsite enhancement and garbage removal projects along the 90 mile canoe route. Through the AWA, the paddling community has a significant opportunity to fill a widening void in the ability of the DEC to maintain the forest preserve lands. The AWA plans to further strengthen its connection with the DEC and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail and meet two of our organizational principles of developing a stewardship network and providing outdoor employment. Increases in AWA membership, corporate sponsorship and specified stewardship contributions will allow us to support much needed infrastructure improvements in the areas we play in. We encourage you to contact the AWA office with your ideas for projects, or to support our stewardship goals.

Thinking of real estate in the Adirondacks? See GRACE MCDONNELL

I have some great news; I have obtained my State Real Estate Agent’s License. I have been interested in real estate for some time. With Royal off to college and the old man driving me crazy….now was a good time to branch out. I have landed at Guide Boat Realty in Saranac Lake and this is what my broker has to say: "Grace's friendly nature, love of the outdoors, and work ethic are a good fit for a salesperson at Guide Boat Realty." said broker/owner Chris Covert. "Please contact Grace if you would like guidance in selling or buying your place in the Adirondacks."

Please keep me in mind when thinking about real estate and please spread the word.

Cheers, Grace McDonnell

KEITH BRAUN Joins MAC’S Canoe Livery Leadership Team

Keith joined the Mac’s team in the spring of 2018. Born and raised in the greater Philadelphia, PA area, Keith moved to the Adirondacks in 2006 to pursue an education in outdoor recreation from Paul Smith’s College. After his time as a student, Keith devoted eight years to introducing the Adirondacks to young people through the admissions office at PSC. His passion for the outdoors started at a young age and evolved into several successful years managing outdoor excursions and canoe treks northeastern Pennsylvania. Keith is excited to be back outside, and part of the Mac’s team.

90 Miler Entry Forms to go in US Mail in mid June

We have had an incredible response to the publicity the Adirondack Canoe Classic has received in the past year. Record numbers of new inquiries continue to come in via email, phone and the post office. Our entry procedure will remain the same as in past years. We will mail out applications via US Mail to people who have recently inquired and to the people who have participated in the 90 in the past three years. The entry deadline will be July 20. Should we have more than 250 teams interested in signing up, we will go to a weighted lottery. The weighted lottery is tipped in favor of those who have participated in the 90 Miler for 10 or more years. This is not a first come, first served system, so you do not have to send in your application via express mail (unless of course you wait until the last minute!)

AWA recruiting Adirondack Canoe Classic volunteers for the 90 Miler.

The 90 miler has always depended on a very solid group of volunteers to make the event happen. Faces change, but the reaction of the participants stays the same in recognition of the hard work, dedication and significant contributions individuals and organized groups contribute to the coordination of the 90 Miler. If you, your family or civic organization would like to assist – please get in touch with Director of Volunteers Keith Braun at the AWA office. Let us know your skills and interests and we will work with you to develop a meaningful role at the 2018 Adirondack Canoe Classic.
