> Marion Hufana sebastian Director of Music Mario H. Sebastian, Director of Music Elk Grove High School, was born in the Philippines and came to the United States of America in 1983. He graduated from California State University Sacramento and holds a Masters in Education, Administration credential, and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree in percussion and holds his teaching credential in music education. At Elk Grove High School, he teaches Jazz Band, Beginning Guitar, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Guard, and Choir. Before Elk Grove High School his past teaching career was the Percussion & Assistant Director at Granite Bay High School Band, Choir and Band Director at Glen Edwards Middle School, and was Band Director at Warren T. Eich Intermediate. Mario is a percussionist for local bands and has played orchestral/world percussion for the Sacramento Choral Society, Sacramento Masters Singers, Sacramento Philharmonic, Boston Pops Orchestra (SCS Tour), Sacramento Ballet, and Music Circus Broadway Series. Mario was awarded “Outstanding New Band Director of the Year in 2006 from Northern California Band Association (NCBA). In 2010, Mr. Sebastian was selected as guest conductor for the Western Slopes Honor Band. With Mr. Sebastian’s Leadership, Elk Grove High School Music Department has been awarded 2008 & 2009 Best Marching Band Guard for Sacramento Magazine, Best Marching Band for 2009, 2010, & 2011 Best of Elk Grove Magazine, and Best Marching Band & Guard 2011 for Sacramento News and Review. They have performed for Disney Magic Music Days and San Diego Holiday Bowl in 2010. Elk Grove High School host the Annual Herd Winter Review competition in winter percussion, winter guard, Drum Major “L” pattern, and conducting competition. It is one of the largest NCBA winter competition in the Sacramento region. In February of 2013 the Symphonic Band was invited to perform at the 2015 New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall and will perform on April 7th, 2015. He has studied at the CSUS summer conducting workshops with Dr. Robert Halseth, Jack Stamp, Stan DeRusha, and Dr. Mallory Thompson. Mario is a current member of Northern California Band Association, California Music Education Association, and California Band Director Association. He is the Band Rep working with prestigious college conductors and Administrator for the CMEA Capital Section Honor Band since 2009 and has worked with Dr. Tim Smith, Bob Ponto, Dr. Royce Tevis, Dr. Stuart Sims, and Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque, Dr. Tony Mazaferro, and Dr. Edward Harris. His performing groups at Elk Grove High School have received Outstanding and Superior ratings at festivals and competitions. Jazz Credits Rock, jazz, and pop credits playing world & Latin percussion: Slim Man, Steve Oliver, Mombo Hernandez, Steve Curtis Chapman, Twila Paris, Crystal Lewis, Joe Gilman, The Mind Club, Ivan Najera, Tony Windle, Ben Luco, and Nate Marceu. Shealley Gumiran Front Ensemble Tech/Arranger & Percussion Director Shealley Gumiran is a front ensemble educator from the Northern California area, a native to the area where she developed her percussion skills in high school. Since then she has dedicated herself to the percussive arts for 14 years. Shealley has been a clinician and front ensemble technician for schools such as Folsom, Stagg, East Union, Elk Grove, as well as the Sacramento State Marching Band, to name a few. In addition, she has arranged for such high schools as Armijo, Stagg, East Union, Reno, Folsom, Elk Grove, Fairfield, and as well as the Sacramento State Winter Percussion Ensemble. Shealley was also involved in the WGI and DCI community as a marching member. She was a member of the Seattle Cascades in 2000, (Div III Champions) 2001(Div II Silver medalists & High Percussion), 2002 (Div I top 12 finalists). During that time, the corps rose from Division III champions to Division I finalists. Shealley received the Rod Stubbs award in 2001 for exemplary performance as a Cascade both on and off the field. She was also a member of the Sacramento Freelancers Front Ensemble from 2000-2002, in which the group scored 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, at the WGI World Championships in PIW. As a non-marching member Shealley has been involved with the teaching the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps as a front ensemble technician since 2007. She is actively touring with the group who competes at the DCI World Championships every year as a World Class Drum Corps. Shealley is proud to help keep the drum corps activity alive and well in the Northwest. Shealley currently teaches Fairfield High School, where she is the cocaption head, front ensemble tech, and front ensemble arranger. She is also the percussion director, front ensemble tech, and arranger for the Elk Grove High School percussion ensemble. In 2013, Elk Grove High School won the NCBA Scholastic Division. In addition, she gives private lessons, helping her students get accepted into Drum Corps and collegiate music programs. Shealley also joined the staff of the eNVision Performing Arts Ensemble for the 2014 season. They will be competing at the WGI World Championships in the Independent A Class. Shealley is a proud educator of the performing arts as she is committed to the growth of young musicians and performers. Without her teachers and colleagues Ed Cloyd, Rudy Arzaga, Roger Carter, Robert Bowen, Matthew Ramey, Mike Stevens, Chris Whyte, Jim Wunderlich, Mario Sebastian, Brian Swetland, Jonno Lee, Chris Grant, Rob Lewis, Blair Williams, Don Silva, Aaron Hines, and Melissa Ruiz, she would not be where she is today Jonno Lee Battery Coordinator/Arranger Instructor Jonathan “Jonno” Lee is an accomplished musician and percussion instructor in the Northern California area. He began playing drums in the 3rd grade when he joined a local Japanese taiko drumming youth group, and soon began taking drum set lessons, in addition to joining the school band. In high school, he was introduced to the world of marching percussion, where his true passion started. After marching with the C. K. McClatchy drumline for four years and playing various instruments within the battery, he went on to join the Sacramento Mandarins, where he marched in the tenor line for four years, and was section leader his last two years. Jonno was also a member of the CSU Sacramento Marching Band, where he was a member of the snare line for two years, as well as the tenor line for one year. Jonno has a BA from CSU Sacramento in Digital Media, and a minor in Music. Jonno has performed with various major artists such as Keith Urban, Chk Chk Chk, and Brilliant Red Lights. In addition, he has been featured on the soundtrack for the video games “College Hoops 2K6,” “Tony Hawk’s Proving Grounds,” and “FIFA 08.” Jonno is now an active percussion instructor and clinician in the Northern California area. Since 2005, he has taught and given clinics at schools such as Elk Grove, Fairfield, Armijo, Pleasant Grove, Laguna Creek, VAPAC, McClatchy, and Benicia Middle. Currently, he is the battery coordinator/arranger for Elk Grove High School, and the battery coordinator/show designer for Kevin Souvannadeth Color Guard Instructor Kousonh Kevin Souvannadeth has been involved in the world of pageantry for 9 years. He started his color guard career performing with the VAPAC (Visual and Performing Arts Charter) School and the McClatchy High School Color Guards. After graduating, he continued with his color guard career performing with the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps for two summers. Some of the programs he has worked with prior to joining Elk Grove High School are John Swett High School, McClatchy High School, and Cosumnes Oaks High School. This is Kevin’s second year with the Elk Grove High School Color Guard. “What I enjoy most about teaching at Elk Grove High School is that, not only am I getting support frommy students on and off the floor, but also from parents and especially, Mr. Sebastian. I’m very thankful to have this support system because it pushes me to push my students. Initially, you want to find that reciprocal trade in a music program; Elk Grove High School has that.” .
