Pop Music Ahoy! TIGTII vA. II : None More Black Packet by Kevin Clair and Jack Rousseau of Carleton University Theme: Pop Music Tossups 1. Hailing from Forest Hills, Queens, they recorded their fIrst album for $6,000 in 1976. Like many u.s. bands of their ilk, they were much bigger in Britain, influencing the two bands with whom they would come to be identifIed as the forefathers of a new brand of rock music. The fIrst track on their self-titled album, "Blitzkrieg Bop," is inexplicably on the Chicago Bulls Greatest Hits album, and other hits from this ·group include "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" and "I Wanna Be Sedated." FTP, identify this group who lost two founding members, Joey and Dee Dee, in recent years. A: The Ramones 2. Two of the founding members went on to form the Krautrock band Neu!, and one popular story tells that the band's frequent long breaks from releasing an album are due to another founding member's love affair with cycling. The co"er of their 1978 album The Man Machine recalls Soviet propaganda posters, and the album itself contains the unlikely dance-craze single "The Robots." Prior to their fascination with technological themes, the group concentrated on traveling, with two consecutive albums devoted to cars and trains, respectively. FTP, name this Gertnan group responsible, in part, for almost all pop music today, whose most well-known albums are Autobahn and Trans-Europe Express. A: Kraftwerk ( 3. Their front man featured prominently on CNN after the Rodney King beatings, and their "minister of propaganda" was kicked out of the group after stating that Jews caused "the majority of the wickedness that goes on across the globe." That remark overshadowed, for a time, the fact that this group dominated hip-hop during the late 1980s, injecting a political message into a genre that had largely been dominated by party music and gangster posturing.

  • What Men Say About Body Image
A New You: Health for Every Body What Men Say About Body Image Wellness In the Rockies (WIN the Rockies) is a community-based research, intervention and outreach project that seeks to improve people’s health. The philosophy of the project states that people have responsibility for their own health, but communities have responsibility for helping create environments that foster good health and provide healthy options. The qualitative research phase of the project included the collection of narratives or life stories from 103 adult men and women. The research team conducted 56 one-on-one interviews and six focus groups. The purpose in gathering these narratives was to elicit experiences that illustrate the challenges people have faced, the successes they have experienced, and the insights they have gained related to physical activity, food and eating and body image. The selected body image quotes are from men. The quotes can be used to promote the A New You: Health for Every Body program to adult males and/or to spark class discussions. For more information, see “Reaching Adult Males” in the Getting Started section. Selected Quotes on Body Image Dissatisfaction “I think all of us have a kind of an ideal of what we think that perfect body should look like, and we can mirror that on what we currently look like and feel bad about it. I think that in every case, you feel bad about it. I don’t think anybody believes they look like what they should.” Male in his 50's “I feel more conscious . today than I did ten years ago.

CHRISTMAN has been approved for the Department of English and the College of Arts and Sciences by Eric LeMay Assistant Professor of English Robert Frank Dean, College of Arts and Sciences 3 ABSTRACT CHRISTMAN, ELIZABETH E.W., M.A., May 2013, English Growing Up & Other Important Mistakes Director of Thesis: Eric LeMay This thesis is a collection of creative work. As the title implies, the collected personal essays all deal with issues having to do with my personal growth. The problem they address is the idea of personality, and how we go about acquiring one. My argument, in this thesis, is that our personality is the result of negative experiences throughout life. The negative (referring to anything traumatic, embarrassing, scarring, etc.) leaves an impression on us, and through a psychological reinforcement, teaches us to avoid such situations and directly affects the outcome of our adult personas. Growing Up & Other Mistakes is a series of essays that document my own personal set of "negative experiences," all of which constructed my current personality. In them, I attempt to outline my struggle and the resulting attitude. 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS Page Abstract ............................................................................................................................... 3 Introduction ......................................................................................................................... 5 Foreigners, Invisible Toddlers, & The Social Pitfalls of Tuna Salad ..............................

VOICES OF CHANGECHANGE THE POWER OF WOMEN hroughout history, women T have worked tirelessly—often behind the scenes—for the peace and safety of their families and their communities. Today women are taking leading roles in the quest for peaceful solutions to problems as well as equal rights.
