Il Suono del Silenzio (The Sound of Silence) This debut exhibition, by Jean Karl Izzo will consist of a series of works produced from ideas developed within the past four years. This exhibition is a clear explanation of the artist’s forte - his sense of space and creating art out of a vacuum. The artist, as creator, gives value to the void. The art exhibited, will consist of works on canvas, board and paper using paint and mixed media. A Christmas Exhibition Madeleine Gera’s forthcoming exhibition promises a selection of urban land and country scapes with a difference. There are selections of paintings about Maltese Festas such as “Good Friday procession” in spring and “St. Lawrence’s Feast, in the height of summer. Both themes are highlights in the Maltese Calendar of religious events; both are traditional and popular sights. There are a number of paintings where the protagonist is the season, greys for winter, and deep saturated tones depicting the summer light in Malta. Il Silenzio delle Cose Works by Prof. Silverio Paradiso. By means of this personal exhibition we invite you to rediscover the silence of things, a silence laden with “deafening” memories of past life and of beginnings. The themes proposed by the artist belong to the lives of each one of us, and introduce a context containing the suggestion to look at everyday things to discover that they surround a kaleidoscope of splinters of the soul. The portraits are the most clear witness and spur us to better understand ourselves and those around us. u Hall of the Italian Cultural Institute, St. George’s Square Valletta º11 December - 8 January, 7pm v All Buses ¤ 21221462

The Penis Monologues The play depicts men from all walks of life - gay to straight, single and married, sons to fathers - showing the common connection that all men have with each other. The play uses a blend of humour and pathos to deal with the issues of what being a man means today. This poignant and funny play reveals the often secretive differences men feel about themselves and their masculinity, as well as the one common thread that connects them all. George Mizzi will be directing a splendid group of actors which include Andy Fava, Jamie Camilleri, Marc Schembri and Paul Austin Stellini.

This drink is ideal on its own, particularly with a slice of orange. It also mixes excellently with a number of alcoholic drinks and cocktails. In 1984, due to evolving lifestyle trends and an increase in health awareness, a diet version was introduced and now forms an integral part of the Kinnie brand. Kinnie Zest was added to the portfolio in 2007 to target health-conscious, young adults who have an active interest in health and their wellbeing.

Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens Two gardens, facing the Grand Harbour in Valletta, both offering a panoramic view. The Upper Barrakka Gardens offer the best view since they’re more centered and at a much higher level. It was the gift of an eigh- teenth-century knight. The Anglican Garrison Church partly intrudes upon it. The garden is built on top of a demi- bastion. The Lower Barrakka Gardens are part of St Christopher’s Bastion and have a view of the harbour. At their center is a small Greek-style folly built in memory of Governor Sir Alexander Ball, who led the siege against the French in 1800 and subsequently became Britain’s first civil commissioner of Malta. The French during the 1798-1800 siege cultivated these gardens.

Argotti Botanical Gardens In 1805 the British governor appointed a Carmelite friar, Malta’s first professor of natural history. He assembled the plants in Floriana’s Mall and 50 years later they were moved to the site of the present Argotti Gardens, then the preserve of a deceased knight.

Buskett Gardens No more than 2kms from Dingli Cliffs, sitting under the watchful eye of Cardinal Grand Master de Verdalle’s summer retreat, are Buskett Gardens. Panoplies of foliage spread their shade over the valley floor, providing a welcome respite against the heat of summer. There are orange and cypress trees, irregular cacti, leguminous carobs, aromatic firs and the Judas tree, which foretells Easter with its pink blossom (this is said to be the tree from which Judas hung himself).

Hastings Gardens From the National Museum of Fine Arts, it is well worth taking a stroll through the nearby Hastings Gardens, named after a former Governor General, the Marquess of Hastings (1824-26).
