Canton, Cardiff 2 The name (from "St. Canna's Town") refers to the 6th century female saint after whom Pontcanna is also named. Canton, also known as Treganna (tref town + Saint Canna), was a 13th century manor in Llandaff. It became part of Victorian era Cardiff in 1875 [1] . History Middle Ages Canton, or Treganna in the Welsh language, was formed around a 13th century Manor in Cardiff and assumed lands from nearby Llandaff and Leckwith parishes under the stewardship of an Earl (or Baron) de Kanetune, although today the manor comes under the jurisdiction of the Manor of Llandaff. It is believed that Canton is named after St Canna, the holy matron in the Celtic age of Saints, and Canna herself is reputed to have been a relative of King Arthur In 1215 a parishioner called Lucia de Kanetune is recorded as occupying a field ‘near the Earl's wall’.

Sir Mansel has commenced with his return to the organisation and given his commitment to a range of organisations/reviews, such as the Parliamentary Review he will not return fully into his role under the until 1 April 2017. This report focuses on the engagements/activities of Professor Simon Smail as the Acting Chair. Other activities performed by Sir Mansel are also shown which he has undertaken as part of a phased return to the role of Chair (see Appendix 1). Professor Simon Smail will step down as Acting Chair on the 1 April 2017 when Sir Mansel will assume the full range of roles and responsibilities.

    Implementing the Wales Tobacco Control Action Plan: new research & best practice Report by the Bevan Foundation of a seminar held on July 2012, All Nations Centre, Cardiff Funded by Pfizer Implementing the Wales TCAP: seminar report Introduction The Welsh Government’s Tobacco Control Action Plan aims to reduce the prevalence of smoking amongst the Welsh population to 16% of the adult population by 2020. This target is extremely challenging and achieving it requires concerted action by everyone with a role in tobacco control. The Bevan Foundation is an influential, independent think tank which makes Wales a fairer place through research, conferences and events. The Foundation is concerned that smoking is a major factor in inequality in health between different socio- economic groups, and is anxious that the very high smoking prevalence amongst low-income groups, pregnant women and others are recognised and specifically addressed. The Bevan Foundation is pleased to have worked with Pfizer Ltd to investigate the question of smoking cessation amongst lower socio-economic groups in Wales. As part of that programme of work the Bevan Foundation worked with Pfizer Ltd to organise a seminar in July 2012 to look at good practice in reaching disadvantaged groups of smokers. The programme included examples from Wales and England, which provided a unique insight into the range of different, effective interventions that can be made. The response of delegates was extremely positive. In order to reach as wide an audience as possible, we have therefore produced this brief summary of the seminar. A copy of the seminar programme is in Annex 1 and biographies of the speakers are at Annex 2.

    List of Relevant Ministerial Private Interests Welsh Government Published March 2021 INTRODUCTION Ministerial Code Under the terms of the Ministerial Code, Ministers must ensure that no conflict arises, or could reasonably be perceived to arise, between their Ministerial position and their private interests, financial or otherwise. On appointment to each new office and for each new subsequent financial year, Ministers must provide the Permanent Secretary with a full list in writing of all interests which might be thought to give rise to a conflict. Individual declarations, and a note of any action taken in respect of individual interests, are then passed to the Permanent Secretary to provide advice on any further action as appropriate. The List being published today records the position at the end of this process. Scope of the List The published list contains relevant ministerial interests current at the date of publication. It also includes any relevant Member of the Senedd declarations. Where a Minister has disposed of a relevant interest, or where they did so before taking up Ministerial office, it is not included in the List. The List sets out interests currently held by Ministers, or their close family members, which might reasonably be perceived to be directly relevant to a Minister’s ministerial responsibilities. It also provides details of charities where a Minister is a trustee or patron. In addition, Ministers may have other associations with charities or non-public organisations, for example, as constituency Member of the Senedd. Such associations may be historic, lapsed or the Minister may not be actively involved. The published list is not an account of all the interests or financial arrangements held by a Minister or members of their close family.

To appoint Local Authority School Governors. Background 2. Section 19 of the Education Act 2002 creates the general ability for the Local Authority to appoint governors to the governing bodies of maintained schools, with further detail contained in the Government of Maintained Schools (Wales) Regulations 2005. When Local Authority school governor vacancies arise, either by appointees reaching the end of their term of office or resigning, it is the statutory duty of the Council to fill the vacancies as soon as possible. 3. The Local Authority Governor Panel to oversee this process was constituted at the Annual Council in May 2015 and held its first termly meeting in September 2015. Issues 4. The Local Authority Governor Panel met on 10 June 2019 to consider new applications to current and future vacancies up 30 September 2019. The recommendations of the panel are contained in Appendix 1 to this report. Reasons for Recommendations 5. To ensure that the Council fulfils its statutory functions in respect of the appointment of local authority governors for maintained schools. Legal Implications 6. As noted in paragraph 2 of the report, the Council is required, pursuant to the Education Act 2002, section 19 and regulations made there under, to appoint local authority governors to the governing bodies of maintained schools, in accordance with those statutory provisions. 1 7.
