Este descubrimiento llena un vacío en la distribución de la especie en el Pacífico Oriental Tropical y hace un llamado al monitoreo de la biodiversidad, lo cual puede, dado el potencial de esta costa colombiana poco estudiada, producir más e interesantes hallazgos de nuevas especies para la región, en particular, o para la ciencia, en general. The phylogeny of cassoidean gastropods is reviewed, incorporating most of the biological and palaeontological data from the literature. Several characters have been checked personally and some new data are presented and included in the cladistic analysis. The Laubierinioidea, Calyptraeoidea and Capuloidea are used as outgroups. Twenty-three apomorphies are discussed and used to define cassoid relations at the subfamily level. A classification is presented in which only three families are recognised. The Ranellidae contains the subfamilies Bursinae, Cymatiinae and Ranellinae. The Pisanianurinae is removed from the Ranellidae and attributed to the Laubierinioidea.The Cassidae include the Cassinae, Oocorythinae, Phaliinae and Tonninae. Zoosystema 31 (1) : 189-198. ABSTRACT Neritopsis richeri n. sp., the fourth Recent species of a group of “living fossil” molluscs, is described from the Austral Islands (French Polynesia). Most of the material was collected during the BENTHAUS cruise. Th is species diff ers from its congeners in teleoconch sculpture, which has 1 to 4 secondary cords in the interspaces between the primary cords. Th e spiral ribs are also weakly beaded. In addition, and in contrast to the common species N. radula (Linnaeus, 1758), N. richeri n. sp. has a multispiral protoconch that implies a planktotrophic larval KEY WORDS Mollusca, development. Description and Classification of Late Triassic Neritimorpha (Gastropoda, Mollusca) from the St Cassian Formation, Italian Alps
Description and classification of Late Triassic Neritimorpha (Gastropoda, Mollusca) from the St Cassian Formation, Italian Alps KLAUS BANDEL Neritopsis represents the only surviving genus of an ancient group of the Neritimorpha that has no internal dissolution of its shell walls. While the two known living species have lecithotrophic early development without larval shell, Neritopsis aqabaensis n. sp. from the Gulf of Aqaba, Jordan, has a planktotrophic veliger. These living species of the ge- nus differ in their protoconch shape as well as teleoconch morphology and ornament from the Triassic species that can be considered related to Neritopsis. Neritopsidae with the modern Neritopsinae is distinguished from the Triassic Cassianopsinae n. subfam. based on the genus Cassianopsis n. gen. with three species by features of their protoconch as well as the different characters of the operculum. Zardiniopsis n. gen. differs from these by higher shell shape and a smaller more complexly ornamented protoconch. Fossariopsis has a more angular shell shape. Colubrellopsinae n. subfam. with Colubrellopsis n. gen. resembles Cassianopsis n. gen. in respect to protoconch and features of the aperture of the teleoconch, but the former has rounded whorls and an ornament of axial ribs. Among the Fedaiellidae n. fam. with smooth shells two species of Fedaiella are redefined. The characters of the inner lip of their aperture connect them with the Neritopsidae, whereas the operculum in the Fedaiellidae with concentric structure on the outside distinguishes them from neritopsids. In distinction to the groups of the Neritopsoidea members of the Dephinulopsidae have a smooth inner lip of the aperture. Here Delphinulopsinae and Platychilininae n. -

Prosobranch Gastropods of Guam

SMITH Marine Laboratory University of Guam Mangilao, Guam 96923 U.S.A. email: [email protected] Abstract—Based on records from invertebrate collections at the University of Guam, specimens cataloged at other institutions, and the published literature, there are 895 species of prosobranch gastropods from Guam. The vast majority of the species are marine, but terrestrial and aquatic prosobranchs are included. Most the species recorded to date are conspicuous, epibenthic species from shallow reef habitats, but some species have been taken from depths up to 400 m. Microgastropods less than 7 mm in size have been poorly investigated to date. Comparison of prosobranch gastropods from Guam and Enewetak reveal that some 56% of the species occurring at Enewetak are found in Guam. Introduction Molluscs have been collected in Guam since the arrival of the earliest inhabitants (Thompson, 1945). Despite the long history of European contact with the island, scant attention was given to systematic investigation of the fauna until the collections of Quoy and Gaimard (1824–1826; 1830–1834). Hidalgo (1904– 1905) was the first to produce a catalog that included molluscs from Guam, but his emphasis was mostly on the Philippine Islands fauna. This catalog was followed by a series of unpublished lists produced by shell collectors and shell club members during the last several decades. Synoptic collections of molluscs from Guam and Micronesia were started by faculty of the University of Guam in the mid-1960s. These collections are housed in the Richard E. Dickinson Memorial Mollusc Collection at the University of Guam Marine Laboratory. -

Abstract. Colour preservation has been observed in shells and spines of five different invertebrate taxa from the Upper Jurassic of the Lusitanian Basin, Portugal. In this paper the colour patterns of these animals are detailed; moreover, the neritimorph gastropod „Neritina“ bicornis is placed in the new genus Fuersichella. Coloured bands in the shell of the bivalve Isognomon rugosus are documented for the first time. Newly discovered material provides additional information on the morphology and colouration of Coelastarte discus. -

Shells accumulated from the Indo-West Pacific samples comprise five genera and nine species of extant neritiliids, whereas there were none from the Atlantic. Four new genera and four new species are herewith described: Laddia lamellata, Micronerita pulchella, Teinostomops singularis and Siaesella fragilis; previously known species include Laddia traceyi comb. n., Pisulina adamsiana, Pisulina biplicata, Pisulina maxima and Pisulina tenuis. Of these nine species, seven have wide, largely overlapping distributions; species richness is highest in and around the Indonesian and Philippine region, as in countless cases of shallow-water fishes, corals, echinoderms, bivalves and other gastropods. Examination of protoconch morphology revealed five species with a fairly long, planktotrophic larval period and four species with non-planktotrophic early development. No clear relationship was found between distribution range and dispersal capability deduced from the developmental mode, whereas the non-planktotrophs had higher levels of geographic differentiation in shell morphology. -

Earliest Jurassic patellogastropod, vetigastropod, and neritimorph gastropods from Luxembourg with considerations on the Triassic–Jurassic faunal turnover STEFANO MONARI, MARA VALENTINI, and MARIA ALESSANDRA CONTI Monari, S., Valentini, M., and Conti, M.A. 2011. Earliest Jurassic patellogastropod, vetigastropod, and neritimorph gas− tropods from Luxembourg with considerations on the Triassic–Jurassic faunal turnover. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 56 (2): 349–384. The Hettangian to earliest Sinemurian Vetigastropoda, Patellogastropoda, and Neritimorpha housed in the National Mu− seum of Natural History of Luxembourg are studied. Most of the species comes from the Luxembourg Sandstone Forma− tion. This deposit formed along the southern margin of the London−Brabant−Ardennes Landmass, in a region that during the earliest Jurassic constituted a seaway connecting the Paris Basin with the epicontinental seas of the Netherlands and northern Germany. The systematic analysis revealed high diversity of the studied fauna; we identified twenty−two species, eleven genera, nine families, and six superfamilies. A new genus, Meiersia gen. nov., and three new species, Anodomaria schroederi sp. nov., Meiersia disarmata sp. nov., and Spirocirrus weisi sp. nov. are described. The fauna is dominated by pleurotomarioideans representing the genera Ptychomphalus, Pleurotomaria,andTrochotoma, and by the patellogastropod genus Scurriopsis both in number of species and specimens. The neritimorph genus Neridomus is also well represented. Among the accessory taxa, Anodomaria and Spirocirrus first appeared in the Late Hettangian of the Luxembourg area. Most of these genera show a species radiation in the Early Jurassic and are distributed over the western European epicontinental shelf, probably favoured by an east to west marine transgression which influenced wide areas from the basins of the northern Germany to the Paris Basin through the Luxembourg seaway. -

Molluscs from the Early Frasnian Goniatite Level at Kostomłoty in the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 51 (4): 707–718. The unique goniatite−rich pyritic level, 1.6 m thick, exposed at Kostomłoty (Holy Cross Mountains, central Poland) represents a distinct, local biotic event in the Early Frasnian interval corresponding to the inception of a major geo− chemical (carbon cycling) perturbation in the stagnant deep−water and oxygen−deficient Kostomłoty basin. The taxo− nomic and palaeoecologic characteristics of molluscan fossil associations from the Goniatite Level are presented. Most of the goniatitids and orthoconic nautiloids from the studied fossil assemblages are juvenile conchs or protoconchs, or incomplete phragmocones and represent the genera Acanthoclymenia and Linguatornoceras, the former being pre− dominant, and a single adult specimen probably of the genus Koenenites. In contrast, gastropods and bivalves are gen− erally well preserved and identifiable to species level. Two new species are described: a gastropod Palaeozygopleura (Bohemozyga) pyritica sp. nov. and a bivalve Glyptohallicardia multicostata sp. nov. These studied molluscs and also amphiporoids are allochthonous elements which must have been transported into the deeper settings during sea−level rise and flooding of fringing reefs (Timan Event) and/or storm events, and there were mixed with pelagic cephalopods. Probably, a sea−level rise even led to flooding of nearby areas, and thus to introduction of pelagic material (juvenile cephalopods) into reefal settings, and then back to the deeper water again by the quasi−estuarine circulation of water masses.
