Weekly Radio Broadcast Series Is Produced by the New York Philharmonic Distributed Worldwide by the WFMT Radio Network Available for Streaming for Limited Time

The New York Philharmonic announces the first broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week to feature performances from Jaap van Zweden’s inaugural season as Music Director. Highlights include the World Premiere of Conrad Tao’s Everything Must Go; Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, Leningrad; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7; and Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, featuring The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Matthias Goerne. The broadcasts will feature conversations with Jaap van Zweden and others. Additional broadcasts featuring Jaap van Zweden’s inaugural season will be announced at a later date. The award- winning national and international weekly radio series hosted by Alec Baldwin is currently in its 15th season.

The broadcasts featuring Jaap van Zweden and the New York Philharmonic to be released February–May 2019 will include: • February 6, 2019: World Premiere of Conrad Tao’s Everything Must Go and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 • February 20, 2019: Britten’s Violin Concerto, with Simone Lamsma, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, Leningrad • February 27, 2019: Songs by Schubert and R. Strauss performed by baritone Matthias Goerne, The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence; Webern’s arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Fuga (Ricercata) from Musical Offering, BWV 1079, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 (more)

The New York Philharmonic This Week airs locally in the New York metropolitan area on WQXR 105.9 FM, Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. (Check local listings.) Concerts are available for streaming online at nyphil.org for a minimum of 90 days following the broadcast. Alec Baldwin is the host, New York Philharmonic Associate Director of Media Production Mark Travis is the writer and director, Audio Director Lawrence Rock is the music producer, and Vice President, Audiences & Innovation, Vince Ford is the executive producer.

In 1922 the Philharmonic was one of the first symphony orchestras to broadcast a concert over the radio, and in 1930 it became the first American orchestra to broadcast regularly coast-to- coast. Since then, the Philharmonic has enjoyed an almost continuous presence on national radio. A media pioneer, the Philharmonic has shared its radio broadcasts with a worldwide audience through its website, nyphil.org, since 2002. The Philharmonic has made more than 2,000 recordings since 1917 and was the first major American orchestra to offer downloadable concerts, recorded live. The Philharmonic launched its partnership with Decca Gold, Universal Music Group’s newly established US classical music label, in February 2018.
