Free meals, that meet Federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children 18 years old and under at a variety of locations. Feel free to search and plan your dates! NOW-August 30—Family Bike Nights Come out and bike with your kids in a safe environment! Bring them to this great event featuring safe riding, a food court, bike safety clinic, and local bike vendors. NOW-September 29—Folding Paper: The Infinite Possibilities of Origami The art of folding paper, better known as Origami, is not only a sophisticated art form, but it inspires innovative concepts in math and design, and inventions in engineering, architecture, and technology. The first major exhibition to explore the rich tradition of paper folding in Japan and Europe, Folding Paper features approximately 140 works by more than 50 international artists. This art exhibition will be at the Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street, with a general admission of $10. The Zombie Walk is a large-scale performance art experience where citizens dress up as the undead and infiltrate the streets of midtown for fun, promotion and charity. TFO Productions has often been credited with hosting the world’s first Zombie Walk in 2001 and for starting what has become a worldwide phenomenon. Teams of two will solve riddles and complete challenges on their smart phones while biking or racing on foot throughout Sacramento. The top five finishing teams with the most points at the end of the competition will win beautiful jewelry and amazing prizes. Each team’s registration fee will benefit the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Admission per term is $50. Cooling Centers of Sacramento Cooling centers will be areas that are cool and air conditioned to allow people some rest and time for their body temperatures to cool down. Cooling Centers will be staffed by volunteers and City/County employees. Security will also be present. These cooling centers cannot accommodate pets. If the weather cools down, the centers may be discontinued until the next heat wave. Haagginwood Community Center: 3217 Marysville Blvd—Open Sunday through Thursday, 2-9 p.m. Meadowview Community Center: 2450 Meadowview Road—Open Sunday through Thursday, 2-9 p.m. Fruitridge Community Center: 4000 Fruitridge Road—Open Monday through Thursday, 2-9 p.m. Salvation Army: 1200 N B Street—Open 6 p.m.-6 a.m. for homeless visitors to get out of the heat.
