    Calcio in Italia 1 Calcio in Italia La diffusione del calcio in Italia risale alla fine del XIX secolo ed è dovuta all'esperienza di alcuni appassionati che ebbero la possibilità di conoscere questo sport in Inghilterra, terra in cui il football aveva assunto i primi caratteri definiti, innanzitutto distinguendosi dal rugby. Edoardo Bosio e il calcio a Torino Lo Zantar, nato a Torino nel 1864, diplomato in ragioneria, commerciante, personaggio di spicco della Società Canottieri Armida, aveva cominciato a lavorare per una ditta britannica di prodotti tessili, che gli diede l'opportunità di un lungo soggiorno in Inghilterra, durante il quale ebbe l'occasione di frequentare alcuni ambienti calcistici di quel paese. Tornò a Torino nel 1887 con il ricordo dei verdi campi inglesi di football, con qualche pallone di cuoio (oggetto pressoché sconosciuto all'epoca in Italia) e, soprattutto, animato dalla volontà di diffondere la nuova disciplina sportiva: fu così che nello stesso 1887 nacque un nuovo gruppo sportivo, il Football & Cricket Club, che praticava il canottaggio d'estate e il football d'inverno[1] . Nel 1889, ancora a Torino, nacque un'altra compagine calcistica, la squadra dei Nobili, Edoardo Bosio nel 1899 così chiamata perché fondata da alcuni giovani esponenti dell’aristocrazia facenti capo al principe Luigi di Savoia, duca degli Abruzzi e al marchese Alfonso Ferrero di Ventimiglia[1] . Nel 1891 le due squadre si fusero dando vita all'Internazionale Football Club di Torino, una delle poche società che praticò fin dalle origini la sola specialità del calcio. Nella squadra militavano, fianco a fianco, nobili e lavoratori di una fabbrica che produceva articoli di ottica: le prime partite si giocavano in Piazza d'Armi, poi al Parco del Valentino e più tardi nel vecchio Stadium.
