The City of San Leandro is a city, founded in 1872, with a Mayor/Council-Manager form of government.

With a total General Fund budget of $75 million and 406 full-time employees, the City provides the full range of municipal services. The City works closely with local businesses and the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce to promote San Leandro as a world-class business location. The Assistant to the City Manager offers an exciting opportunity for professional development. The selected candidate will work closely with the public, staff, management, elected officials, and other agencies. The position will lead cross-departmental projects, conduct complex analyses, prepare and present reports in assorted forms, assist in budget analysis, and provide information to a wide range of audiences.

The position performs a variety of responsible, professional, administrative assignments; administers a wide variety of projects and programs both within the department and on an interdepartmental basis; assists department and/or division managers as needed and performs related work as required. The position provides work direction and project supervision over assigned technical, secretarial and clerical personnel and receives general direction from the Assistant City Manager.

The ideal candidate must work collaboratively and effectively with the highest levels of City government and varied audiences. S/he must be genuinely committed to develop cooperative partnerships with various stakeholders through exceptional ‘people’ and analytical skills. The ideal candidate must possess personal integrity, diplomacy and political astuteness, and have exceptional written and oral communication skills. Multilingual skills are highly desirable.

In addition, the ideal candidate possesses at least three years of professional experience in a public agency. The candidate is a graduate from an accredited college with an emphasis in public administration, business administration, political science or a closely-related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.

The salary for this outstanding career opportunity, based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, is $7,419.00 - $9,017.00 per month. San Leandro’s current benefit package includes:

• The City offers a generous contribution toward health and dental benefits • CalPERS enrollment in either the 2% @ 55 (Classic Employees) or the 2% @ 62 (New Employees) formula is dependent on the individual’s eligibility, as per AB 340 • Health Insurance: The City contracts through CalPERS with seven plans available. The City currently contributes a maximum of $1,730.86 toward eligible plans; Dental: PPO dental plan with a maximum City-paid contribution of $158 toward family coverage (negotiations are currently underway for employee groups) • Life Insurance: Life and AD&D, and long-term disability insurance with an option to purchase increased coverage; voluntary deferred compensation plans, vision care and short-term disability insurance are available • Eighty hours of incentive pay per calendar year • Holiday Leave: Twelve paid holidays, plus one floating holiday • Vacation Leave: Twelve days per calendar year • Sick Leave: Accrues four hours per pay period • Participation in Social Security and Medicare programs
