We welcome you in the spirit of our Zimbabwe brothers and sisters! Today’s concert reflects the heritage of faith and community of the Friends University Singing Quakers. Last year the world stopped as we all tried to navigate uncharted waters. This pandemic has challenged us spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially. Yet through it all, we are still here. This concert is designed to give hope and to encourage your heart and soul. Be not afraid during times of uncertainty; believe in God “even when He is silent.” Be not afraid of one another, but let us walk together in peace for “equality is in the air we breathe.” “I hear America singing” and it is a song of love, for “where charity and love are, God is there” (Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est). Following a long tradition of the Singing Quakers, the concert closes with the familiar hymn, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” in which the singer responds personally to the gift of divine love, which “demands my soul, my life, my all.” May you leave this concert knowing that we need each other, you are not alone, and we are in this together.
