People of Pittsburgh - Are you ready for your “close up?” July 24 - 29

Long before billion-dollar blockbusters and 3-D Imax was the golden age of Hollywood. It was a time when the films of the “silent” age were left behind to gather dust as “talkies” took over. Also left behind was one-time silent film star Norma Desmond. She now spends her days dreaming of an era gone by in a house that doubles as her prison. Enter charming screenwriter Joe Gillis, and everything changes - giving Norma a renewed sense of love and hope. Andrew Lloyd Webber was inspired to write Sunset Boulevard after seeing the 1950 film, but no one could have predicted how brilliantly this tragic story would translate to the stage. After its Broadway opening in 1994, starring Glenn Close, The New York Times declared it “OUTLANDISHLY GOOD.” The production was nominated for a staggering 11 Tony Awards® and went on to win eight, including Best Musical. Pittsburgh CLO is now producing this musical theater gem for the very first time, starring Broadway and Pittsburgh CLO veteran Liz Callaway as Norma Desmond. Joining her on Norma’s path to destruction are an unmatched group of Broadway’s best and Pittsburgh CLO veterans. PG, Some adult content

The cultural icon we all know as the Hollywood sign was erected in 1923 to advertise a new housing development, “HOLLYWOODLAND.” It was not until 1949, the year in which Sunset Boulevard takes place, that the new “Hollywood” sign emerged. The sign remains high atop the Hollywood hills today as a testament to the growth 412-456-6666 of the American film industry and will be a lasting symbol of classic Hollywood for generations to come! pittsburghCLO.org One “Snappy” Cast • Pittsburgh native Gaelen Gilliland will play Alice Beineke (the mother of Lucas, Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend). This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is created byJersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and Olivier Award-winning director/ designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with production supervision by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks.
