Einen Ruf, den er sich spätestens seit seinem Durchbruch- Solo-Album „Wakin on a Pretty Daze“ redlich verdient hat. Einige der bekanntesten Musiker outen sich als ergebene Fans, zum Beispiel Ex- Sonic-Youth-Frontfrau Kim Gordon, die den euphorischen Info-Text zum jüngsten Album „B’lieve Me I m Going Down...“ schlicht mit den Worten „I love this record!“ beendete. Diese akustische Reise durch Amerika, von Ost- zur Westküste und durch die Geschichte des Landes von Woody Guthrie zu Dinosaur Jr, ist ein sehr erwachsenes, authentisches Werk. Kurt Vile schafft immer weiter an seinem eigenen musikalischen Mythos. In diesen schnellen digitalen Zeiten, in denen alles möglich ist, sorgt er mit seinem fokussierten, klaren und aufrichtigen Rock für frischen Wind. Zuletzt brachte der Mitbegründer von The War On Drugs im Oktober zusammen mit der Australierin Courtney Barnett das fantastische Kollaborationsalbum „Lotta Sea Lice“ heraus, ein akustisches Kammerspiel irgendwo zwischen Country und Grunge, zwischen Hole und Velvet Underground. Jetzt arbeitet Kurt Vile wieder mit den Violators zusammen an neuen Songs für das Jahr 2018, und am 12. Oktober kommt Kurt Vile mit seiner Stammband nach Hamburg ins Gruenspan. 2013-07-03 13:30 CEST Kurt Vile & The Violators (US) till Debaser Medis 7/12 Från en monumental drogdimma som skulle täcka Grand Canyon and then some stiger Kurt Vile ner och bjuder på en drucken, sprucken men ack så vacker sommarbris. En bris som i ett kollektivt töcken får oss att långsamt nicka våra huvuden i takt med orden som letar sig knarrigt ut ur munnen. Kurt Vile är med allra största sannolikhet en av världens främsta låtskrivare just nu. Från den broderliga kärlekens stad, Philadelphia, har Vile knutit ihop en väv av ekon; vi hör en knastrig Tom Petty på ökenvandring till ingenstans. Bredvid går Bruce Springsteen på breda highways mot regnbågshimlen. Kompbandet The Violators i bakgrunden består av löst folk runt Viles andra band The War On Drugs, vilka hänger ihop som ett snett Crazy Horse. Kurt Vile har mycket på sitt samvete och allt är gott. Han retar, lockar, petar, triggar och vidgar sinnet bortom sans och balans. På sina obskyra självsläpp från många år tillbaka är kaoset komplett men det behandlas med sidenhandskar och varje sekund av vitt brus harmoniserar väl med ljudet från en gitarr som inte kostat mer än fem dollar. Lofikretsar runt trendiga Brooklynbolaget Woodsist hittade sin Messias redan på debutplattan "Constant Hitmaker" vilket fick legendariska Matador att snabbt plocka upp denne unge gitarrfantom (killen skulle kunna vara turnékamraten J Mascis geniala lillebror) med gudabenådade melodier. Uppföljaren "Childish Prodigy" visade upp en exceptionell talang på väg i överljushastighet mot höjder endast amerikas klassiska låtskrivarstjärnor når och fick alla tiders fröken cool, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon att erkänna sin guilty pleasure :- "Listening to Kurt Vile's latest cd "Childish Prodigy".
