    COLE CUSTER Gearing Up for Michigan Doubleheader KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina (Aug. 4, 2020) – This weekend, Cole Custer, driver of the No. 41 HaasTooling.com/Jacob Construction Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) and his fellow NASCAR Cup Series competitors head to Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn for a doubleheader at the 2-mile track. The world’s best stock car drivers are scheduled to complete over 600 miles combined Saturday and Sunday in the backyard of manufacturer Ford, which is located approximately 65 miles northeast of the track in Dearborn. HaasTooling.com will share the No. 41 machine this weekend with Jacob Construction. Jacob adorned Custer’s Ford Mustang earlier this season at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jacob is a multifaceted firm with a focus on construction, development, design and technology services. What does that say about Renault’s ambition for next year? Cyril ABITEBOUL: Well, we always said that it would be a long-term plan but obviously there has to be some steps and some visible steps. That is the first step of the plan. There will be more development; there will be more announcements, more decisions. We have a substantial investment plan in Enstone. There are also good upgrades coming up on the engine side. So it’s all coming together. The structure is coming together. So, fairly satisfied with the way things are progressing. Inevitably the focus is now going to fall on the other seat. What do you want from that driver and would you ideally like him to be French? CA: Frankly, nationality, we don’t want to start having some tactics in terms of nationality. We want him to be fast, we want him to make some contribution to the team, just like Nico will be doing with his experience. We know he had a strong spirit and can contribute to get the team together, so the second driver should be doing exactly the same. We have a bit of time to make the decision.

    Contact: Matthew Simmons Adam Saal Bill Klingbeil SRT Motorsports - Weekend Preview - June 7 New Track Surface, New Distance Adds Speed and Drama to Pocono Travis Pastrana, Dodge Dart in Texas for GRC Event June 6, 2012, Auburn Hills, Mich. - Pocono Raceway welcomes the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend with a new racing surface and shorter race distance adding to the drama at one of the most historic and scenic tracks on the schedule. Pocono Raceway is certainly unique. Its three-turn design includes the longest frontstretch of any track in NASCAR, producing speeds in excess of 200 mph heading a relatively flat Turn 1. All three turns are different, causing headaches for crew chiefs and engineers who must find the right balance for their 3,500 lb. stock cars. Additionally, for the first time in the track’s history, the race is scheduled for 400 miles, down from 500. That adds a new wrinkle in fuel and pit strategy. Thirty-six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers tested the freshly repaved track surface at Pocono on Wednesday in preparation for this weekend’s 400. Thirty-three of them eclipsed the best practice speed from last August’s event at the 2.5-mile facility. Testing at Pocono concludes today with a morning and afternoon session. “Engineers that like fast tracks are going to love Pocono,” said SRT Motorsports engineer Howard Comstock. “The complete repave of the facility since last summer is going to lead to incredible speeds on the two-and-a-half-mile, three-turn triangle.     CLINT BOWYER Advice for Rookie Teammate Cole Custer KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina (Feb. 26, 2020) – Clint Bowyer has some interesting advice for rookie teammate Cole Custer, who makes his NASCAR Cup Series debut at his home track of Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California this weekend. The 22-year-old native of Ladera Ranch, California is Bowyer’s newest teammate at SHR joining the driver lineup that includes veterans Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola. Bowyer’s rookie year in the Cup series came in 2006 season, when he drove the No. 07 car at Richard Childress Racing. “I don’t remember any of it,” joked Bowyer. “I was sponsored by Jack Daniels and that was kind of a fog area in my life, as a matter of fact. So, first thing I would tell him is stay off of the bottle.” Bowyer actually does remember that season. “He’ll have this, the shock of looking over, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s Jeff Gordon, that’s Tony Stewart,’ and then all of a sudden I remember I’m fixing to pass Tony Stewart. ‘What is going on here?’ And, you know, and then all of a sudden I’m racing Tony Stewart! “That is a critical moment in which you need to realize you’re a rookie, realize the situation you’re in and get the hell out of Dodge or they’re going to just teach you a lesson. That will happen in his rookie season. Be ready for it. You know one or two things are going to happen. You’re going to learn from it or you’re going to bull up and you’re going to make it hard on yourself.
