The Recertification Process

Most certifications are valid for 2 years from the exam date of the course which is usually the date of issue on your certification card. (Standard First Aid is the exception to this rule – it is valid for 3 years from date of issue as per WSIB criteria.) To remain current you must recertify your certification within the two year period. The process for recertification can differ from course to course so it is important to find out the process well in advance. Most rescue and first aid certifications have a one-day recertification opportunity for candidates to demonstrate the applicable performance criteria and physical standards. Instructional qualifications have either a professional development recertification process or a one-day recertification course. See below:

→ Lifesaving Swim & Lifesaving Instructors Acquire 3 professional development continuing education credits by participating in courses, clinics and training programs

→ Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Register and attend an in person recertification re-exam

For a detailed list of how to recertify your Lifesaving Society Instructor awards visit their website.
