This does seem to rile some who would like to advertise their business in the magazine but are offered only the one-line trade listing which appears on page two. There is a rationale behind this decision. Most magazines have to raise advertising revenue to cover the printing costs, which is by far the biggest outgoing. It is a conundrum because including adverts creates revenue, but when more adverts are included, the costs of paper and printing increase ! It becomes a vicious circle. Idle Talk is uniquely placed and we are indeed very fortunate to have a benefactor in the Bible College who covers our printing costs. We are not going to jeopardize this gift by increasing the cost of production from extra advertising revenue beyond our limited requirements. Other magazines would love to be in our situation ! Based at the Oldcotes Sunday Market Site for home games and the summer months training, it attracts players from all of the surrounding villages as well as Worksop and Retford. There are currently 6 age groups looking to start the new season in September at under 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 years old with around 70 players in total. All of our teams are coached by fully FA qualified staff with up to date Safeguarding and Emergency First Aid certificates. We are on the look-out for new players, both boys and girls, particularly those who are currently aged 6, 7 or 8 years old. We generally train on a Wednesday evening at Oldcotes. Steve Bloomfield 01777 816637 [email protected] MATTERSEY THORPE TRA ANNUAL SEASIDE TRIP TO BRIDLINGTON SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST LEAVE MATTERSEY THORPE 9 O'CLOCK PICKING UP IN MATTERSEY ADULTS £10 CHILDREN GO FREE CONTACT ETHEL DAWSON 01777 817528 14 WINSTON GREEN 7 Ingredients 1 whole duck, ready for roasting salt Dressing Salad pan juices (from above) 1 large orange ½ large orange, zest and juice generous handful pea shoots 1 lemon, juice only splash red wine vinegar Preparation method 1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. 2. Place the duck on a roasting tin. Prick the skin all over. Carefully pour boiling water over it. Dry the duck and tin with kitchen paper and season well with salt. 3. Roast the duck in the tin (drained of its water) in the preheated oven for about 1½ hours, or until the skin is crisp and the meat falls away from the bone. (You may need to pour off some of the fat into a mug halfway through cooking. Set this aside for roasting potatoes.) Remove from the tin and strip the meat into bite-sized chunks. 4. Pour away some of the excess fat from the roasting tin and place on the hob over a medium heat. Add the dressing ingredients to the pan. 5. For the salad, peel and segment the orange. Mix with the pea shoots in a bowl. Mix the dressing ingredients together until they emulsify. Dress the salad then serve with the chunks of duck. 8 ‘MAKE A POPPY DAY’ You are invited to knit or crochet a poppy on TUESDAY 17 JULY 11am – 4pm in the church hall The poppies will be used in November to commemorate the local servicemen named on the War Memorial in All Saints’ Church. Please bring along any red/black wool and needles or hooks if you have any available and a picnic lunch if you wish. We Will Remember We need your help to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War later this year. If you can share any of your precious photographs or memorabilia for a short period we would like to display them in church among the poppies being knitted by the local ladies.     Summary of feedback from Mattersey Future Development Questionnaires Overall Of the 308 questionnaires that were delivered to the households in Mattersey, 55 were returned, giving a response rate for the village of 17.86%. 1. Open Market Housing Numbers of new houses Respondents were asked to indicate the future levels of growth they would like to see in their village. However, the most common answer given was no new housing . Types and size of new houses Respondents were asked to mark down which type of housing they believed the village needed in the future. The answer was multiple choice and people were not limited to only providing one answer.
