DERBY DIOCESE:

The operates through 40 dioceses, or administrative regions, each under the oversight and care of a Diocesan , with working with lay and ordained colleagues. The Diocese of Derby consists of the City of Derby, the County of and a small area of Staffordshire. The Church of England offers its ministry to all members of the community, in this case serving a population of over one million people. Within the Diocese there are 257 parishes and 330 church buildings, served currently by approximately 135 paid clergy. About 10,000 congregants attend Church of England worship regularly. There are also 111 church schools educating 5,000 children.

Overview

Following the appointment of the Right Revd as in 2019, the Diocese of Derby has reflected on its statement of needs and the Archbishops charge, and following a period of listening and enquiry, has discerned a renewed vision for the diocese: ‘Good news for all - transforming lives: growing church, building community’

Role Purpose

Working as an intrigue part of the DM&M administrative team this post will help the diocese deliver its vision by developing and maintaining smooth administrative processes and offering responsive and proactive PA support to diocesan officers. The primary focus of the role will be around providing administrative support to those helping discerners and candidates explore vocations to ministry within the church (both lay and ordained) and also the well-being of ministers. This will include liaising with the Diocesan vocations’ teams (lay vocations & ADDO’s), sponsoring Bishop, and Ministry Division as candidates are prepared for the national selection process.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the Ordained Vocations Officer as follows: • Support the Vocations to Ordination team in all aspects of their work of discernment and selection.

• Liaise with Diocesan staff teams particularly finance and safeguarding and Bishop’s staff team to ensure that candidates papers are clear and available as necessary.

• Working with Ministry Division to ensure that correct processes are followed.

• Ensure that candidates in their Vocational discernment are dealt with in a professional and pastoral manner at all stages of the discernment process.

• Maintenance of filing system and databases ensuring that information management systems and policies are adhered to, including Social Media, GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

• Working with the DDO and the candidate’s incumbent/chaplain as well as the Cathedral and Bishop’s Staff in planning ordinations and retreats.

• Liaise with IME2 coordinator as part of the diocesan leadership pipeline process.

Support the Lay Vocations Officer as follows:

• Work closely with those exploring a vocation to lay or ordained ministry; ensuring that candidates following their vocational discernment are dealt with in a professional and pastoral manner at all stages of the discernment process.

• Maintenance of filing system and databases ensuring that information management systems and policies are adhered to, including Social Media, GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

• Liaise with the Diocesan Vocations Advisors and the enquirer’s incumbent/chaplain.

• Offer administrative support to the Setting God’s People Free (Everyday Faith) programme.

Support the Ordained Vocation Officer as Clergy Wellbeing facilitator as follows:

• Supporting the Well-being Convenors Group in all aspects of their work with Ministerial Well-being (lay and ordained). Ensuring that ministers are dealt with in a professional, sympathetic and pastoral manner at all times.

• Liaise with St Luke’s/ Clergy Support Trust to ensure resources are up to date.

• Ensuring up to date records are kept and maintain current filing system

• Ensuring current policies are adhered to, including Social Media, GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

Support the Ordained Vocation Officer as MDR coordinator as follows:

• Supporting the Well-being Convenors Group in all aspects of their work with Ministerial Well-being (lay and ordained). Ensuring that ministers are dealt with in a professional, sympathetic and pastoral manner • To support other areas of administration within the team as from time to time becomes necessary.

• To undertake as requested any other duties commensurate with the post.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Salary £ 9,733 per annum

Pension Based on Auto Enrollment qualifying criteria employer contributions equivalent to 10% of the gross salary into an approved personal pension plan, paid monthly. If the Church workers pension fund is selected 9.5 % of the gross salary will be paid into the pension fund and .5% will be paid to life insurance.

Hours of work Monday to Friday (Flexible) – Wednesday AM core hours. Home working is currently in place in line with government guidance

Holidays 25 days paid leave plus statutory public holidays and any such additional days as agreed by the Company (currently 5 days). Pro rata for part time workers.

Probation Six months, during which time progress is regularly reviewed. The period may be period extended.

Evening and From time to time there will be the requirement to attend meetings during the evenings Weekend and at weekends. Time off in lieu will be given for any additional hours worked. working

The Diocese of Derby intends to review job descriptions annually as part of the staff review process, to ensure that they relate to the role as then being performed or to incorporate whatever reasonable changes that have occurred over time or are being proposed. This review will be carried out by the line manager in consultation with the post-holder before any changes are implemented. The post-holder is expected to participate fully in such discussions and implementation.
