North American Home of International Racing www.AmWestEntertainment.com More Sophomores... If trends are to be trusted, Pascal Treyve and Jean- Pierre Gauvin=s Saonois (Fr) (Chichicastenango {Fr}) should be favorite, as he has charted the proven path of G1 and G2 with an aplomb that belies his humble background. In the June 3 Chantilly Classic, the diminutive bay was best equipped to handle the rough-house environment, and again in his Sept. 16 course-and-distance prep he showed an ability to nip between narrow gaps. Fifteen of the last 18 winners were 3-year-olds, and another sophomore with less obvious claims, but who could feature, is Godolphin=s Masterstroke (Monsun {Ger}), who emerged late on this scene when winning the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville over 1 9/16 miles Aug. 26. Andre Fabre, who also saddles the Rothschild Family=s triple Group 1 scorer Meandre (Fr) (Slickly {Fr}), has a record seven renewals in the bag already, and six were from the younger brigade. Godolphin=s Racing Manager Simon Crisford commented, AMasterstroke has enjoyed a good preparation and soft ground will suit him well--the softer the better for him. He is an improving 3-year-old colt who has progressed very well throughout the season. He has been extremely consistent, and we hope that he can continue to go forward. Masterstroke is drawn in stall 17, which is not great, but he is in sparkling form.@ Sea Change... Workforce gave Sir Michael Stoute a belated first victory in this race two years ago and a fourth for Khalid Abdullah as that owner-breeder creeps ever closer to the record of six set by Marcel Boussac. They combine this year with Sea Moon (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}), who remains unexposed and lightly raced, and who showed when recording an impressive success in last year=s G2 Great Voltigeur S. that he relishes ease in the ground. Second to St Nicholas Abbey on a surface that was too quick at Downs, the homebred looked to be coming of age when running away with the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot June 23 before failing to get involved when fifth in the King George. Jockey Ryan Moore said on his betfair blog, ALongchamp is clay-based, and when it rains there, it can get very testing, and that would be a concern for Camelot supporters, as he wasn=t overly impressive in the Irish Derby. The draw is an obvious negative for Sea Moon, but if it remains soft that is an obvious positive. He goes on any ground, but is most effective with plenty of cut. Very impressive in the Hardwicke, the race didn't unfold the way I would have liked for us in the King George last time, and I had to come from too far back. He has to improve to win this if the principals run to their best, and that draw has to dampen the enthusiasm as well. But he is not a horse to dismiss lightly.@ Cont. p5 P TDN HEADLINE NEWS • 10/7/12 • PAGE 5 of 25 • thoroughbreddailynews.com

Ballydoyle Contingent (cont. from p1) O=Brien also has St Nicholas Abbey (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) to fall back on should Camelot fail to make the expected impact against his elders, and that triple Group 1 scorer has much to commend him. Prominently ridden when fifth here 12 months ago, the 5-year-old has since won the GI Breeders= Cup Turf, a second renewal of the G1 Coronation Cup and finished placed in a raft of top events including the Mar. 31 G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, July 21 G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S., Aug. 22 G1 Juddmonte International and Sept. 8 G1 Irish Champion S. By a twist of fate, none of those who finished in front of him in those races re- oppose here so he brings leading formlines to the table. AHis preparation has gone brilliantly all year, even though he hasn=t been winning,@ the Ballydoyle conditioner added. AWe think he=ll love going back to a mile and a half, and Joseph has been looking forward to this race since he rode him in it last year. Everything has gone well, and nobody knows him better. We have a couple of horses to bowl along and there is a Japanese pacemaker in there as well, so hopefully it will be a nice, evenly run race, and everybody gets a fair shot at it.@ The Bridesmaid Returns... Second last year when the fillies dominated, His Highness The Aga Khan=s Shareta (Ire) (Sinndar {Ire}) is back again without the weight-for-age concession, but has improved from three to four. After outbattling The Fugue (GB) (Dansili {GB}) in the Aug. 23 G1 Yorkshire Oaks, she produced the most impressive of the three Arc trial performances when adding the G1 to her tally over this track and trip last time Sept. 16.
