'EVERY CHRISTMAS HAS a STORY' Cast Bios LORI ‘EVERY CHRISTMAS HAS A STORY’ Cast Bios LORI LOUGHLIN (Kate) – Best recognized for her role as Rebecca Donaldson (“Aunt Becky”) on the long-running hit comedy series “Full House,” Lori Loughlin added another iconic series to her resume: The CW’s “90210.” In it, she played the mother of two teenagers who struggle with their family’s move from the normalcy of Kansas to the fast lane of Beverly Hills. Her film projects include the 2009 comedy feature “Old Dogs,” in which Loughlin starred opposite Robin Williams and John Travolta, playing the latter’s love interest. Another recent feature film of Loughlin’s was “Moondance Alexander,” in which she portrayed an eccentric mother whose daughter finds a pony and is determined to win the Bow Valley Classic. Loughlin currently stars in the hit Hallmark Channel Original Primetime Series, “When Calls the Heart,” and has revived her role of Aunt Becky on Netflix’s “Fuller House,” which will release its second season in early 2017. Loughlin has also starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movies “Meet My Mom” and “Northpole: Open for Christmas,” in addition to the popular “Garage Sale Mystery” franchise on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Born and raised in Hauppauge, Long Island, Loughlin got her start in show business at a young age. She was cast in the daytime drama “The Edge of Night,” for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Young Actress in a Daytime Series. In 1985, Loughlin was cast in the feature film “Secret Admirer,” a romantic comedy co-starring C. Thomas Howell and Kelly Preston. Loughlin also starred opposite Treat Williams in “Critical Mass,” in the beach movie spoof “Back to the Beach,” in “Rad,” a film about BMX racing, and in “Amityville 3-D,” the third installment of the “Amityville” horror franchise. In addition to “Full House,” Loughlin was a regular on “Hudson Street,” a comedy starring Tony Danza. She was also the star and producer of The WB’s family drama “Summerland.” Other television roles have included an after-school special entitled “No Means No,” for which she received an Emmy® nomination for Best Actress. Loughlin also worked with Jim Carrey in the TV movie “Doing Time on Maple Drive” and starred in “In the Line of Duty: Blaze of Glory.” She has made repeat performances in a number of series, including “The Drew Carey Show” and “Spin City,” and guest-starred in such series as “Seinfeld,” “Suddenly Susan,” “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Birds of Prey.” Loughlin resides in Los Angeles with her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, and their three children. (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL – ‘EVERY CHRISTMAS HAS A STORY’ – CAST BIOS/Page 2 COLIN FERGUSON (Jake) – Canadian actor, director and producer Colin Ferguson is best known for his starring turn as Sheriff Jack Carter on Syfy’s “Eureka.” He has appeared in over three dozen television series and films, including the American remake of the British hit sitcom “Coupling,” Universal Pictures’ 2007 film “Because I Said So” opposite Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, Syfy’s “Haven,” TNT’s “Major Crimes,” The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” and, most recently, “Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove.” Born and raised in Montreal, Ferguson got his start as a member of the Montreal improv group “On the Spot.” Although he is most recognized for his starring role in “Eureka” from 2006 to 2012, his many television credits include the mini-series “Armistead Maupin’s More Tales of the City,” TV movies “Inside the Osmonds,” “Daydream Believers: The Monkees’ Story,” “Americana” and “Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber,” a lead role in the TV series “Then Came You” and guest-starring roles on “Becker,” “Titus,” “The Outer Limits,” “Crossing Jordan,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “My Boys, “CSI: Miami,” “Happily Divorced” and “Major Crimes,” to name a few. In addition, he starred in the feature film “The Opposite of Sex,” alongside Christina Ricci, Martin Donovan and Lisa Kudrow. In 2011, Ferguson was a guest presenter for sci-fi news show “Hydraspace.” He also served as producer and director on nearly a dozen episodes of “Eureka” during its six season run. In January 2014, Ferguson became the latest actor to portray the iconic “Maytag Man,” starring in the appliance brand’s comedic commercials. WILLIE AAMES (Vernon) – Known throughout the world for his role as Tommy Bradford on long-running hit series “Eight Is Enough” and as best pal Buddy Lembeck on “Charles in Charge,” Hallmark Channel viewers recently got to see Aames starring in “Dater’s Handbook” and “Harvest Moon,” following his 5-year hiatus from acting. During that time, Aames was cruise director for Oceania, circling the globe and visiting more than 125 countries in the process. Aames began his career as a child actor, appearing in episodes of popular series such as “The Odd Couple,” “Cannon,” “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father,” “The Waltons” and “Adam-12,” among others. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. Research Article The effect of increased Glut4 protein expression in muscle and fat on the whole body glucose metabolism has been evaluated by the euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique in conscious mice. Fed and fasting plasma glucose concentrations were 172 +/- 7 and 78 +/- 7 mg/dl, respectively, in transgenic mice, and were significantly lower than that of nontransgenic littermates (208 +/- 5 mg/dl in fed; 102 +/- 5 mg/dl in fasting state). Plasma lactate concentrations were higher in transgenic mice, (6.5 +/- 0.7 mM in the fed and 5.8 +/- 1.0 mM in fasting state) compared with that of non- transgenic littermates (4.7 +/- 0.3 mM in the fed and 4.2 +/- 0.5 mM in fasting state). In the fed state, the rate of whole body glucose disposal was 70% higher in transgenic mice in the basal state, 81 and 54% higher during submaximal and maximal insulin stimulation. In the fasting state, insulin-stimulated whole body glucose disposal was also higher in the transgenic mice. Hepatic glucose production after an overnight fast was 24.8 +/- 0.7 mg/kg per min in transgenic mice, and 25.4 +/- 2.7 mg/kg per min in nontransgenic mice. Our data demonstrate that overexpression of Glut4 protein in muscle increases basal as well as insulin-stimulated whole body glucose disposal.

We seem to be prone to creating myths; stories about ourselves, our pasts and our world that attempt to explain how we got here and how we should behave. We hear them so often that we come to believe they are true. Sometimes they are helpful and enable us to act more like our heroes, but many times they are not. Often our myths directly contradict our immediate knowledge and experience. Yet we just as often take actions based on those myths despite all evidence to the contrary. Doctors are not only the creators of myths but also the unwitting believers in unchallenged myths that guide our everyday practice of medicine. In the past few years a movement called Evidence-Based Medicine has arisen to try to combat these myths or what is known as standard practice. But believe it or not, not all physicians believe that evidence is the best basis for medicine! This talk will address many of the most common myths in medical practice today. Beliefs regarding aging, diet, weight loss, exercise, disease prevention, healing, depression and other mental states, pregnancy and even the common cold will be examined as to their origin, why we hold onto them so closely, and what the evidence is that either supports or more commonly refutes them. An actress who identifies herself as Jane Doe has sued the Internet Movie Database Web site, and its parent company, Amazon, for revealing her actual age. I’m not making that up. Here’s the actual complaint, which was filed in a federal court in Seattle. In case you haven’t used it, IMDB is a Web site that has detailed information on any movie ever made. I personally love it. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve watched a movie on TV and wondered who the actor was in some small role, and where I’d seen him before. IMDB has all that information. But I digress. According to the complaint, Jane Doe is of Asian descent, and her given name is difficult for Americans to spell and pronounce. She has for that reason used a stage name throughout her career. She is also very careful not to provide personal information, including her true age. According to the complaint, “[i]n the entertainment industry, youth is king. If one is perceived to be “over-the-hill” i.e., approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as plaintiff, to get work.” IMDB also offers a service called IMDbPro, which offers “industry insider” information to paying customers. Ms. Doe signed up for the service and in so doing, provided her name, birth date and other personal information.

    ‘GARAGE SALE MYSTERY: THE WEDDING DRESS’ CAST BIOS LORI LOUGHLIN (Jennifer Shannon) – Best recognized for her role as Rebecca Donaldson on the long-running hit comedy series “Full House,” Lori Loughlin added another iconic series to her resume: The CW’s “90210.” In it, she played the mother of two teenagers who struggle with their family’s move from the normalcy of Kansas to the fast lane of Beverly Hills. Her film projects include the 2009 comedy feature “Old Dogs,” in which Loughlin starred opposite Robin Williams and John Travolta, playing the latter’s love interest. Another recent feature film of Loughlin’s was “Moondance Alexander,” in which she portrayed an eccentric mother whose daughter finds a pony and is determined to win the Bow Valley Classic. Loughlin currently stars in the hit Hallmark Channel Original Primetime Series, “When Calls the Heart” and has starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movies “Meet My Mom,” “Garage Sale Mystery: All That Glitters,” and “Garage Sale Mystery: The Deadly Room.” Born and raised in Hauppauge, Long Island, Loughlin got her start in show business at a young age. She was cast in the daytime drama “The Edge of Night,” for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Young Actress in a Daytime Series. In 1985, Loughlin was cast in the feature film “Secret Admirer,” a romantic comedy co-starring C. Thomas Howell and Kelly Preston. Loughlin also starred opposite Treat Williams in “Critical Mass,” in the beach movie spoof “Back to the Beach,” in “Rad,” a film about BMX racing, and in “Amityville 3-D,” the third installment of the “Amityville” horror franchise.
