The economic shock can hit countries before the health shock, through income effects, and persist after the health crisis is over… Countries around the world have put in motion a broad set of measures to handle COVID-19 on several fronts….. “While not all schools are closed around the world, many are, and simulations using the COVID-19-adjusted HDI project a steep decline in human development worldwide in 2020, led by a massive setback in effective education because of school closures affecting almost 9 in 10 students and deep recessions in most economies (including a 4 percent drop in GNI per capita worldwide). The decline in the index –reflecting the narrowing of capabilities-- would be equivalent to erasing all the progress in human development of the past six years.” Source: http://hdr.undp.org/en/hdp-covid Area of focus: Network infrastructure and Services Key outputs IOT, AI, 5G, Big Data, High-Speed • Roadmaps and Masterplans Satellite • Case studies • Forums Spectrum Management, • Technical assistance trainings Broadband networks, • Projects and Partnerships Connectivity, Analytics, • Specialized Tools (SMS4DC) Platforms • Tool Kits IPv6, Internet, IXP Conformity & Interoperability Area of focus: Emergency Telecommunications National Emergency Workshops and Emergency Telecommunication capacity building Response Plans Papua New Guinea Global meeting Samoa (GET) In the form of Solomon satellite Islands phones and BGANs Vanuatu Regional and national trainings Afghanistan Area of focus: Digital Applications and Services E-agriculture Projects National strategies Case studies Solutions support Digital finance Forums Trainings Projects and Partnerships m-health Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, Fiji, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vanuatu Digital government and smart sustainable cities Whole-of-government approach for digital development National Vision and SDG implementation plan Smart city Digital agriculture policy / Amending strategy / plan previous legislations / regulations Other sectoral Digital health policy/ Whole of policy/ strategy / plan strategy / plan New legislations Government / regulations (National) Policy / Strategy / Plan Digital Smart village Digital financial Customized SDG education inclusion policy/ National policy/ strategy / plan planning Transposition strategy / plan (sustainable, prioritized, resilient) Smart Islands Enterprise architecture City / village / International level National level Islands level Area of focus: Digital Applications and Services- Examples Smart Village GIGA ▪ Multi-stakeholder, cross sectoral initiative ▪ Launched in 2019 ▪ Cost-effective solution accelerate the implementation of the SDG ▪ The goal is to provide connectivity to every school in the world. in remote areas through an integrated development and ▪ The lack of access to the Internet means exclusion, marked by the technology platform model. lack of access to the wealth of information available online, fewer ▪ Aim to increase the efficiency, security and effectiveness of resources to learn and to grow, and limited opportunities for the public services while reducing their cost, promoting transparency most vulnerable children and youth to fulfill their potential. and good governance, enhancing traceability of transactions, ▪ Closing the digital divide requires global cooperation, leadership, and data exchanges, among others. and innovation in finance and technology.
